This is interesting

Michael Flynn, Donald Trump’s national security adviser, has resigned from his post after less than one month in office following reports that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Russia.

The standard political move is to blow smoke, deny that there’s a problem and then, when someone does eventually go, deny there ever was a problem.

Here we seem to have “Yup, Mike, that was a fuck up. Goodbye”

I wonder if this rather businesslike attitude toward failure is going to be a constant theme?

Bloody well hope so. This story will be dead by Friday. The other option would have kept it alive for a week or two.

  2. Such a refreshing change from the likes of Mandelson and others who hang on with a death grip. Let’s hope it carry’s on in a similar way. You bugger up then off you go, it’ll focus minds.

  3. Despite everything we will read over the next 2 days, this story has been handled well. As Confused Old Misfit says, it has been killed off instead of being allowed to run and run.

However, the interesting thing for me here is that he went after misleading MIKE PENCE. His hands seem to be on everything after the original appoientry has been made by Trump. As time moves on and Trump’s eyes wander who will in reality be the real president?

  4. So Much For Subtlety

He lied to the boss. Well, the vice-boss. Got to go.

Trump has done well because he has ignored the media outrage machine. They scream and he laughs at them. I hope he is not changing his ways. Because if the media smells weakness they will be like a shoal of pirana.

The charitable view is that they won’t stand for lying and incompetence.

The uncharitable view is that nobody else can hog the front pages, they’re Trumps’ domain.

    I’m in the charitable camp.

  6. That’s a shame, he was one of the more sensible ones. Definitely looks like Pence is going to be effectively co-president. That’s even more of a shame as he’s a theocrat to the core.

  7. “Definitely looks like Pence is going to be effectively co-president. That’s even more of a shame as he’s a theocrat to the core.”

If you’ve got to have a theocrat in charge I’ll take a Christian one over any other type, Christianity being the religion of ‘turn the other cheek’ and ‘love thy neighbour as thyself’, rather than ‘Kill the infidel!’.

  8. Yep, Trump’s main skill is being ruthless about firing underperformers. Washington has never seen anything like it.

  9. Isn’t the key question who is doing the leaking? There is a lot of leaking going on – eg about Trump’s call with the Aussie PM and now this. Who was hacking Flynn’s phone calls? On what authority? It looks as if the NSA is totally untrustworthy/unTrumpworthy.

  10. Or else someone has declared publically that the US listen to Kislyak’s phone. OK so we all know that the US monitors Ambassadors’ and Chancellors’ phones but you are not supposed to declare it in public. I hope whichever agency is involved is ready: this could be the mother of all shit storms. SMFS is probably tooling up already.
