Well, there is this

If Trump can persuade lesbian photographers in California to vote for him, I have a feeling Clinton might be in a spot of bother.

  1. But really, is there any evidence that Tories and Republicans are any worse about gays? I know there’s this established mindset that they hate them, but what are the facts?

The first sponsor of a bill to legalise homosexuality in the UK was a Conservative. It was then promoted and passed by Labour. Then Clause 28 had both parties voting in favour of it. Then Major lowered the age to 18. Then Blair to 16. Civil Partnerships under Blair. Gay marriage under Cameron.

You can’t really deduce much of a pattern from that. It’s much more about who is in power when public attitudes change.

  2. @the stigler

No, none at all, just a presumption founded on the principle that “lefties are the good guys, those guys aren’t lefties, therefore they must believe the opposite of the lefties”.

  3. I think there’s a difference in that most conservatives tolerate gays but most leftists demand you celebrate them.

I think he’ll get tons of supporters who wouldn’t normally want to be seen voting for a Republican. He has the sort of political X-factor the R’s haven’t seen since Reagan.

Iron Mike Tyson, Billy Joel and the incomparable Milo Yiannopoulos are all on board the Trump Train. Hillary’s gonna get run over.

  5. I keep telling people I know that Trump will piss this election against Hillary, and they won’t believe me. Yet all the evidence (of the voting and polling kind, not the ‘political analysis’ kind in the liberal media) points to the fact that Trump appeals to many sectors of the electorate that would never consider voting Republican normally. He’s got the white male vote sown up, natch, he’s getting far better African American support than any Republican candidate for decades, he’ll peel off some of the Sanders Democrat support because they hate Hillary’s Wall St links, he’ll get the blue collar Democrats who work in factories and like the idea of not sending their jobs to China. I suspect he’ll get far better female support than the polling figures let on, because women never go for the aggressive take control billionaire type do they…………Hillary is going to be left with middle aged menopausal women and thats about it.

In fact I’ll make a prediction – Hillary will get the Democratic nomination, its all sown up obviously. But once the head to head campaign gets under way the polls will move so disastrously against her that the Democrats will shit themselves, and use their connections in the DoJ to allow the FBI to indict her on the email charges. They’ll give them the nod that they won’t kick up if she gets charged. Everyone wins. The FBI ‘get their woman’ and make a statement that no-one is above the law (ha-ha), the Democrats get rid of a guaranteed loser, and replace her with Sanders (most likely) who will have a better chance against Trump, being a similar ‘outsider’ style of candidate. I do wonder if this is why Sanders is keeping in the race – he wants to nail down his position as candidate No 2 if the Democrats throw Hillary under the bus.

My lesbian photographer friend in California told me she’s not going to vote for Trump. So there!

  7. The Inimitable Steve

Jim – right? The converse of their consistent underestimation of Trump is their ongoing overestimate of the persuasive powers of Mrs Clinton.

It’s actually pretty astonishing how the political and media class has built Hillary up as if she’s some sort of political genius.

Have they ever, y’know… seen Hillary?

She’s just awful, awful. A nasty, croaking, dried-up, lying old bag of wrinkles with all the charm of finding blood in your poo. And Bill Clinton now looks like the portrait that hung in Dorian Gray’s attic. Ed Milliband was infinitely more likeable.

Trump is the only Republican who doesn’t treat her as if she’s ten feet tall. The only Republican presidential candidate who didn’t give prim little sermons or sperg on about “true conservatism” (whatever that is). And the only Republican with a sense of energy and optimism about his campaign.

And the talking heads are astounded that he’s winning.

  8. Most of the gays I know vote Conservative and few vote Lib Dem. Not a representative sample, of course.

  9. The Inimitable Steve

    Theophrastus – Sick perverts.

They should get back in the closet. It’s time we stopped tolerating people who are openly Lib Dems.

  10. “Hillary is going to be left with middle aged menopausal women and thats about it.”

    Plus the hipsters

  11. Does sexual preference matter? It did / does in contexts where is may be prejudicial to good order and discipline, specifically single sex institutions such as boarding schools, boardrooms, coal mines, oil rigs and the military. (So not politically sexual, then.)

