So when your electoral tactic is to call them ignorant hicks and you lose the election….

Your best tactic is to respond to that electoral loss by calling them all ignorant hicks?

The same people who wear shirts that read “fuck your feelings” and rail against “political correctness” seem to believe that there should be no social consequences for their vote. I keep hearing calls for empathy and healing, civility and polite discourse. As if supporting a man who would fill his administration with white nationalists and misogynists is something to simply agree to disagree on.

Absolutely not. You don’t get to vote for a person who brags about sexual assault and expect that the women in your life will just shrug their shoulders. You don’t get to play the victim when people unfriend you on Facebook, as if being disliked for supporting a bigot is somehow worse than the suffering that marginalized people will endure under Trump. And you certainly do not get to enjoy a performance by people of color and those in the LGBT community without remark or protest when you enact policies and stoke hatred that put those very people’s lives in danger.

Being socially ostracized for supporting Trump is not an infringement of your rights, it’s a reasonable response by those of us who are disgusted, anxious, and afraid. I was recently accused by a writer of “vote shaming” – but there’s nothing wrong with being made to feel ashamed for doing something shameful.

Honey, they disagree with you about the world, that’s all.

Whether it’s Pence at a play or your Trump-voting uncle at Thanksgiving, there are people right now who should be made to feel uncomfortable. In a time when there is so much to protest, so much work to do, the booing is necessary – shame on us if we ever stop.

  1. ‘The same people who wear shirts that read “All white people are evil” and rail against “male privilege” seem to believe that there should be no social consequences for their vote.’

If people thought they had a scintilla of a point, they have gone so far (and show signs of going further) that increasing numbers of people no longer think they do. What white male is going to support these cunts? What white female with white sons and a father and husband she loves is going to support them? What black person with white friends will support them? The internet is full of pieces by former leftists who grew tired of being lectured and hectored and moved rightwards. People will only take being told they are the epitome of evil, when their ancestors built the most civilised and successful countries the world has ever seen, for so long.
I suspect the ‘social consequences’ of this bullshit are being reflected on the Guardian‘s balance sheet. Long may they continue.

  2. Hang on, they did all of this *before* the result. Why do they think that the result is “fück you”? Cos the left had been giving Trump voters the big FU for a year now.

And, they should stop the “sexual assault” thing – when their lot were cheering a real rapist Bill Clinton on the stump, it’s clear that they’re not sincere.

And I repeat again – Trump was the most openly pro-LGBT presidential candidate EVAR… But that doesn’t fit the narrative…

  3. Arrogant, insolent bitch.

Does the cow think that “Fuck your Feelings” teeshirts would ever have had a raison d’etre without the evil bullshit that she and all the rest of the middle class Marxist scum spew.

Good luck trying to shame me you scummy middle-class bitch. If you and your CM groupthink buddies have a thing for shame try the 150 million murdered by socialism so far.

  4. Difficult to see how doubling down on hating white people is going to help silly leftists. Funny to read this increasingly unbalanced response coupled with the Guardian pleading for money at the bottom of the page.

  5. @Mr Ecks,

When The Left were dishing it out, they a) thought that they were justified, and b) thought they’d never have to take it themselves.

Wrong on both counts. Payback’s a bitch. The moral of the story is don’t throw a punch and then whine about being hit back.

  6. To be fair, I’ve been socially ostracising & calling cunts Labour voters for years. And seems to have been quite effective, last couple of elections

  7. “Like abortion? Or lying about being raped?”

Or cheering Bill Clinton while going apoplectic about something Trump said 11 years ago?

  8. If someone asked my the fundamental cause of Trump getting elected, my shorthand answer would be; Because Jessica Valenti.

It really does sum it up very elegantly.

  9. a man who would fill his administration with white nationalists and misogynists

is a typically mindless meme with these sanctimonious cretins. The truth of the matter is explored here:

    http://slatestarcodex.com/2016/11/16/you-are-still-crying-wolf/

and very interesting reading it makes too. A link to send to your leftist friends, should you be so unfortunate as to have any. Assuming their heads haven’t already exploded, this should set them off with a nice bang of cognitive dissonance – because if not all Trump’s voters are monsters, what does that make me?

