UK median household income is around £25k a year.

Mean UK household tax bill is around £25k a year.

If you were to gloss over the difference in the two averages……

Nah, fuck it, hang the tax eaters.

  1. Ladies and Gents, Richard Murphy is now an FAIA (Hon)

    On the TRUK blog…
“The honorary members’ reception was held to welcome 28 new honorary members into the association. New honorary members included Robert Peston, Political Editor ITV News; The Rt. Hon. Dame Margaret Hodge, MP; and Prof. Richard Murphy of City, University of London and Tax Research LLP.”

He’s forgotten the link to the press release, so here it is:

“The honorary members’ reception was held to welcome 28 new honorary members into the association. New honorary members included Robert Peston, Political Editor ITV News; The Rt. Hon. Dame Margaret Hodge, MP; and Mr Graham Hambly, Publisher at PQ Magazine.”

Naughty, naughty Richard, editing your name into the quote on your blog.

  2. He really is a pompous little turd isn’t he.

Anyone want to bet he wrote his own bio on that aia site?

  3. Income tax, NICs and VAT raise almost two-thirds of current tax receipts. The top 10% of earners (6% of the adult population) contribute 59% of income tax; the bottom half of income tax payers account for less than 10% of income tax receipts. Unfortunately there’s no breakdown of NICs. On the latest figures available, only 4% of individuals leave an inheritance tax liability, and 70% of that comes from estates in excess of £1m. While tax receipt other than income tax are more opaque, the top half of households (based on income) are believed to account for 78% of total receipts. The probability that any household in the bottom half (income wise) would ever pay £25k is of course fanciful; they enjoy lifestyles well beyond their means.

  4. @Noel

It seems that there may be more than one version of the press release. According to Murphy.

  5. The AIA is even more of a laughing stock in the profession than CIMA, which is very much the bottom of the pile of the Institutes. The AIA is merely an association, unable to award chartered status, I believe

  6. As an aside, the AIA has about 9,500 full members in the entire world. The ICAEW, the professional body that refuses to recognise Ritchie’s genius, has nearly 150,000 in England and Wales. This is like when Corbyn fans started announcing that he’d won The Gandhi Prize, which is nothing to do with Mahatma Gandhi at all

The lying shit is actually 100% correct, technically.

    Well done.

I’m sure I read somewhere that Graham Hambly has also been made a member. Do you have a link to the aiaworldwide press release so I can check?

    Thanks

    He has been

I was in his company this afternoon

I don’t think he’s referred to in my press release

I suspect it came out in a number of varieties

    Richard

He simply means “his” press release, the one right there on his blog..:) And which is – word for word – identical to AIA’s except for the substitution of Mr Hambly for himself.

How can anyone be so grotesquely inadequate?

  8. The Meissen Bison

Well, Timmy, I liked this post which picked up on a good point raised earlier by someone elsewhere on your blog.

That said, the interventions by Noel Scoper and others subsequently have brightened my evening and yours too, I hope.

  9. It is interesting that his bio on the AIA site doesn’t call him a tax expert. It’s as if not even they would consider him an expert

He has been described by the Guardian newspaper as an anti-poverty campaigner and tax expert

  10. It’s also interesting that they refer to him as “Mr” Murphy in that list and his fake PR says “Prof”.

Interesting that his very first act on induction is to falsify a press release from the institution he just joined.

  11. Since when does anyone crow about being an honorary member of anything? It’s often awarded so the organisation can benefit by being associated with the name (see Peston, Hodge the Dodge). Or as a reward for services rendered without actually paying you.

  12. “He has been described by the Guardian newspaper as an anti-poverty campaigner and tax expert”

Specifically: anti-poverty for retired accountants currently living in Ely campaigner, isn’t it?

  13. are the “out of shape incompetents” he refers to in todays post about economists by any chance related to the out of shape incompetents referred to in his post of yesterday?

I’m told some of the canapes were

    I’m on a diet

My doctor reckons there’s just too much of me”
