One too far even for Maduro

With protests rocking his unpopular government, embattled President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday pushed back to next month taking Venezuela’s highest denomination bill out of circulation.

Mr Maduro, who spoke after a meeting with administration officials, said he also would keep the borders with Brazil and Colombia closed until January 2.

It’s that closed borders thing with socialists. Not wanting to let people out…..

No, no ,no, no, no Tim. Left -wing governments only build walls to prevent their countries being invaded by envious Yankee imperialists.

Indeed. History’s great walls were not built to keep people out, but to keep people in.

  3. Great Wall of China?

Theory I saw somewhere said that the wall wasn’t to keep the Mongol hordes out, but to make it too much hassle to carry their loot back with them so they would think twice about bothering to invade.

Of course, that could all be bollocks 🙂

  4. Not necessarily, BiW. A wall wouldn’t be much of an impediment to men. But it would to horses. To bring their horses they’d have to take one of the strongpoints protected the gates. Without horses they’re restricted in mobility & vulnerable to much more mobile defenders. But taking a strongpoint would take time. Time the defenders could use to reinforce the defences.

I almost wish Maduro had stuck to his guns. Nothing is going to happen in Venezuela without the former supporters of the government decisively turning on it, and confiscating what little wealth they have might have been the catalyst to get that moronic bus driver and his vile cabal lined up against a wall and machine-gunned until they exploded.

I find that one a bit difficult to believe. You really don’t want the enemy getting behind your main defensive line and running riot amongst your lightly defended support and logistics lines. Also, as it’s very difficult to defend yourselves when the hordes are returning as your now the wrong side of the wall.

Highest denomination note? Isn’t it worth about 15 cents?

Venezuela clearly needs one of those Antifaschistischer Schutzwalls.
