The Dakota Access pipeline leaked 84 gallons of oil in South Dakota early last month, which an American Indian tribe says bolsters its argument that the pipeline jeopardises its water supply and deserves further environmental review.
2 barrels. I’m only surprised they didn’t say 672 pints. Or perhaps nearly 11,000 ounces* would be scarier?
* Yes, only 16 fl oz to the American pint. And the fl oz is a different size too.
84 gallons of an entirely benign, bio-degradable, 100% natural crude oil. Basically just concentrated, pressure cooked compost heap run off.

I wouldn’t be surprised if my 1960s Landrover has leaked 80 odd gallons of oil over it’s career, but I’m unaware of any particular reason to believe that has lead to a great deal of environmental ruin…
Landrovers don’t leak – they’re just marking their territory.
