That’s everywhere, isn’t it?

The piece, originally titled “I Got Three Grindr Dates in an Hour in the Olympic Village”, quickly drew criticism of reporter Nico Hines for voyeurism and potentially putting closeted athletes at risk.

In one case, Hines gave the height, weight, nationality and language of an athlete from a country where discrimination and violence against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community is widespread.

At least so the comment pages of the Guardian keep telling me.

Although out here in the real world we do manage to make the distinction between sneering “gayboy shirtlifter” at someone and hanging them for buggery. One’s merely rude, the other terminally serious.

Bad, but if you’re a gay from a Religion of Peace country, going on Grindr probably isn’t the best of ideas.

  2. “the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community”

Dang! That’s going to be one hell of a tiny community. Maybe what they really mean is the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities.

I bet they installed it on their phones at baggage collection in Rio.

  4. Well, I suspect the usual suspects actually believe sneering “gayboy shirtlifter” in the west to be a far worse crime than hanging people for buggery in ROP countries. After all, it would be culturally insensitive to complain about hanging for buggery in ROP countries, to protest for women’s rights in ROP countries, to demand freedom for Christians and atheists in ROP countries, etc. etc.

  5. He does say “where discrimination and violence […] is widespread”. So that’s nowhere in the EU, let’s face it. The original article has been pulled so we can’t judge for ourselves which countries he was referring to, but it was stupid of him to put people’s lives in danger for no good reason.

The RoP gets a free pass among leftists because it resists Western hegemony, turbo-charged finance capitalism, etc. Quite bizarre how leftists will tie themselves in knots over whom to align with!

Be honest – in the west that could lose you your job. Not all; that tolerant.
