Well done to the Mail

A luxury Mediterranean winery that produces Sir Cliff Richard’s own brand of plonk has been put on the market – for more than £7.5million.
Quinta do Miradouro and neighbouring winery Adega do Cantor in Albufeira in Portugal’s Algarve are up for grabs after 15 years of producing the singer’s wine, Vida and Onda Nova.

Well overpriced for the area as a property. Maybe the business makes, money, dunno.

But of course it’s not on the Mediterranean at all: the coast here is on the Atlantic.

  1. Unlikely it makes money. Celebs don’t buy vineyards to make money but to show off their wealth.

Incidentally, a lot of the English Wine industry is running at a loss – people who made their money doing something else putting it into a vineyard.

  2. Mr Worstall,

Any comment on the Isabel Hardman “Totty” story in the news yesterday & today? Bloke treats woman as sex object, seems like a dog-bites-man story, hence the calls to metaphorically muzzle them all.

  3. Celebs rarely buy property as any thing other than a tax break.
One xmas we had one of Sir Cliff’s trees, I’m sure he would have forgiven us (and written off its full value)

  4. Well Lisbon had that earthquake in the C17th? Perhaps the Fail knows something we don’t?
No, more likely just another day at the Daily Fail…

  5. Bloke in Costa Rica

I’m trying to think what sort of conception one must have of European geography to see ‘Portugal’ and think ‘Mediterranean’. It’s not like those geographic anomalies that we were discussing the other day; this is quite literally like writing about Dorset’s North Sea coast.
