Idiot fucking twats

Yet while the rest of the city gives in to nostalgia for New York’s heyday as the dirty, dangerous creative capital of the world, in the South Bronx itself a less welcome revolution is under way. The area that was once shorthand for urban decline, a no-go zone of burned-out buildings, addiction and despair, is in the developers’ crosshairs.

There’s talk of gentrification

Because reversing urban decline, not having a no-go zone of burned-out buildings, reducing addiction and despair, is such a terrible fucking thing to do to an area, isn’t it?

You monstrously stupid cunts.

  1. Clearly, it’d be preferable if it changed like Milwaukee (once the prosperous German-descent blue collar town famous for breweries) has now changed…

  2. It’s funny, there are no such articles about Detroit “fighting to keep its soul”. Because when places and institutions do go under, the process is characterised by an absence of people interested enough anymore to save them. Those so very concerned about the South Bronx are middle-aged, middle class people who have long since lost touch with the thing they lionise and wouldn’t much care to get back in touch.

Yeah, but it’s Who? Whom? stuff.

Gentrification means fewer blacks. That’s really all the fuss is about.

Dunno exactly dearieme, but you’ll no doubt be shocked to hear new slums spring up wherever they go.

Milwaukee, as JuliaM says, was once a nice town but you wouldn’t recognise it from repeats of Laverne & Shirley. Detroit used to boast among the highest living standards in the world, and now it looks like Mogadishu.

    Damn racism.

  5. Nor is “gentrification” a risk-free activity anymore.

Stephan Molyneux has a piece on this up on his video site.

Lots of white –“I’m not racist” morons with too much money and too little nous are moving their families into harms way by trying to improve these areas and show how much they love blacks. The feeling is not reciprocated.

You’d think 25 tril in welfare dollars would by you just a little goodwill wouldn’t you?

  6. Aren’t white people just bringing some much-needed diversity to the area? Or is that the wrong kind of diversity?

  7. In London places like Shepherd’s Bush and Stratford have been “gentrified” with the building of the large Westfield shopping centres but there are as many blacks as there were before.

  8. There was an article on Breitbart pointing out that many US cities are at risk of de-gentrifiying. Post the BLM race baiting hysteria, cops are being forced to ease off on their robust, ‘broken window policing’ and thus crime is rocketing. Obviously anywhere fully gentrified will probably be OK, but your hipster districts with an exciting edge (the edge next to the ghetto) will soon return to the wild.

It never was a risk-free activity in the US at least. But generally, gays and childless hipsters move in first, when crime is still high, and accept the most risk. Families with kids usually don’t move in until the gentrification process is more or less complete.

And they might claim they’re doing it because they love blacks, but the reality is they’re there because of a real estate arbitrage opportunity. South Bronx is close enough to Manhattan that its housing will be incredibly valuable if they can get most of the riff-raff moved out.
