Yes, yes, they are and good thing too

Taxpayers are picking up the tab for white nationalists’ ‘free speech’ rallies
Security for Richard Spencer’s latest speech will cost half-a-million dollars.

That’s what government is for isn’t it?

To protect the civil liberties of the people against those who would deny them?

No they are not. They are picking up the tab for the Leftist street thugs’ intolerance.

Spencer could speak and it would not hurt anyone. On the other hand the thugs’ intervention makes police protection necessary. As it would be necessary if it was a White Nationalist speaking, or a Christian preacher or a member of the Liberal Democratic party.

The problem is not the speech but the thuggery and anything else is blaming the victim.

    Nota bene the scare quotes.

Is it not free speech when idiots like Spencer do it, or something?

  3. dearieme,

but it is blaming the victim. If the police were not there, he really would be a victim.

  4. I went to see the EDL when they came to Blackburn. The police sent one copper for every demonstrator and then spent the next few weeks complaining to anyone who would listen that the event cost taxpayers a whole heap of money
I think they overdo it on purpose, just so they can moan. And maybe have these demos banned

So if a girl wears a miniskirt she is asking to be raped?

I think I should be able to leave my wallet in plain sight in my car.

Spencer is harming no one. He is giving a speech that everyone would ignore if the political-media Establishment did not make such a big deal of it. He is not asking for anything except obscurity.

  6. It probably saved the taxpayer quite a lot of money in not paying to investigate the murders that would otherwise probably ensue (unless the cops don’t investigate the murder of these types now, which isn’t unthinkable) and in increased costs associated with all the burned down and looted trainer stores.

Yes, you should – but don’t expect the insurance company to pick up the tab for your casual negligence.
Spencer is asking for publicity generated by the idiotis lefties just as Mosley was asking for publicity from the lefties physically attacking his “peaceful” marches through the East End.

“So if a girl wears a miniskirt she is asking to be raped?”

No, not asking. But if she takes a stroll through a favela, she has been negligent about her own safety. No?

Likewise, if you leave your door wide open all night, don’t complain when you are burgled, because your negligence contributed to your victimhood. And so on.

Contributory negligence doesn’t lessen the criminal offence, but it does diminish any claim against insurance companies – or the state for failing to maintain public order. Ditto leaving your wallet highly visible in your car (which is just daft and dumb).

I agree with you about Richard Spencer, completely. Like dearieme, I was objecting to your reference to victim-blaming – which had me reaching for the sick-bag.

john77 – “Yes, you should – but don’t expect the insurance company to pick up the tab for your casual negligence.”

It is a sign of the slow boiling-the-frog decline of Britain that you think that is negligence. I think it should be normal and safe behaviour.

“Spencer is asking for publicity generated by the idiotis lefties just as Mosley was asking for publicity from the lefties physically attacking his “peaceful” marches through the East End.”

Mosley’s marches were peaceful. The Communist efforts to stop them were less so. And the police did the right thing by protecting those marches. As they should with Spencer.

Theophrastus – “No, not asking. But if she takes a stroll through a favela, she has been negligent about her own safety. No?”

Because dark brown Brazilians cannot be expected to restrain themselves?

“Likewise, if you leave your door wide open all night, don’t complain when you are burgled, because your negligence contributed to your victimhood. And so on.”

It is not negligence to assume people are not thieves. I have left my door open. I have not been robbed because of it so far. I grew up in a home that never had a locked door. It is not unreasonable to think that all British people ought to be able to live that way again. The first step is to start blaming the people really responsible – the criminals.

“Like dearieme, I was objecting to your reference to victim-blaming – which had me reaching for the sick-bag.”

It is a terrible phrase. But he is the victim here.

  10. There’s a simple solution. Kill all the communists.

Then kill all the media and university ‘controllers’ who make communists. Bonus- no more Hollyweird sex scandals.

  11. Just imagine if Mosley had taken power. No Rotherham/Oxford/insert Pakistanified town scandals. No Millibands. No selling out of the Empire, then selling out to the former subjects of the Empire. No Communist oppression in E. Europe and China. Terrible, terrible, awful.

  12. Mosley post WW2 campaigned for a European Union.
Said it was the British destiny to lead that Union.
    Got that wrong too.

  13. Paul Rain–You are right about the problems but your solution is not a solution.

All forms of socialism are the problem never the solution.

  14. “They are picking up the tab for the Leftist street thugs’ intolerance.”

Actually i think they are picking up the Tab for their own political machinations. Antifa et al are complete cowards ; if they can’t wear their masks (identifiable) and the Police arrest them (sanctions) they fall apart.

The colossal costs occur because they are encouraged by not being effectively challenged by the Police. They can go about masked, they can riot and beat people up and nothing happens. (This has noticeably changed).

Not the fault of the Police who want to do their job but aren’t allowed to.

  15. @ SMFS
I do not think your car should be burgled *but* the insurance company observes that it is a higher risk if you leave stuff where thieves can see it. So, regardless of my opinion, they exclude that from their policy cover unless you pay extra – a lot extra – to cover that risk.
Mosley was wrong but he was not naive and stupid as you seem to assume. He was confident that the communist thugs would attack his march and he wanted them to do so.

  16. I often wonder when ‘police costs’ are bandied about, whether they include the sunk costs of employing the coppers in the first place. Or, do they just include the extra costs of coppers working extra shifts/overtime to cover marches and speeches? I am pretty sure the coppers know nothing about the concept of opportunity costs. How many extra burglars or cannabis smokers might have been caught if they didn’t have to monitor Spencer’s speech? Very few I suspect. BTW, I don’t think people like Spencer make speeches to remain in obscurity. Quite the opposite perhaps?
