I’ve no idea as to the truth of this

One of Sir Cliff Richard’s child sex accusers was arrested over an alleged blackmail plot, it emerged yesterday.
The man, said to have ‘serious mental health problems’, contacted an aide of the pop legend demanding money not to spread false allegations about him.
But police were alerted to the scheme and detained the man for questioning.
According to reports the man, in his 40s, was then bailed with conditions banning him from contacting the singer or his PR team.
But the alleged blackmailer then spoke to South Yorkshire Police, the force in charge of the bungled investigation into Sir Cliff, 75.
Detectives fell for his lies and included his allegations in the file sent to the Crown Prosecution Service. The other force later dropped the blackmail case, it was reported.

But apparently it is now safe to take the grandkids past that vineyard he has just down the road this summer.

  1. So Much For Subtlety

The question is whether this insanity has run its course yet. There is still no evidence that anyone much has sexually abused any children. Not Cliff Richard, not Rolf Harris, not even Jimmy Savile.

I doubt that Clement Freud is guilty of a damn thing their.

In the meantime anyone can get anonymity if they make an accusation. The female QC at Waterloo station. The most prolific rapist in Britain. This one too. This is insanity. The best disinfectant is sunshine. We should all be free to assess the evidence in these cases.

  2. The South Yorkshire police are an shining example of probity and honesty that can barely be matched. Was it not them that allowed, nay, encouraged the RoP to abuse at least 4000 under-aged girls inRotherham ?

Perhaps their obsession with Sir Cliff was an honest attempt to balance their record ? Perhaps ….

  3. What happened to Cliff Richard is despicable. Having apparently found nothing on him, they couldn’t even bring themselves to say ‘we fucked up, he’s innocent’, just: “insufficient evidence at this time”…

I was tempted to tweet #IBelieveHim at the time, but would probably have got banned!

  4. Not Cliff Richard, not Rolf Harris, not Jimmy Saville; Jeeeus

With this logic you ciuld circumnavigate the globe and still believe the earth was flat.

The innocent got swept up with the guilty here due to stupidity. However, stupidity includes those who refuse to believe ANY of the allegations could be true… except Rotherham of course; we agree those Pakis are guilty, but only them.

Still defending child rapists I see. Most sensible people don’t refuse to believe *any* allegation. Most sensible people evaluate each person on a case by case basis. There is no good evidence against Harris or Savile. There is plenty of evidence against the Muslim child rapists. You know, the ones you think it is racism to criticise.

Ironman: The innocent got swept up with the guilty here due to stupidity.

You’re being rather cavalier here with those innocent and the price they pay thanks to the punishment being the process.

Lords McAlpine and Bramall and Briton were all victims of the same stupidity and were publicly shamed. In the case of Sir Cliff, it was made a set-piece showbiz co-production with the BBC and you believe we are so much better now.

Don’t forget the ‘Pakis’ in Oxford, btw.

  7. Ironman,

There is not one credible case that has been shown re: Jimmy Savile. Rolf Harris would not have been convicted if those cases has been brought to trial separately, they were such a mess.

  8. If it’s worthwhile input, my next door neighbour’s been with the touring band for years. With the pressure cooker tours tend to be, he reckons it’d hard to hide odd predilections & he’s never seen the slightest sign of it. But he does reckon Sir Cliff’s less than flavour of the month with certain factions. He’s pretty well what it says on the tin. Thoroughly decent bloke, not into the sex ‘n drugs part of rock & roll & an unashamed christian. Gets right up some people’s noses.

  9. bloke in spain,

There’s two things going on here I believe: a) the authorities feel under enormous pressure to demonstrate that Something Is Being Done after Savile, and they went after people who were public, old (people who have mostly stopped working, for whom a year in prison won’t be that big a deal and who will take that over a long, protracted fight or risk a longer sentence).

One of the most common connecting strands that I’ve noticed, is naffness. These are people from the 60s/70s that the public would mostly rather forget they liked, that they’ll gladly disavow ever liking. No-one is going after Jimmy Page or John Peel, even though there is documentary reports. Polanski, the runaway child rapist is still feted. I’m not sure who I believe with regards to Woody Allen, but if it were Sylvester Stallone, he would be persona non grata just for the allegations.

  10. Ironman must have engaged his humour circuits.

When femmi-scum who insist that tall tales of 50 year old sexual abuse, entirely uncorroborated–and with partial refutation in many cases–must be believed. While at the same time declaring that women raped and abused en masse by our dear imported friends were “unreliable witnesses” 48 hour or less after the assaults occurred.

His hypocrisy circuit is always on of course. And in danger of burning out.

  11. “There is plenty of evidence against the Muslim child rapists. You know, the ones you think it is racism to criticise.”

Well maybe the ones that were convicted Rusty?

  12. Create a system where people can anonymously accuse someone with no criminal repurcusions if you are lying.

Be ASTONISHED when false claims are made.

  13. The allegations against Richard were particularly absurd. I am no fan of evangelical Christianity, but the idea that Christian rallies were being used to homosexually rape minors is grotesque.

    Spot on, Rob.

  15. And so SMFS

At 8.08am it was all a witch hunt.

By 9.22 I’m defending child rapists.

Oh I’m sorry, you’re a smart cookie taking it on a case-by-case basis aren’t you. In this case the accused is white; in that he’s a Paki.

I think one thing that comes out of this is that it should be a bloody sight easier to sack coppers, especially of the CID variety, who fuck up. Also, for a witch hunt to be justified in the smallest degree, it is necessary that there first be witches.

  17. Whether or not Savile, Rolf, Freud, etc. were innocent (and I don’t believe they were), I don’t believe for a second any of the allegations agaionst Cliff Richard.

For one thing, he never worked for the BBC.

  18. So Much For Subtlety

Ironman – “Oh I’m sorry, you’re a smart cookie taking it on a case-by-case basis aren’t you. In this case the accused is white; in that he’s a Paki.”

You have a long history of asserting anyone condemning the Rotherham Rapes was racist. Not my problems. Yours.

In these cases it is true that the innocent seem to be White and in the gang rape cases, so far, they have all been BME. But then Gary Glitter was guilty. No one denies that. And he looks a little bit White to me.

The only racism here is yours. Not mine.
