I thought we were supposed to be against this sort of thing now?

I’ve seen more of Ann Hirsch than I have of possibly anybody else on the planet. To be specific, I watched her one-minute film of her vagina “singing” I Feel Pretty, which is brilliant and hilarious and joyful, and makes you feel sad and angry about all the other vaginas on the internet which are shaved, penetrated and exploited.

Art despite it being paid for, is not exploitation, is that it?

  1. Well,I knowagirl who’s reputed to be able to crack walnuts with hers. And she’ll exploit you for every cent you’ve got. But art? I think she charges extra for videoing.

  2. Singing vagina? Sorry, that’s derivative of a French arthouse movie I saw from the 70s about a talking vagina.

  3. On the other hand, if she’s queefing the tune, that would be a hell of a thing. But as its Poncy Guardian Contemporary Art Shit, I suspect it’s not.

  4. The Nutters are happy with nudity and the like so long as it isn’t (in their view) arousing to the male interest. They are fine with ugly, fine with de-sexualised, fine with downright revolting, which is the usual coruse chosen by conceptual artists.

They just hate it if it’s pandering to normal positive human emotions. Note how “penetration” is despised in the above quote.

  5. She smiles. “I’m sure that in five more years, everyone will be showing their vagina on the internet.”

    I’m sure they won’t.

    JuliaM – “I’m sure they won’t.”

Well I am pretty sure that half of us won’t. But perhaps that is trans-phobic and I should apologize.

On the other hand if a man filmed his penis standing upright and singing Rule Britannia, what sort of hate crime would it be?

  7. My first thought as usual before clicking was ‘Guardian’. But…a small voice muttered “possibly Telegraph”. That thought would have been literally unthinkable five years ago.

  8. Rage about vaginas exploited on the Internet.
Keep quiet and suppress information about actual vaginas exploited by Pakistani rape gangs.

    The Guardian.

    What a c*nt!

  10. Bloke in Costa Rica

I highly doubt it was her vagina, unless she was using a shotgun mic. I suspect it was actually her vulva singing. Which enables me to trot out my gag about The Vagina Monologues or, as I prefer to call it, Cunts Who Won’t Shut Up.

  11. Speaking of cvnts and artists, I see Tracey Emin has married a rock. She must want real hardcore filling.