By the way, they have nabbed the four dindus who attacked David Wilcox:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-trump-beating-charges-20161118-story.html

  10. Bloke in North Dorset

When I opened the link and saw the author’s name was Jessica it triggered one of my time saving heuristics and I stopped reading there and then.

  11. You know what, this lefty tactic of calling ordinary folks various “-ists” is working out really well for us.

    Don’t discourage them!

  12. @Matthew L

What makes you think it’s sincere? It’s an application of Alinsky’s Rule 4 (make them live up to their own rules), with a dose of Rule 6 (which can be summarised as “The Schadenboner”).

  13. “By the way, they have nabbed the four dindus who attacked David Wilcox”

And the black extremist who assaulted an old man in New York for being a Trump supporter. She is, with fantastic irony, an “anti-bullying co-ordinator”.

  14. Does anyone actually care? I thought Trump was silly defending Pence. The cast of Hamilton looked like right twats to anyone sensible. Just leave it alone.

And really, does anyone care about being unfriended by some vegetarian milquetoasts or ugly, charmless feminists?

  15. “Does anyone actually care? I thought Trump was silly defending Pence. The cast of Hamilton looked like right twats to anyone sensible. Just leave it alone.”

But the tweet brought the episode to the attention to a greater number of sensible people. That is the point.

And the fact that the left don’t get the way Trump works is why they’re tilting at windmills, and he just steps aside and lets them smash into the wall, to mix metaphors somewhat.

  16. “To be fair, I’ve been socially ostracising & calling cunts Labour voters for years. And seems to have been quite effective, last couple of elections”

But you’ve been doing that to the ones that’ll never vote for your side. Not everyone. I presume, at least…

  17. Thanks for the link, Thomas Fuller.

As well as having truly dumb names, Dejuan and Rajane are every bit as ugly on the outside as they are on the inside.

  18. She’s happy to hurl abuse at Trump supporters but doesn’t have the bottle to open her articles to comment, ostensibly because ‘sexism’ but really for fear of being ‘cretin-shamed’.

  19. “Whether it’s Pence at a play or your Trump-voting uncle at Thanksgiving, there are people right now who should be made to feel uncomfortable.”

That’s the spirit! Boo your uncle at the family Thanksgiving dinner! Why be a part time obnoxious ignorant cunt when you can graduate to being a full time Zen master obnoxious cunt with this one single strike against the forces of oppression?

  20. But remember to check first if said uncle is paying you through college – he might react in an extreme manner and cut off your allowance.

  21. Apart from their precious asininity, the really stupid thing about the chorfs is the bad tactics. All successful democratic political movements are coalitions. You have to accept the votes of people who disagree with you about some stuff but are willing to vote for you on balance.

So there’s some fuckwit friend-of-a-friend on Facebook blowing a gasket over discussion of the Slate Star Codex analysis because OBVIOUSLY TRUMP IS RACIST AND YOU ARE RACIST TOO IF YOU DISAGREE THIS IS FRIGHTENING RISE OF HITLER AAAARRRRGGGHH! And the thing is, I’m not a Trump supporter. I think he wasn’t quite as bad as Clinton (low bar) and he probably isn’t racist, but I don’t like the guy and have said repeatedly that he’s bloody awful. So insulting me and shouting at me is just plain stupid. It’s as if a Labour candidate knocks on your door canvassing, you tell them that they can count on your vote, and then they start screaming at you because it turns out you disagree with them about Clause 4. Which is actually the way the Left are going: they aren’t willing just to accept support; they demand rigid ideological conformity. They seem to actually revel in throwing away the votes of people who aren’t good enough for them.

Same thing happens with gay marriage. I support allowing it but object to talk of “marriage equality” (which it isn’t) or the “human right to marry the person you’re in love with” (which is entirely mythical). Anyone with a brain would have a civilised conversation with me about that while accepting my support for their cause. Nope. Gay marriage activists scream at me on the Internet. Thus changing my mind, obviously. The SNP did the same thing: I supported Scottish Independence until somewhere around the time the Yes Campaign decided saturation usage of the word “quisling” was a Really Good Plan.

Trump won the election by persuading the people who voted for Obama twice to vote for him. A lot of them are black. Maybe calling them “RACIST!” will be cathartic. But I don’t think it’ll be persuasive.

