The things people will complain about

“Facebook is not introducing people to open internet where you can learn, create and build things,” said Ellery Biddle, advocacy director of Global Voices. “It’s building this little web that turns the user into a mostly passive consumer of mostly western corporate content. That’s digital colonialism.”

Very limited and free internet access is digital colonialism.

Where’s that sodding gallows when you need it?

Pointless senior role in useless organisation. The epitome of the modern economy.

  2. Total horseshit. Anyone can add a website to Facebook Basics if they follow the participation guidelines:

“Services should not use VoIP, video, file transfer, or photos larger than 200 KB.”

and there’s some technical guidelines about the site working if javascript is switched off, which makes sense if you’re trying to deliver things to people with machines with limited capacity. Doesn’t mean you can’t use Javascript, but the site should work without it.

  3. Completely off-topic, but the BBC is now encouraging people to identify as mermaids:

‘I always wanted to be a mermaid’
“Like most young girls growing up, I always wanted to be a mermaid,” says reigning Miss Mermaid UK, 25-year-old Grace Page, from Reading.

“Today’s society is such a varied and colourful place; everyone wants to be able to express themselves in their own unique way.

“I like being a mermaid because it is something that I have always thought of myself as,” says Miss Mermaid Berkshire, 33-year-old Gina Coyle. “When I was younger I was always a mermaid in the bath and I had an Ariel Barbie doll I adored, and it is something I have never grown out of.

At least they aren’t doing any permanent damage.

Well, Ellery Biddle (why do these people all have SUCH CUNTING STUPID NAMES? For fuuuuuuuuck’s sake. God, they drive me up the proverbial) if you don’t like Facebook’s restrictions, then fuck off and build your own platform. No-one’s stopping you, except if it gets too popular, then Euro politicians will shake you down, and cunts like Mongbat and Spud will say you shouldn’t obey the law and pay the taxes you owe.
