Can we leave yet?

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has long faced United States sanctions over his government’s human rights abuses. But the World Health Organization’s new chief is making the longtime African leader a “goodwill ambassador.”

With Mugabe on hand, WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus told a conference in Uruguay this week on non-communicable diseases that he’d agreed to be a “goodwill ambassador” on the issue.

Tedros, an Ethiopian who became WHO’s first African director-general this year, said Mugabe could use the role “to influence his peers in his region.”

A WHO spokeswoman confirmed the comments to The Associated Press on Friday.

Erm:

Life expectancy in Zimbabwe dropped from 61 in 1985 to 44 in 2003, according to World Bank figures, largely down to the nation’s crumbling economy and widespread poverty. Life expectancy has since recovered – but is still not as high as it was in the mid-1980s

  1. Well as i have been saying for a long time and now everyone else accepts, in 1985 some people in Zimbabwe were living much longer than others. This sort of longevity inequality was a sure sign of a neoliberal economy so by greatly reducing the longevity gap through big government intervention and printing as much money as needed, far fewer people suffer the indignity of seeing their neighbours reach “age wealth” they will never themselves see.

I do not often respond to Tom’s nonsense but i must put him right on this as he has never changed the world as I have.

  2. Make it into a movie: Goodwill Cunting.

The WHO needs to be added to the UN and Climate Change “Agreement” as going to the same landfill as the EU.

  3. So Much For Subtlety

Tedros, an Ethiopian who became WHO’s first African director-general this year, said Mugabe could use the role “to influence his peers in his region.”

Alas he has been influencing his peers. Zimbabwe’s problems began when he invaded Congo.

But it is proof that the UN is just a criminal racket run by kleptocrats. Why I should be paying for his wife’s shopping trips to Hong Kong I do not know.

  4. HIV had nothing to do with it of course.

FTR: Mugabe is one of the biggest cunts ever to have lived.