(Yes, I will keep using the word “chorf” until it catches on. You’re welcome.)

  22. S2 – indeed. Not only must you support them on all critical policy points, but you must support them actively and enthusiastically.

Anything less, as you say, gets you screamed at.

And you’d have to already be drinking the kool aid to respond to that with “Oh, I’d better get into line then”…

  23. S2

It’s because most of them are young, fairly stupid and amazingly ignorant of the world despite a lengthy period of education. It’s a childish tantrum as a political philosophy.

  24. The Inimitable Steve

    I like the term “chorf”.

It reminds me of C.H.U.D., which was one of them video nasties I always begged my dad to rent from the video shop.

    But he never did.

  25. Fake FB news guy paul horners thinks his clever tactics backfired on him

“I thought they’d fact-check it, and it’d make them look worse. I mean that’s how this always works: Someone posts something I write, then they find out it’s false, then they look like idiots. But Trump supporters — they just keep running with it! They never fact-check anything! Now he’s in the White House. Looking back, instead of hurting the campaign, I think I helped it. And that feels [bad].

  26. S2,

    Re “Chorf”
Having once been instrumental in getting the phrase “with knobs on” to cross the pond, I am all in favour of innovation in our great Mother Tongue.

Can you elucidate further the etymology of your charming addition to the lexicon?

  27. Bloke in North Dorset

I followed TMB’s link to that excellent rant and then on to a couple of Ann Coulter videos following her book launch. She nailed it – predicting Trump would get the nomination and how they laughed at her when she said he would beat Clinton and explained exactly why.

As S2 says so eloquently, the left still don’t want to listen when their told why they lost, and that’s the underlying reason they lost.

  28. I continue to enjoy the raving of people who thought they’d strike a blow against sexual harassment by voting to put Slick Willie back in the White House.

I use the term “blow” advisedly, m’Lud.

Yup. That’s exactly what I wrote about here:

By demonising anyone who doesn’t agree with them 100% and hitching their wagon to the transgender movement – which has far narrower support than the gay rights movement does, particularly if it involves the locker rooms of teenage girls – they have alienated a considerable number of “live and let live” natural supporters, in whose numbers I could be counted.

  30. ‘This from a man who has mocked a disabled reporter, encouraged violence at his rallies, and spent a lifetime denigrating women.’

Straight from Obama’s play book. Obama should be remembered for popularizing the straw man fallacy (and false dichotomy). The Left makes up things about Trump, and then attacks the created character.

It has had limited effectiveness against Trump, because he is known, he has been seen on TV. Celebrity is the best vaccination for defamation. So people doubt the straw man, and it makes the Lefty look stupid and dishonest. Ms Valenti doesn’t realize she is cartoonish.

  31. The Inimitable Steve

abacab – Not only must you support them on all critical policy points, but you must support them actively and enthusiastically.

Even that is a losing strategy. The estimable S2 is, in the parlance of modern leftist discourse, a fucking white male.

Which is today’s version of a kulak or the juden.

Therefore no amount of violent agreement with the progquisition will be enough to satisfy them. At best you can offer up your self respect and your testicles as a figurative burnt offering in exchange for their grudging and very temporary tolerance of you as an “ally”.

But sooner or later, they’ll come after you.

Progressivism is just totalitarianism with septum piercings. There’s no limit to their demands, as people who thought supporting civil partnerships was enough to put them on The Right Side Of History discovered. Only to find out a few years later that they were actually homophobic bigots.

Ultimately it’s not “about” gay rights or women’s rights or the supposedly scared racial minorities or whatever they’re screaming about this week. To argue with them on the ishoos is missing the point. As we’ve seen, they’ll just change what the ishoos are until they catch you out. Oh, you agree with gay marriage? What about free sex changes for dolphins, bigot?

Modern leftism isn’t the result of logic or values, it’s a political manifestation of the vast reservoir of inchoate rage felt by weirdos, losers, lazy people, fatties, weak chinless men, the mentally ill, and lonely perverts.

The correct response is to troll them until they cry.

  32. PG,

    > Can you elucidate further the etymology of your charming addition to the lexicon?

