Only half of Bernie Sanders supporters are deluded

Half of Bernie Sanders supporters don’t think Hillary Clinton is honest

And now for the interesting question.

  1. I watched Andrew Neil interview Shami Chakrabarti this afternoon, and Hillary Clinton appears the more trustworthy of the two.

  2. I’ve just seen the clip of Shami with Brillo on Guido’s website. Shifty doesn’t even begin do describe her demeanour!

  3. I was always a little irritated by Shami, but I honestly didn’t think she was stupid.

There is a cult-like aspect to Corbyn in terms of his ability to convince wrong-headed but hitherto respectable people to lose their minds – Paul Mason is another example.

  4. Charlie Suet

I’m afraid that Paul Mason was always a wrong’un he just managed to keep it from being too obvious -although it tells us a great deal about the BBC and Channel 4News that they employed such a totally insane leftie.

Shami was a surprise to me. I found her sanctimonious and irritating, but her acceptance of a peerage from Corbyn and the appalling whitewash was truly disgraceful. Arise Lady Shame of Whitewash.

  5. Based on that photo, and this one in the Times, she’s rather attractive for 41.

    Indeed. So…

It’s difficult for older educated women to find suitable partners

Because she’s likely to be fucking insane, a complete bitch, or have some other serious defect. Remember, folks: if she’s hot and single, there are probably very good reasons why. Khalid might not think a British passport is worth it after 6 months!

  6. John Square in Piraeus

Can you imagine the outrage of this was a 40+ bloke and a twenty something refugee hottie?

Again, not saying this relationship isn’t genuine and above board, but the mail piece (vituperative and snide as it may be) is a gentle piece by comparison to what the Graun would have done if this was a 42 year old male management consultant from one of the big four with a curvy young Syrian lady.

She’s “fucking insane” all right: giving up her job, and marrying a refugee toyboy. Once he’s bored with her, he’ll probably knock her around, and they’ll separate.

  8. Richard Littlejohn in the Daily Mail:

And at least these intrepid members of the British Sexpeditionary Force are relieving the pressure on local prostitutes, who have been struggling to keep up with the demand for their services.

It would appear that when young male migrants aren’t setting fire to barricades or trying to break into container lorries with chainsaws, they’re forming an orderly queue for Grab A Gremlin Nite at the back of the communal latrines. Welcome to the Fumble In The Jungle….

Perhaps those ladies heading for France to offer themselves as sexual partners genuinely believe they are on some kind of humanitarian mission.

Come to think of it, they must be pretty desperate. What kind of madwoman watches a bunch of migrants fighting with riot police on TV and decides to drop everything and head for Calais to provide how’s-yer-father to complete strangers?…

Perhaps there’s already an iPhone app which matches up frustrated British women with thrusting young foreign migrants who haven’t had so much as a brief tasteful glimpse of available female flesh since they left Kabul or Mogadishu.
Swipe right for Sulemain, 22, from Somalia, third cardboard box along from the Red Cross soup kitchen.

    @Theo

Glad to see Littlejohn is refraining from purple prose. It’d be easy to overshoot the mark by weighing in big-style.

  10. Getting back on topic, Bernie’s brother Larry is the Green candidate in Cameron’s former seat of Witney. Interesting to speculate on which of them would get the bigger vote share.

The SJWs at the Groan Will be the least of his worries once warriors from the RoP find him.

  12. John Square in Piraeus – “what the Graun would have done if this was a 42 year old male management consultant from one of the big four with a curvy young Syrian lady.”

Isn’t this basically what Gorgeous George Galloway has done? When it comes to morality, it is always a side and never a principle with the Guardian.

Theophrastu – “Once he’s bored with her, he’ll probably knock her around, and they’ll separate.”

If she is lucky. Time to end citizenship-by-marriage. A British subject ought to be the child of two British subjects and no one else.

  13. @ SMFS
Well, that would get rid of Winston Churchill and let Hitler win the war…
The mrdiaeval tradition of royalty marrying foreign royalty wouldn’t be affected as the king was the son of two “not-subjects” of whatever nationality.

  14. john77 – “Well, that would get rid of Winston Churchill and let Hitler win the war…”

I find it hard to see how Hitler would have won the war. As for Churchill, that is a price I am willing to pay. It is not as if his mother was exactly an asset to Britain.

“The mrdiaeval tradition of royalty marrying foreign royalty wouldn’t be affected as the king was the son of two “not-subjects” of whatever nationality.”

Royals have largely given that up. Public pressure forced William to marry a local. His mother sort of did. His grand father did. I don’t see the relevance.

  15. @SMFS “When it comes to morality, it is always a side and never a principle with the Guardian.”

    Bravo.

“Well, that would get rid of Winston Churchill…”

How? He was born in the UK to a British father and an American mother. Even if his mother didn’t have UK citizenship, he would still have been British.

