About this sextortion stuff then

The National Crime Agency (NCA) said it believed it was also significantly under-reported and actual numbers of victims were likely much higher.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) said the rise in cases was “worrying”.
“Sextortion” is a form of blackmail where criminals use fake identities to befriend victims online before persuading them to perform sexual acts in front of their webcam.

The images are recorded by the criminals who then threaten to share them with the victims’ friends and family unless they give in to their demands for payment.

Err, wise advice therefore being don’t whack one off to a stranger on the internet.

Going to rather kill Chat Roulette’s business model but still…

  1. In order of dimness how should one rank people who hang on the Prof’s lips against people who fall for this scam?

  2. The key word is persuasion.

If you are daft enough to be persuaded to put your wallet into an envelope and post it to an unknown other person that is your fucking stupid fault. You silly son/daughter of a bitch.

How much more so with sexual antics ?

Can it be more than a tiny–no pun intended–problem for a few supreme fools. How daft do you have to be to send your own blackmail material to your blackmailer?

If its a genuine problem I sense a new source of income. Put an ad in the paper:

“DONE ANYTHING WRONG? SEXUAL/FINANCIAL INDESCRITIONS ? SEND FULL DETAILS TOGETHER WITH S.A.E (I’m not paying the postage and I don’t trust computers) TO Mr ECKS INC etc, etc. LOWER BLACKMAIL RATES–GUARANTEED”

  3. If you’re thick enough to wave the sausage at a random stranger on t’internet, you’re thick enough to totally ignore any and all warnings from the NCA…

  4. criminals use fake identities to befriend victims online before persuading them to perform sexual acts in front of their webcam.

    What? They do what?!

    Possible solutions:

    1. Don’t perform sexual acts to strangers in front of a webcam.
    2. Don’t perform sexual acts in front of a webcam.
    3. Don’t have a webcam (my preferred option).

  5. Bloke in North Dorset

We humans do seem to have a built in self destruct streak, some more than others as with most traits.

Sadly that also extends to believing politicians and allowing prodnoses to to take over our lives.

  6. ‘criminals use fake identities to befriend victims online’

Hmmm . . . like whom? Who is it whose name would work? Bill Clinton? Kirit from India?

  7. There is a problem here, though: guys increasingly expect women to share nude photos with them, and if they refuse…well, there are plenty of girls who will. I get the impression it’s the modern day equivalent of a girl refusing to give blowjobs: she’s going to come under a lot of pressure to do so, her friends will all be doing it and telling her it’s normal, and if she continues to resist she will start losing out.

I’m fairly sure this has come about, as I have blathered on about before, because feminists decided women should take on the worst aspects of youthful men by getting drunk and shagging around and are now surprised to find men treat them like shit. I have no idea what the solution is, but I don’t think this problem is as widespread in somewhere like France.

I might be talking shite, though.

  8. And not logging into the internet, or talking to strangers, etc. isn’t going to work: that’s where couples meet these days. It’s not so much the issue of abstaining from doing stuff, it’s the age-old problem of making sure you’re not doing it with an asshole. Men can be very persuasive, especially with young women.

The original story was about four blokes topping themselves, wasn’t it?

  10. Tim N–A woman giving head doesn’t –hopefully–provide evidence for a local-all-the-way-to-potential-International humiliation however. And the female suckee would be in some sort of actual, physical relationship–not performing for Mr Tex Fantasy.

  11. A woman giving head doesn’t –hopefully–provide evidence for a local-all-the-way-to-potential-International humiliation however.

No, but the dynamic is the same: a guy persuading a girl to do something she doesn’t want to by making her feel childish or inferior if she doesn’t, and her friends telling her it is normal – which it is becoming increasingly so.

But then again, photographic evidence of a girl naked might become no more devastating to a woman as a guy going around saying she gives head on the first night: something that would have been utterly shameful two generations ago. The more sharing explicit photos becomes normal, the less devastating explicit photos will become. I think why it seems devastating to us on here is we grew up in the age when digital cameras didn’t exist. Kids growing up with iPhones and snapchat will see a lot more of this sort of stuff, and it will become normal.

  12. “perform sexual acts in front of their webcam”

    There are no words…

The sympathy meter is stuck on zero for this one.

  13. It can’t play both ways Tim. If the Age of it all hanging out has arrived then where’s the leverage for blackmail?

Also these are fake identities that hide the blackmailers. F2F, in the heat of passion, foolish moves could be made etc.

However chumps of whatever sex are sending nudie shots to people they have never set eyes on let alone touched. Is there any conceivable way that any sane person who still cares enough about their public face to be vulnerable to threats of exposure could be persuaded to send nudie shots to –what amounts to–a fictional character who could be anyone/anywhere?

  14. If the Age of it all hanging out has arrived then where’s the leverage for blackmail?

We’re in a transition I think: give it time.

However chumps of whatever sex are sending nudie shots to people they have never set eyes on let alone touched.

Well, I know women who can’t believe other women go home and fuck some guy they’ve just met and don’t know. Hell, I showed a Russian woman – no prude she – an episode of one of the low-class MTV reality shows and she was horrified. But I had to tell her that even middle-class girls from good homes do one-night stands in the UK, if the conditions are right and the guy is persuasive enough.
