This morning’s reasons for thinking 2017 may be the year recession returns

I’m just wondering how many years it has been that Ritchie has been forecasting another crash.

The point being that we get one every 7-9 years on average – at least, a recession – and I’m sure he’s been predicting it that long already.

  1. Nah, the whingeing left think we’ve been in a permanent recession since 2008. We can’t have another one now since the last one hasn’t finished yet.

  2. His reasoning is all leftist cockrot but a stopped clock etc.

The collosal amounts of govt and private debt and the misallocation of resources caused by the states antics worldwide can’t be held off forever. And leftist scum –desperate to keep things going under their shite rule– have no reason to keep things going under Trump/Brexit. The consequences of their leftist evil and economic bungling arriving at the time their –at least partial–enemies are in office would suit them mightily.

  3. I can find this from February 2010:

“Double-dip recession fears: we need the Green New Deal more than ever

    POSTED ON FEBRUARY 26 2010”

Frankly I can’t bring myself to endure the beastly self-regard of his blog any more, so I shall recuse myself from the search

  4. Displaying the usual lack of awareness, some of those outcomes that he is supposedly worried about are things he would actually approve of.

    Lower house prices
    Less consumption
    Greater barriers to international trade
    A reduction in consumer credit
A fall in stock markets, hurting the rich n stuff

Quite how Italian banks bringing down the Euro is an issue for somebody who was so keen in staying in the Euro pans out I don’t get ? Why do you want us to suffer Ritchie ? Why ? Why are you such a vengeful God ?

And BREXIT uncertainties hitting other economies, not just the UK ?

He truly moves in mysterious ways.

  5. I once tried pointing out to the Murphatollah that his predictions of recessions had not come to pass. He denied that he made such predictions, and he deleted my subsequent posts providing evidence that he had.

I do not run this blog as a forum for neoliberal hard-right posters to criticise or undermine the points I make. You will not be posting here again.

    ‘Wise men agree with me’

    ‘yet you ignore that’

‘That is your last contribution here’

  8. Accounts for TRUK still not filed. What is he trying to hide?

Accounts for the LLP he has with Colin Hines were filed on 31 December and show £0 and £297 in the bank. I thought they did a paid report in 2015/16.

  9. Mal Reynolds (Serenity)

I think we could feasibly face a situation where Article 50 or something Trump-related trigger a 2017 recession but won’t be the actual underlying causes of it, which is more likely to be due to something like asset/housing bubbles that have been fuelled by 8 years of minimal interest rates, another EU crisis or something else. Of course we will get the usual crowd attributing absolutely everything to Brexit etc. It will be a tough year to keep pushing on through and make sure we win.

  10. On a quick search he seems to have been in recession about 25 times since we last had one.

IT is like an immortal cow with phantom pregnancies.

  11. I know Brexit hasn’t happened yet, but the UK’s run of economic good news is seems to be more and more “real”.

Is it possible that the UK is increasingly seen as Europe’s safe haven, one step removed from the horribly unpredictable EU?

Clearly it’s still too early to judge, but it does feel like there’s something stirring.

  12. “Noel Scoper
Accounts for TRUK still not filed. What is he trying to hide?”

Accounts for The Fair Tax Mark Limited for 2015 have been filed but are not published on FTM’s website.

What are they trying to hide?

  13. speaking of the Fair Tax Mark I’m looking to buy some cheap-ish stereo kit at the moment; I was going to give my money to Richer Sounds until I saw they’d signed up to the FTM. Suspect it’ll be SuperFi then

  14. Meanwhile two not entirely unexpected quotes from Murphy today:

    “I feel a blog coming…”

    and

“I am in the mood for preparing lists”

  15. I get the impression if anything the UK economy is doing a bit too well. Its increasingly hard to find tradesmen to do anything around here except at ludicrous pay rates. I severely doubt that there will be a recession in 2017, the big drop in the pound will be providing a good deal of stimulus as the year progresses – it takes time for the effects of such a drop to work through into the real economy, we would have seen all the benefits yet by far.

  16. Cheers Noel.

“The tax losses carried forward which are available to set against future profits are £28,375.”

potentially scandalous here as FTM Ltd could make profits of £28,000 in the next year AND PAY NO TAX!!!!!!!

  17. Peak Ritchie on his latest UBI post :

‘I dislike direction. And I think that to compel work denies the value that can be created in so many other ways’

‘I am a liberal …… and I trust people. Trusted people do the right thing, by and large’

Has he ever read anything he’s ever written ?

  18. Worzel

I saw that – the idea that he ‘trusts people’ is comical. Not only can he not sense check his own blog (that’s self evident from even reading 10 entries at random) but in the Courageous State itself (which Tim threw down after the intro – a reaction I imagine many on here would share) there are about 50 advocated restrictions on what people can and can’t do and these are just random ideas in one section of the book. I don’t know if there is a clinical term for a total lack of self-awareness or complete inability to recognise any limitations on one’s capability but a psychiatrist could use him as a case study….
