Anohni’s statement

And then, diagnosing the Oscars as one symptom of a broader institutional failure: “It is a system of social oppression and diminished opportunities for transpeople that has been employed by capitalism in the U.S. to crush our dreams and our collective spirit.”

So just being nominated for an Oscar is oppression then.

Hmm.

By the way, so you don’t have to I’ve listened to the song. And some other stuff from the same bloke. And sans trans there’s nothing special, not even much good. Light tenor with way too much vibrato. Meh. Neopolitan opera lovers would be rejecting it for not enough sforza.

Rather the point of all that castrati, counter tenor, stuff is to give the male richness and power of the voice to that upper register. Not happening here.

  1. But when it comes to this year’s Oscars, even nominees aren’t safe from being othered out of the ceremony.

“Othered out”? What does that mean?

the Academy neglected to invite Anohni to perform during the telecast

And? Does everyone get invited to perform and she was specifically excluded? Doubt it.

As a result, Anohni has declared that she will not be attending the ceremony.

    Catastrophe.

Is this meant to be a news report?

  2. “Capitalism sees transgendered people as an enemy to be crushed”

I thought they were seen as a niche market?

  3. What Chris Miller said.
Pterry got his names right unlike the complainer.
OT – I am now instructed that the single pronoun for a transgender person is “they”. Demanding that I use a plural pronoun for a single individual is oppression IMHO. Can I start a protest movement?

  4. Don’t get me started on splitting infinitives.
Or starting a sentence with a preposition.

    Bastards.

  5. Mercury Prize-winning musician Anohni (née Antony Hegarty) has been recognized for her song “Manta Ray,” the J. Ralph duet she was commissioned to co-write and perform for the climate crisis documentary Racing Extinction.

This is exquisite. Like a Faberge egg made of intricately bejewelled arsegobblery and failure.

A perfect storm of palsied, pansified poz.

At least we need no longer feel inferior to late-era Romans when it comes to civilisation-eating decadence.

  6. I always thought that the name “Anthony and the Johnsons” was an oddly subtle red-pill for such a Left-wing outfit, given that Anthony Johnson was black, and the first man to legally own black and white slaves in North America.

  7. Jonathan – Thanks, I think?

Johnny – Mate, I said Celtic. Not Hearts. 🙂

Poz literally comes from “HIV positive”, but like all good internet slang it has mutated and evolved through usage. Basically refers to everything that is weaksauce, wanky, or just gay*.

    * Gay as in the South Park sense. As opposed to magnificently homosexual, like Milo Yiannopoulos (peace be apon his glorious hair). Or, to a lesser extent, Peter Tatchell.

So in this case: pretend woman makes song promoting pretend problem, is nominated for an award, uses the opportunity to pretend to be outraged about unrelated pretend issues.

    Poz.

  8. “So just being nominated for an Oscar is oppression then.”

Well, watching Oscar-nominated movies often feels like being oppressed.,
