Interesting Paul most interesting

Until the centre-left learns to break with the logic of neoliberalism, and to construct an economic model that subordinates market forces to human needs, it will continue failing.

People have been trying this for a few centuries now, No one’s found one. Got any ideas?

No, real ideas, how you’re going to replace what markets do, not some cheap rhetoric.

  1. Bloke in North Dorset

In the West the new liberal market has, by and large, provided human needs, it’s now providing human wants.

  2. So Much For Subtlety

Markets are not abstract objects. They are not external physical realities like the planet Venus. They are simply places where people come to express their needs and desires. With prices.

By definition they are subordinate to human needs because without a human need, there is no market. There is no market in transplanting hearts in Sumatran tigers for instance because Sumatran tigers do not come to the marketplace often enough with a liquid enough position.

What he means is that markets ought to be involved in taking money from some people and giving it to other people. Which is a very different matter.

  3. As SMFS says. Who the fuck does Paul Mason think creates market forces? trolls? Unicorns?

And what the fuck has the rise of the AfD got to do with neoliberalism (whateverthefuck that is) anyway?

Handwringing left-wing do-gooder policies let in a huge number of migrants which pissed people off so the answer is to lurch further to the left? So that the pissed-off people come to their senses when they realise how wonderful socialism is?

It’s ironic that ‘simplistic’ has three syllables. There should be a short single syllable word to describe these people. Oh, wait, there is. Cunts.

  4. As SMFS says. Who the fuck does Paul Mason think creates market forces? trolls? Unicorns?

Those who wish to organise the economy as a conspiracy – their conspiracy – find it comforting to believe that is is already run as a conspiracy. Cos to accept markets are an example of spontaneous order would mean that they would have to recognise that they want to act against nature, effectively.

  5. Who the fuck does Paul Mason think creates market forces?

    Cigar-chomping white men. It’s a FACT!

Paul Mason is a Good Guy, he just wants to make you neoliberals wake up and smell the glove coffee.

  6. — “…to break with the logic of neoliberalism, and to construct an economic model that subordinates market forces to human need”

By which he means break with the logic of freedom and replace it with coercion, ultimately enforced at the point of a gun.

All controlled by a Committee for Public Safety which – by definition – wields dictatorial power: and staffed by people like, well, people like Paul and his mates, who know what’s better for you than you do yourself.

The fact that the most evil people of the last century all agreed on the need to “break with the logic of neoliberalism and to construct an economic model that subordinates market forces to human need” doesn’t appear to daunt him in the least. And with those sorts of people, it never does.

  7. ” construct an economic model that subordinates market forces to human need””

If he wasn’t ideologically blinkered, he’d know already that market forces *are* subordinated to human need. He might not like the way it expresses itself, but I’m sure he’d like the alternative even less if he had to live under it.

  8. Let’s play Paul Mason’s Word Salad

Neoliberal Austerity Justice Elite Tories Right Hard Far Cuts Services Public Brexit Social Thatcher Disenfranchised Corbyn Rich

I think if you augmented this list to reach about 100 words you could get a vocabulary that could completely cover every article Mason has ever written, and will ever write.

  9. ‘an economic model that subordinates market forces to human needs’

Starring Mel Gibson, Joanne Samuel, and Hugh Keays-Byrne.
