No doubt we’ll have the usual suspects announcing that democracy wins

Twice as many British voters want to scrap 0.7% GDP aid pledge than keep it in place, poll finds

We will, won’t we? Democracy being the ultimate value? Owen? Ritchie?

  1. And 5w% of Brits recently voted to Leave the EU. Ritchie and Owen don’t seem as keen on democracy as they profess to be.

  2. Foreign aid might be defined as a transfer from poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countries. – Douglas Casey

  3. Wasn’t that one of the 2 achievements Cameron said he was proud of when he resigned (the other being gay marriage)?

Being generous with other people’s money is not something I would rate as an achievement. He should be made to give everything he owns to foreign aid, the twat.

  4. “Wasn’t that one of the 2 achievements Cameron said he was proud of when he resigned (the other being gay marriage)?”

Is that it? He makes Heath look like Churchill.

  5. I’d close it down. The state is for doing things collectively that we can’t do individually. We can individually donate to charities, so close down Foreign Aid. Close down govt funding for charities while you’re at it.

  6. As mentioned elsewhere, John Major’s greatest achievement was creating no-fly zones for the safety of the Kurds. Perhaps that kind of thing is where our 0.7% should go.

  7. Why not scrap the 0.7% and push some of it into Defence?

We shouldn’t do development aid, that Angus Deaton fellow proved that it’s counterproductive.

Emergency aid: well that’s stuff like restoring order, dealing with traumatic injuries, moving large amounts of supplies in a hurry. All stuff the military is geared up for. So why not just spend it there, getting a stronger military for us, and saving lives for them, all in one go?

    +1

End Gift Aid too – another compulsory “donation” to charities by taxpayers.

  9. Bloke in Costa Rica

If we spent 0.7% of GDP on converting sundry Jihadis into a fine pink mist that would be a splendid contribution to foreign aid.