It’s an acronym: Cliquish Holier-than-thou Obnoxious Reactionary Fanatic. It seems to have caught on amongst right-wing sci-fi fans during the ongoing sci-fi culture wars, which are a thing.

    Steve,

    > The estimable S2 is, in the parlance of modern leftist discourse, a fucking white male.
    > Which is today’s version of a kulak or the juden.

Very literally, actually. Apparently, the only possible reason for pointing out that Trump appears not to be racist or that, even if he secretly is, screaming “RACIST!” at him is counterproductive is that YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT RACISM. So I point out that I do care because I’m Jewish and live in Tower Hamlets, but of course mentioning any concerns about that racism is one of the things that causes the Left to scream “RACIST!” at you.

  33. > S2 is, in the parlance of modern leftist discourse, a fucking white male.

I will add that, when I merely tried to reassure her that the world wasn’t about to end, my niece called me that, only without the “fucking” — though I suspect that’s just because her dad watches her Facebook account. Wasn’t even trying to have any sort of pro-Trump argument with her or anything (because I’m not pro-Trump); really just trying to let her know elections aren’t that bad, politicians aren’t worth getting distraught over, and the people telling her the gulags are coming to America and everyone’s going to die are best ignored. Started shouting at me that I’m white, male, and straight. Jesus, OK, then: you want to be distraught, be distraught. But, you know, going out clubbing or something might be more fun.

How are these kids going to look back on their teenage years in their retirement? I’m going to have loads of fun memories (assuming I still have memories). They’re going to remember that time they failed at everything by shouting abuse at people.

  34. “How are these kids going to look back on their teenage years in their retirement? I’m going to have loads of fun memories (assuming I still have memories). They’re going to remember that time they failed at everything by shouting abuse at people.”

The SJW are effectively robbing a lot of teenagers of their late childhood by causing them to waste time on this sort of nonsense.

We were getting drunk, and throwing ourselves down hills on mountain bikes without helmets, downloading low-res 256 colour GIF pr0n on dialup and generally having a good time in the pre-smartphone era.

  35. ‘The SJW are effectively robbing a lot of teenagers of their late childhood by causing them to waste time on this sort of nonsense.’

Not new. I went to an anti-war protest sit-in in 1970. Jane Fonda was speaking. I wanted to see the hippie chics with no bra. Couldn’t focking care less about the anti-war hysteria.

TIS, excellent perspective: ‘To argue with them on the ishoos is missing the point.’

  36. “I don’t approve of your opinions so you should be denied the right to vote”.

WTF kind of world are we now living in?

  37. I saw someone on Twitter saying that the phrase “uneducated white males” has been very popular lately with the Left, whereas he is yet to see the phrase “uneducated black males”.

  38. S2,
Perhaps your niece is genuinely nicer, better and more enlightened than you are.

As a start, you could check whether she does her share of the washing-up.

  39. “I saw someone on Twitter saying that the phrase “uneducated white males” has been very popular lately with the Left, whereas he is yet to see the phrase “uneducated black males”.”

Oh, yes, they rail against low-information voters, but then access to the polls for low-information voters is one of the openly-stated reasons that they oppose voter ID. Apparently some groups are too ill-informed / poor to get state issued ID.

So they don’t have a problem with the “uneducated” per se, just those that risk voting Republican…

  40. “uneducated white males”

I’m old enough to remember when the left openly admired working class values.

    Openly.

  41. “I’m old enough to remember when the left openly admired working class values.

    Openly.”

They were such racists then: They’ve evolved since. Or something.

  42. How are these kids going to look back on their teenage years in their retirement?

They’re not all kids, not by any means. I know of people like this in their 30s and 40s.

  43. “I’m old enough to remember when the left openly admired working class values.” I suspect that what they admired was purported working class values. Anyone who had worked with old-fashioned unionised British labour was likelier to want to shoot them all.

  44. “I suspect that what they admired was purported working class values. Anyone who had worked with old-fashioned unionised British labour was likelier to want to shoot them all.”

I think they admire what Marx considered to be “working-class values”, despite never seeming to have observed the object of his desires in the wild, as it were…

They’ve finally discovered that the working class don’t share their obsessions, and now hate them as a result.

  45. Has everyone here seen the image doing the rounds of some bint who’s had “Trump is not my fucking president” tattooed in three-inch-high script across her back?

