Interesting choice of image here

So, if you were picture editor, which image would you choose to illustrate this story?

A 31-year-old assistant commandant-rank trainee Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room at the paramilitary force’s training centre in Gurgaon.
Identified as Mohaib M Mullah, hailing from Belgaum in Karnataka, was found hanging at 4 am from the ceiling fan of hostel room number 201 at the training academy in Kadarpur, police said.

This one perhaps?

Accurate, to the point, why not?

Police said that the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.

  1. I wonder if their site is automatically pulling news from an agency and automatically choosing a picture based on key words.

When I was working in India the press and broadcasters really were anarchic and didn’t pull their punches, especially wit pictures and news reel. Definitely not for the squeamish as they thought nothing of showing bodies, bloodied and broken, after bomb blasts and traffic accidents.

Unless something’s changed that will have been a deliberate choice.

    …from the ceiling fan…

It makes the phrase ‘twisting in the wind’ kind of literal.

Isn’t there official guidelines on the reporting of suicide that specifically forbids this kind of thing? They are not supposed to report on the means of suicide, either too graphically or using pictures because of the Werther effect.

    Or am I remembering incorrectly?
