Battling climate change is a once-in-a-century chance to build a fairer and more democratic economy.
You’re seeing climate change as an opportunity to usher in the revolution. The rest of us see it as just one more problem that needs to be solved so that we can carry on.
And some of us see it as the Red Trojan Horse it always was. There is no reason to think that Climate Change exists, or if it does exist it is a significant problem.
It is just an excuse for the Marxists to Marx.
Like Wot SMFS says.
SMFS – I hope you mean man made climate change… There is loads of evidence to back up climate change in general, it’s what the earth does…
Now the claim that we are causing all the bad bits to happen – it’s possible, in the same way as it’s possible it’s just normal cyclic change…
SMFS: “There is no reason to think that Climate Change exists…”
Apart from the obvious. Climate changes. No-one can really dispute that.
It’s man-made climate change that’s disputed!
— “…and more democratic economy.”
In other words, replacing the personal economic decisions of millions of free individuals with mob-rule.
To the Left, “increased democracy” means bringing ever more aspects of people’s lives under political control.
BiC, JuliaM. I think you’ll find that the UN definition of,”Climate Change”, refers only to the man-made element. Even though that is a very minor forcing in the climate. According to UN-funded climastrologists, humanity’s use of fossil fuels is responsible for all the negative effects that climate has on mankind.
SMFS said it.
To Hell with all eco-freak Marxian scum.
I believe Ms Klein is on record as saying that even if CAGW isn’t true she would still be advocating the end of capitalism.
CAGW is just a useful false flag in this case.
I don’t dispute climate change, nor even man-made climate change.
Where I differ from the Green Trots is exactly as Timmy says: there are specific problems which need mitigating (e.g. sea level rises, desertification); but they require specific solutions, not a total restructuring of the global economy.
SMFS,
“And some of us see it as the Red Trojan Horse it always was. There is no reason to think that Climate Change exists, or if it does exist it is a significant problem.”
I think it exists. But I’d be willing to place a sizeable bet that it isn’t that big a problem.
Here’s a question: what’s the behaviour we would expect from greedy capitalists if climate change is a real threat? For example: have wine producers in the Medoc started falling in value due to the fact that in 50-100 years, they’ll be too dry for grape production? Are beach houses falling in value as they’ll be underwater?
@Bloke on M4
To be fair, there isn’t a huge difference between a perpetuity and a 100-year annuity because of how the discounting works. So even an informed, rational, forward-looking investor may not care too much about negative consequences a hundred years hence, but we probably want governments to.
See also the modern Public Health movement, another false flag attack in the fight for State totalitarian control over everyone’s lives.
Mankind can change the climate?
They will be saying next he can stop the tides… Canute call your office.
@B o M4
“Are beach houses falling in value as they’ll be underwater?”
I believe Al Gore owns quite a bit of beachfront property so he’s clearly not worried.
“there are specific problems which need mitigating (e.g. sea level rises, desertification)”
Sea level rise has been constant for 100 years. That needs mitigation?
Are you aware that the Sahel is encroaching on the Sahara?
Climate Change is devoid of facts. It is a hoax. A hoax that a surprisingly large number of people believe. Many study papers will be produced in future decades as to how the people could have been duped.
A key is that people are the same today as they were a hundred years ago, and a thousand years ago. We want to think we are different, but we’re not. Hitler would have duped us as well had we been there. We would have helped kill the Romanovs. We would have cheered the guillotine.
To the Left, “increased democracy” means bringing ever more aspects of people’s lives under political control.
Yup. As Plato observed, democracy (unless qualified and limited) turns into tyranny.
Democracy is a good thing (like wine), but you can have too much of it (like wine).
The Left doesn’t believe in democracy. They use the word because YOU do.
Naomi Klein?
Marxist princess with harridan issues – the mere fact that the Guardian fawn massively over her confirms what you need to know.
