Serious accountants not interested in fantasies of not serious accountant

I have been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales for almost 34 years. You would not know it from much of what they say and write: I am always amused at how little attention they give to one of their noisier members who is actively working on issues about which they should be concerned. But, as a member I thought I would, at the prompting of a commentator on this blog, check out their press releases in advance of the London Corruption Summit to be held tomorrow.

There is not a word to be found: nothing.

….
Nothing post 2010. I also did other searches with no better results.

Given that so much of the criticism of tax havens on the corruption issue relates to the role of accountants why is that?

Surely the ICAEW should be taking a lead here and saying what it expects of its members in the public interest?

And if it is not, why not?

I have asked the ICAEW for comment.

It’s because they don’t give a shit about the voices in your head Ritchie.

    So close!

  2. The quality of the research from Tax Research UK is stunning. A Google search?

That will of course be the Google that Ritchie says doesn’t add value to the UK.

  3. I suspect the poor chap genuinely doesn’t understand how much of his peer group regards him.

    TMB nails it.

I suspect he knows exactly how his peer group regards him, and because he believes them to be Jewish, that was the original spur for him to develop New Nazism.

Occam’s razor says that there’s one explanation for both his nonsense about tax and his hatred of Jewish people, because it’s too much of a coincidence for one person to hold those views separately.

Just marvel at that colossal, poisonous ego. Just incredible.

  6. Have I missed something? Lord knows, I think Murphy is a prize tit, who if not challenged could be positively dangerous, but I’ve not noticed any special hatred towards any group or race (such as the Jews) apart from the rich and Tories?

  7. Probably just as well they haven’t ‘noticed’. My institute has professional standards which requires it’s members to be competent in the work they undertake. There are plenty of examples called out on here which indicate question marks over said competence.

  8. Based in my experience of working in a Big 4 accounting firm, the tax bods are well aware of him; they view him like the man arguing with himself in the park that everyone quietly ignores to avoid inflaming the poor man’s condition.

  9. There is nothing more pathetic than a middle-age man of no particular distinction striving for importance in the eyes of others.

It’s the impulse that’s given us both Richard Murphy and “Caitlyn” Jenner. I doubt Ritchie will ever part with his willie and don a dress, but here’s hoping…

  10. Would that more organisations had the good sense of the ICAEW! – but what I do find amusing is he has lambasted his fellow accountants for years over their role in facilitating what he perceives as ‘tax evasion’, and yet he is amazed that the fellow members aren’t grateful for the abuse he levels at them?

I sometimes muse as to whether he is just a giant pisstake along the lines of ‘The Office’ – one where the punchline has taken more than a decade to deliver – but sadly I think he lacks the intelligence for that! I don’t think I have ever seen a level of self regard appear in tandem with a complete lack of self awareness – I think future historians will look on Murphy’s output and marvel – ‘People actually believed and acted on this shit, really?’

  11. Ha ha ha ‘amused’ as in

‘I am always amused at how little attention they give to one of their noisier members’

    =

‘I am always seethingly, spittingly angry, trust me I’m like fucking Rumpelstiltskin with a hangover, going absofuckinglutely spare, at how little attention they give to one of their noisier members’

I know a few people in TV and I have long thought he’d make an excellent documentary. Spinal Tapesque, only for real – just wind him up and let him go.

Of course, his ego would never allow him to agree to be filmed.

  13. He shouldn’t complain, if they took him half seriously I imagine someone would have brought a professional misconduct complaint against him for some of the stuff he has written about auditors and accountants.
Though a while ago there was an article where he accused auditors of deceit where he hurriedly backed down that made me think he had been given a friendly warning.
You think if he was this bothered he would have stood for office and become involved in the numerous technical groups.

  14. Interested has it. He can’t believe that he isn’t centre stage at this anti-corruption gig. He isn’t amused at all – he’s raging that he’s on the sidelines and that no one gives a fuck about his spittle flecked rantings. Meltdown beckons.

  15. If The Dick wants to draw the attention of the ICAEW to himself, he may not be a member much longer.

We do have standards, old boy.

Every parent learns, eventually, that the best thing to do with a split brat that’s throwing a tantrum is to ignore them. Or give them a fat ear. Or both.

Murph must be close to fat ear treatment by now.

  17. John Miller, does the ICAEW have an equivalent of the FA charge of “bringing the game into disrepute”?

Worst thing you can do. Don’t make a martyr out of the bloke yelling incoherently in the park outside.