  17. Time to end citizenship-by-marriage.

You don’t get citizenship by marriage in the UK: the foreign spouse gets a residency visa based on the marriage, and they apply for citizenship after a certain period on the basis of residency in the UK.

Besides, I disagree with your plan: it would force British men to marry British women. Leaving aside all other possible objections, the one that I couldn’t stand is this infuriating habit a lot of British women seem to have of complaining that their husband is drinking. An advantage of being married to a Russian is that she doesn’t complain I am drinking unless I am pouring vodka on the cornflakes. And given the importance of a man’s alcohol intake to surviving a marriage with anyone, this criteria is important for me.

  18. 1. Citizenship by marriage applies to the husband. If a foreign woman married a British man in the 1800s, she became British.

    2. Several Muslim countries still have this rule. So she may actually become Syrian by marrying him (probably not, but I don’t read Arabic. Syria was pretty foward-looking before all this nonsense and even if Daesh became the legitimate government of Syria it wouldn’t give a shit about international law)

    3. She can only sponsor him to live in the UK if she earns more than £18600 per year. Does an aid worker earn this much?

    4. After 5 years, he may qualify for citizenship, if still married and she is still earning £18600 per year (adjusted to whatever they inflate it to by then).

    5. If all goes according to his plan, they would still have to stump up £5000 to the Home Office etc. before he could get a British passport. Yes, it might come from her, but so what.

    6. While the UK remains in the EU, marrying her would give him the right to reside with her in any other EEA country except the UK, without any fees.

    7. Similarly, if he married a French woman who was willing to move to the UK so he could follow her, he would gain the right to live in the UK (as long as she is working, seeking work, studying, or is self-sufficient).

They are definitely marrying because he wants to live in the UK. But he must be attracted to her a little bit too. I don’t know what she is thinking.

  19. > Mine never complains that I’m drinking

Mine never complains while I’m drinking; only once I return home drunk. I haven’t yet tested what would happen if I stayed out all night until I had sobered up.

  20. “She’s “fucking insane” all right: giving up her job, and marrying a refugee toyboy. Once he’s bored with her, he’ll probably knock her around, and they’ll separate.”

And he’ll take half of whatever equity she has in her £800k house (good old Daily Mail telling us the important facts), and she’ll be reduced to being a much sadder (but probably not wiser) and considerably poorer middle aged woman.

  21. Andrew C – “Capturing the spirit of the entire Left in one neat sentence.”

I would love to say it is mine but it isn’t. It is some Australian’s.

Theophrastus – “How? He was born in the UK to a British father and an American mother. Even if his mother didn’t have UK citizenship, he would still have been British.”

Obviously we can’t go back and change history but the record I specifically called for this to be forbidden. I think you should be required to have two married British parents to qualify for citizenship. Future Winstons can f**k off to America.

Tim Newman – “You don’t get citizenship by marriage in the UK: the foreign spouse gets a residency visa based on the marriage, and they apply for citizenship after a certain period on the basis of residency in the UK.”

So you do get it, they just make you jump through some hoops first.

“Besides, I disagree with your plan: it would force British men to marry British women.”

Sometimes you just have to man up and take one for the team.

“An advantage of being married to a Russian is that she doesn’t complain I am drinking unless I am pouring vodka on the cornflakes.”

Yet. British men are overly civilised. So British women are slumming for wife-beating Muslims. Your Russian wife thinks she is lucky but gradually it will dawn on her why Western women slum for honour-killing Muslims. She will slowly turn into one of those perpetually unhappy British wives unless you treat her as Russian women expect to be treated – learn from Russian men. Just read a life of Solzhenitsyn. There is a man who got devotion from the women in his life. I bet he never left the toilet seat down.

  22. Your Russian wife thinks she is lucky but gradually it will dawn on her why Western women slum for honour-killing Muslims.

Nah, she lived with an Egyptian before I met her. She knows enough about this to write a book. Crucially she learned from it.

She will slowly turn into one of those perpetually unhappy British wives unless you treat her as Russian women expect to be treated – learn from Russian men.

Indeed. Although I’m somewhere in the middle.

  23. Having a foreign-born wife, I find myself agreeing with SMFS here.

Just ‘cos I married her, why should she get citizenship based on that and residency? And if she gets it ‘cos of marriage, then if we divorce, shouldn’t she have to sling her hook?

Citizenship should be given on merit. But take integration with the locals into account, sure.

Admittedly easy for me to say that though, as my missus got her citizenship via the rare-skill work permit route, as by the time we got married it was the easiest way.

In my book, it should also apply to dependents. Get rid of the bloody dependent’s visa. Make it over on your own merits or manage without your partner for a while.

(I’ve seen foreign friends stay together just long enough for the dependent one to also get citizenship before divorcing)