  46. S2

Has everyone here seen the image doing the rounds of some bint who’s had “Trump is not my fucking president” tattooed in three-inch-high script across her back?

CJ Nerd above at 9.21 am

  47. Yes, she’s bravely testing the litrullyworsethanhitler hypothesis.

However, Trump may let this one pass so as not to give the game away too early.

    Not fully thought through.

  48. Bloke in North Dorset

Danny Boyle showed us how rosy their glasses are with that toe curling opening of the London Olympics.

  49. Bloke in North Dorset

Slightly O/T but I see that apparently the Government is considering a royal visit for Trump.

That promises to continue the head exploding fun. I wonder if their proposing it for that very reason?

  50. Bloke in Costa Rica

Yes, Interested, I made a similar point on the Pinstaundit’s comments a few days back: if you think that Trump Is Literally Hitler™, then why would you sign a petition to suborn the Electoral College with your name and fucking address on it? It’s like said Instapundit says re. “Climate Change”: I’ll believe these people mean what they say when they start acting like they mean what they say. That doesn’t include taking a private jet to a Gerbil Worming conference and it doesn’t include incontinently emoting on Tumblr.

  51. Jack C,

“I’m old enough to remember when the left openly admired working class values.”

No. The left admired the version of the working class from Soviet propaganda. All those smiling peasants marching as one to great achievement together once the capitalists have been smashed. To this they added rather middle class social values.

But they don’t know them. Sure, they meet the odd ones that go to Trotskyite meetings, but they don’t ever really meet the mass of them. They’ve never rubbed shoulders in a canteen with them on a regular basis.

It’s actually why Tories have much more of a clue. They might be the management in businesses, but at least they’re in businesses. My Conservative councillor was an area manager for a pub company. Labour one? She’s a landscape painter. Who do we think has a better grip on the desires of the working classes?

  52. How many Germans had ‘Hitler is a Cunt’ tattooed on their backs in the mid 1930s?

Many had a coded form tattooed on their inner forearm.

  53. No. The left admired the version of the working class from Soviet propaganda.

True, though i couldn’t quite think how to phrase what I was trying to say.

The point being that much of the left is now openly and quite aggressively hostile to poorer, less educated people. Many of whom are Northern. What were the odds?

  54. I saw someone on Twitter saying that the phrase “uneducated white males” has been very popular lately with the Left, whereas he is yet to see the phrase “uneducated black males”.

As long as the field negroes obey the house negroes, and the house negroes obey the plantation owners, it will continue to be that way.

To the Left, people being uneducated is only a problem when the uneducated don’t vote their way.

  55. Thomas Fuller

The first link is probably one of the best articles I have ever read anywhere on any topic – absolutely fantastic….

  56. Jessie Babe’s articles aren’t open for comment on the Guardian because Wikileaks exposed her as a plotter against the blessed Bernie. The sensible ones of us on CiF have a go at her anyway, but the Guardian is scared that the Guardianista will join in as well and her head will explode

  57. “but there’s nothing wrong with being made to feel ashamed for doing something shameful.”

Does this mean that we can finally put this to bed then? If I, for example, believe that gay sex is something shameful then of course there is nothing wrong with me making practitioners feel ashamed*.

Similarly same with people who worship a religion that advocates throwing said practitioners off tall buildings, seems shameful to me so great I can now make them feel ashamed (provided, of course, that I believed that throwing homosexuals off tall buildings was something to be ashamed of).

Same also applies to people who use dodgy statistics to prove the world is warming; people who vote for corrupt politicians due to the genitalia they happen to have between their legs; and people who think that free speech is only something to be protected if they happen to agree with it.

    The list is almost endless.

    * For the avoidance of doubt I have no issues whatsoever with the rainbow community (or whatever they are called nowadays); but some people do …

  58. @James in NZ: Ah no, you’re missing the crucial caveat that all Leftists forget to insert in their pronouncements – the bit that limits their statement to things they agree (or disagree) with.

So the statement should read ‘But there’s nothing wrong with being made to feel ashamed for doing something that I consider shameful’.

All Leftist utterances should be viewed through this prism – no points of principle can ever be drawn out from them, its all relative to their own personal preferences.
