Privacy experts fear Donald Trump running global surveillance network
Concerns raised that current US and UK surveillance system is ‘ripe for further abuse under an autocratic, power-obsessed president’
A useful little rule. Don’t let anyone have the power that you wouldn’t give to people you don’t like…..
Oh yeah–because Trump is MUCH more likely to abuse US govt systems than a bitch who has spent her life abusing US govt systems or watching her husband do the same.
Plus ordering numerous murders along the way.
“There have been some people who were complacent about things like drone killing of US civilians and mass surveillance under Obama, because they trusted him. That wilful neglect on their part is about to come back and possibly bite all of us in the ass,”
Oh no, you don’t get to offer that as acceptable. If you “trusted” one man to carry out drone strikes on your own citizens then to aren’t entitled to start crying about civil liberties; because you don’t really respect them.
There is a terrible lesson from history that we seem determined not to learn: when the Nazis went to the Reichstag to ban the Social Democrats, the soon-to-be-banned leader fave a brave, impassioned and principled defence of freedom of conscience and expression. The irony was that this was exactly the same law he had previously used to try to ban the Nazis.
“You’ve come late bit tou’ved arrived at last” was Hitler’s withering response.
So you’re about to decide that drone strikes are an outrage, the act of a meglamaniac in the White House? Well you were fine with them when the last guy was doing it.
Their hero Snowden doesn’t seem too worried…
Ironman – “The irony was that this was exactly the same law he had previously used to try to ban the Nazis.”
The lack of self-awareness from the man who has devoted years of his life to denouncing people for commenting on the Rotherham gang rapes as racist is pretty impressive.
You are not on the side of the heroes here Rusty. You belong with your friends in the Angry Brigade. As you have comprehensively shown.
Of course all those neoliberal institutes like Cato have been warning about this for years, but what do they know?

They might have other things to worry about soon. Trump has picked a good ‘un to head his transition team for the EPA:
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trump-picks-top-climate-skeptic-to-lead-epa-transition/
Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, is spearheading Trump’s transition plans for EPA, the sources said.
I am hoping Ted Cruz goes to the Supreme Court. And whoever heads up the DoJ they are on board prosecuting the Witch. If these cry bullies want to act out, let’s give them something to cry about.
The Left are fine with an autocrat in charge, it just has to be their autocrat.
Anyone fancy a drone strike against the Clinton Foundation?
“Ebell is a well-known and polarizing figure in the energy and environment realm. His participation in the EPA transition signals that the Trump team is looking to drastically reshape the climate policies the agency has pursued under the Obama administration. Ebell’s role is likely to infuriate environmentalists and Democrats but buoy critics of Obama’s climate rules.
Ebell, who was dubbed an “elegant nerd” and a “policy wonk” by Vanity Fair, is known for his prolific writings that question what he calls climate change “alarmism.” He appears frequently in the media and before Congress. He’s also chairman of the Cooler Heads Coalition, a group of nonprofits that “question global warming alarmism and oppose energy-rationing policies.”
Ebell appears to relish criticism from the left.”
Seems like an eminently suitable candidate.
If Trump does nothing else but keep the climate bollocks at bay for a few more years he’ll be the most successful President for decades. Within a decade it’ll be obvious that there is no runaway global warming, indeed based on solar activity it’s likely to get colder by the 2020s for a decade or two, which will kill it stone dead. We just need to get there without the water melons destroying the global economy first.
“Ebell is a well-known and polarizing figure in the energy and environment realm.”
Translation: he believes in something we don’t and he is willing to express it.
‘ripe for further abuse under an autocratic, power-obsessed president’
No, dumbass, she lost.
NSA is an outrage. I hope Trump/House/Senate crush it.
My belief is that the Dems set it up so they would have data on most Americans, then use data mining software on it pre-elections. Data mining can yield a 5% gain in votes.
Election cheating is just fine with the Left/Democrats.

It’s nice to know someone is paying such special attention to my thoughts – even if he’s too thick to understand them.
I’m sure these “privacy experts” (what is a “privacy expert” anyway?) have a long and honourable record of criticising its creation and use by Obama.
I’m sure these “privacy experts” (what is a “privacy expert” anyway?) have a long and honourable record of criticising its creation and use by Obama.
And I’m equally sure that they’ve spent much time and effort criticizing Obama’s IRS for harassing conservatives, as well as decrying Obama’s willingness to allow it to continue for years.
Fuck ’em. They are cunts.
D-t-P – a prosecution of Lois Lerner wouldn’t hurt, would it?
Technically, I think I’m one of those. People certainly pay me to design systems or business processes to protect privacy (“privacy engineering” was the term of art a few years ago. “Privacy by design” is the new phrase. But all people are bothered about at the moment is GDPR compliance. Fines concentrate was passes for the mind …)
Or to run Privacy Impact Assessments.

This is tin-hat territory.
While much of the government is Democrat leaning, you’d be hard pressed to argue the same about the military and national security apparatus.
Unless you think the entire NSA, CIA and Homeland are in on a massive conspiracy, with not one being a Republican.
Also, I’d like to see how data mining can “yield a 5% gain”. Some mechanism whereby knowing who someone rings most often is able to affect their votes. Because I think you are just making shit up.
You gravely underestimate the power of data mining. It’s uncanny sometimes. There’s evidence that the Democrats’ big data GOTV operations this time were flawed and possibly even counterproductive, but AI and deep data analysis are just going to continue growing in importance.
Ironman – “It’s nice to know someone is paying such special attention to my thoughts – even if he’s too thick to understand them.”
“Thoughts” is being generous. But it is hard to ignore them. In the same way it is hard to ignore the unkempt man in the vomit-stained great coat who keeps ranting about the implants in his brain.
Except, of course, you contribute a lot less.
