The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced today that its laboratory analysis found inconsistent amounts of belladonna, a toxic substance, in certain homeopathic teething tablets, sometimes far exceeding the amount claimed on the label. The agency is warning consumers that homeopathic teething tablets containing belladonna pose an unnecessary risk to infants and children and urges consumers not to use these products.
Homeopathy– – you’re supposed to use smaller amounts.
To be fair, going on the quality of OFFICIAL HEALTH WARNINGS! it’s quite possible the offending substance is in homeopathic quantities.
“Toxicity is in the dose.” – Steve Milloy, junkscience.com
In homeopathy, too much stuff => underdose.
Plus, its ‘like cures like’ – if this shit worked these kids would end up immune to the stuff.
Inconceivable!
Gamecock: Steve Milloy might have said that, but Paracelsus said it first.
Personally, I don’t much care if they put belladonna, strychnine, thallium sulphate, batrachotoxin or californium-249 in homoeopathic medicines. People who are fuckwitted enough to take them deserve it.
If you toast the tablets will they give you cancer?
BiCR,
Agreed, but do their children deserve it?
BiND: better safe than sorry.
So they are warning people because this lot of homeopathy medicine has actually active levels of drugs in them?
So this is how they can sometimes claim that homoeopathy works; a good dose of hallucinogens in the tablets. It should indeed stop children complaining about teething pains.

Whatever happened to dipping their dummy or a parents’ finger in to a glass of brandy? Much less fuss.
Or Gripe Water
BAN PLACEBOS !!!
. . . even though they are 38% effective.
Chris,
We got gripe water in Cyprus in the mid ’80s for our son and it was the full strength stuff as well, but still not as good as dad’s finger dipped in brandy and spread on his gums.
We did find that kalamari rings were quite good during the day, he would spend hours contently gumming one to death, but would never take a dummy.
“People who are fuckwitted enough to take them deserve it.”
Indeed. It’s rarely some dustman who left school with no qualifications. It’s people like Doctor Caroline Lucas. Born with a silver spoon in her mouth, privately educated, yet a total fuckwit.
“Steve Milloy might have said that, but Paracelsus said it first.”
Milloy has a better website than Paracelsus.
