One Tory source told BuzzFeed News this final comment relates to Google and Facebook’s growing dominance of the advertising market, which the newspaper industry believes is crushing its business model. The source suggested that if the web giants failed to act voluntarily then they could be forced by legislation to find ways to financially compensate traditional news producers.

Ain’t going to happen. Unless someone can name the “Tory source”, I’d never trust such statements. Manifestos are full of bullshit. Unless you hear the Prime Minister herself, or one of the people in one of the top jobs saying that they’re going to do it, or it has a specific claim, you can’t believe it.
Here’s what it’s about it:-

I find it increasingly hard to tell the difference between Tess’s Tories and Late NuLabour.
I wouldn’t mind paying for ad-free access to newspaper sites, but every paper expects me to sign up individually to their site which means I’d end up having to manage a dozen or so subscriptions at £5 a month each. Screw that.
If I could sign up to one site and get ad-free access across the board (including Forbes, hint, hint) then I’d probably do that.
