Scores of migrants were arrested on suspicion of working illegally in the UK during a crackdown targeting nail bars.
Almost 100 people, including migrants from Vietnam, Mongolia and Ghana, were detained during a week-long operation last month. Fourteen migrants were identified as being at risk of modern slavery, including one 18-year-old youth found working illegally in Edinburgh.
Wonder if they’ll find those 100,000 enslaved Vietnamese women working as prostitutes?
Can’t recall who the hell it was but didn’t we actually have a minister claiming that at one point?
I can imagine the conversations….
“OK. Fair cop. I am an illegal immigrant”.
“Right then, we will deport you”.
OR
“Poor me. I have been trafficked ”
“Oh No! Poor you. Would you like some sympathy? And a cup of tea? And a house?
Does it really matter which one it was? They are all equally moronic and/or venal.
Fourteen migrants were identified as being at risk of modern slavery, including one 18-year-old youth found working illegally in Edinburgh.?
At risk? So none of them was trafficked, right? Because they worst they could say was that they were at risk. And if the youngest mentions was 18, it means none of them were children.
People wonder why no one trusts the media. Lying scroats.
You are, of course, taking the piss Tim. As you well know it was the Daft Cow in Leopard-Prints herself. Our own dear Prime Minister.
@AndrewC
Oh, indeed.
A few years back, a West End agency runs Thai hookers got turned over. Much media reporting of poor trafficked girls forced into prostitution under duress yadda yadda yadda. The same agency was back in business, the same week, running the same girls, under a different name.
The reality check? Some of the apartment the chicks worked out of were Queensway/Bayswater. On our patch. We did repairs/services on some of the apartments. I knew quite a lot of the girls ( & great fun they were). They were hot-to-trot Thai hookers, over for the dosh. But they were all on tourist/student visas. WTF do you expect them to put on their visa applications? & WTF do you expect them to be telling Plod when he’s planted his size 12’s on their shagpile rug?
@SMFS,
They do the “at risk” thing all the time.
“People at risk of poverty skyrockets from 17.3% to 17.6% under tories” kind of thing.
BiG: They do the “at risk” thing all the time.
This morning BBC was leading on a Public Health England confection about people between 40 and 60 being “at risk”.
This is very encouraging for the over-60s but that aside, does anyone believe this stuff anymore? Has the BBC moved into a post-news era?
Ah, Those 100,000 Vietnamese manicurists, who could forget. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/aug/20/nail-bars-slavery-trafficking-vietnam (The redacted version)
Not sure what it says about Vietnam’s view of Britain, or indeed British nails. lol
‘modern slavery’
Modern?
I’m getting too old to reach my toe-nails to trim them, is a nail bar the answer?