Outside these circumstances, who gives a fuck if your lab technician or checkout worker is gay or not?

  12. ISteve

What I hate about the Libdems is how they want to rub our noses in it. Yuck!

  13. “Most of the gays I know vote Conservative and few vote Lib Dem. Not a representative sample, of course.”

Lots of single men, no families to support, probably decent incomes, no particular claims on State welfare. On economic grounds it is rational.

  14. TIS>

I’ve never actually met anyone willing to admit they’d support Hillary. It seems that regardless of what the talking heads tell them, ordinary people aren’t stupid enough to believe Hillary cares one whit about them.

  15. @Jim

If Hillary goes I say it’ll be Biden/Warren, but yes, they have to be looking for an exit strategy.

  16. @Theophrastus – I would say my gay friends are more right-wing than my average friend. My very best gay mate is even more right wing than me.

And there’s Milo of course. On the entirely scientific basis of reading the top 10 comments on youtube vids of the Dangerous Faggot I note that he has led many conservative straight men to cheerfully question their sexuality.

Mind you, thanks to TI Steve on another thread, I googled Andrea Dworkin to remind me what she looked like and my sexual orientation has yet to recover..

  17. I’ve never actually met anyone willing to admit they’d support Hillary.

That dingbat “artist” I reference in the thread at David Thompson’s did. Although she practically admitted she’d vote Democrat regardless of the candidate.

  18. It did / does in contexts where is may be prejudicial to good order and discipline, specifically single sex institutions such as boarding schools, boardrooms, coal mines, oil rigs and the military. (So not politically sexual, then.)

It doesn’t matter on oil rigs: I worked on a rig offshore Sakhalin with a gay fella, nobody cared. My friends in the military say they don’t care about it there, either. The whole “Eek, he might try and fuck me in the arse!” fear seems to belong to a different generation.

In the 1970s, I’d often be bothered by predatory gays in public lavatories. That is something that largely disappeared by 2000 with increased social tolerance and the emergence of the internet.

  20. “I’ve never actually met anyone willing to admit they’d support Hillary. ”

I would. I’m basically with PJ O’Rourke. Hilary is bad, but Trump is just bloody awful. I mean, the man’s talking about printing money now.

And Hilary is going to win, and my guess, by a handsome margin.

  21. The Inimitable Steve

bloke in france – yes, I don’t care if they get up to proportional representation in the privacy of their own bedrooms, but not in front of the children!

Chris – PJ O’Rourke is a living cautionary example of the long term effects of alcohol on the brain. Sad! Though maybe in addition to Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome he’s nostalgic for a Clinton presidency because when Bill was in office O’Rourke was still funny.

  22. The Inimitable Steve

MC – I’d rather do sex to Milo than Dworkin. At least you wouldn’t need to roll Milo in flour to find the entrance.

  23. @Chris Miller

Is that quote a sexual innuendo?

Suppose “innuendo” might be an ideophone itself !

  24. So it has come to this? The fate of the free world is in the hands of lesbian photographers in California?

At least now Republicans will quit pandering to the ‘moderate’ voters.

  25. – “In the 1970s, I’d often be bothered by predatory gays in public lavatories. That is something that largely disappeared by 2000 with increased social tolerance and the emergence of the internet.”

So, as you got older and older you found that gays hit on you less and less?

  26. @wat dabney / Theo – I went through a brief period around 15 years ago of being hit on by the gays. It coincided with me working out six times a week. We shan’t see those days again…

That PJ O’Rourke article is absolute dogshit. I’ve had funnier surgery. He must have mixed scotch and medication.

  27. Even the BBC is beginning to cotton on to the Hillary problem. There’s been a series of bits on their website about Hillary’s problems with various issues, currently that her husband is a liability on the stump these days:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-us-2016-36412809

Previously theres been articles about her NAFTA/TTIP problems, problems attracting younger women, problems with the Sanadistas etc etc.

And oddly enough less articles about how Trump is a loser and can’t possibly win.
