Interesting definition of optimism

Well no. Get real. This strategy has failed. Without an analysis of the “p” word, patriarchy, we remain powerless to change it. Either a) men are just naturally aggressive because of testosterone, women are passive breeders, and this is biologically determined, or b) there is a power structure in play here that can be challenged.

I am going with b) because I am an optimist. The concept of patriarchy is overarching and universalising, it is trans-historical and nowhere near cross-cultural enough.

That second paragraph is completely unhinged.

“Universalising” What does that mean? (The spell checker here doesn’t recognize it.) WTF is “trans-historical”? Not “cross-cultural enough”? I thought the feminists thought the “patriarchy” was too embedded across all cultures?

The rest of the screed is just as illiterate as this. Not to mention content free.

  2. “What connects rape in war, domestic violence and sexual harassment?”

Lying Marxist feminist bullshit spewed by vile deceitful old Marxian skanks like you Snoozanne.

  3. Either a) men are just naturally aggressive because of testosterone, women are passive breeders, and this is biologically determined, or b) there is a power structure in play here that can be challenged.

It’s as if women like Elizabeth I and Katherine the Great never existed, isn’t it?

  4. I absolutely detest such conspiracy thinking. I’m sure it’s comforting to believe that a social outcome you don’t think optimal is a conspiracy, but it means that your “solutions” involve urinating into a hurricane.

The other thing that grips my sh1t is calling things “social constructions” when they’re actually evolutionary constructions. Such as male preference for pretty ladies, and female preference for strong, healthy men.

“Such as male preference for pretty ladies, and female preference for strong, healthy men.”

Maybe we can broker a deal? We’ll start banging the uggoes when you stop elevating wealth, status, looks, physical fitness and the suchlike?

  6. Maybe she missed the staff meeting with Zoe Williams where Brexit was chucked into the mix as well?

Utter nonsense and dangerously unhinged – Really needs a long term trip to perhaps Saudi Arabia to educate her, but I am guessing she would find the very notion ‘Islamophobic’. One of the most idiotic commentators extant in print today and has been consistently so for the better part of two decades.

  7. Jordan Peterson has said patriarchy is a code word for western civilization, and I completely agree. If you don’t like my civilisation, fuck off out of it.

  8. @Hallowed Be

She’d need to have one first

    @V_P

Bet you a tenner, the outcome of her stay in Saudi would be a piece blaming either the west or Tories for Saudi being a backwards looking shithole

  9. John Square

ISIS has lost its stronghold or else I would be looking to crowdfund a campaign to have her airlifted directly into Raqqa where she cold have seen ‘real’ patriarchy!

Just sending her as a tourist to Saudi would be a waste of time. She is ineducable

  10. The truth is that, if men decided to, they could kill all the women in the world in an afternoon. Or they could subjugate them all, force them into domestic drudgery and sexual servitude etc

As it happens, some men are doing precisely that as we speak, but luckily some other men – men led by white, European-origin men from a sexist and particarchal command structure – are killing those bad men, at very great risk to their own lives, and freeing the women they are enslaving.

But those enslaved and brutalised women have not spent the last twenty years calling all men scum. I wonder, if our own western ladies were ever to need us, whether we’d actually take the attitude of ‘Fuck it, can’t be arsed. You made the bed, love, lie in it.’

    Go figure!

The concept of patriarchy is overarching and universalising, it is trans-historical and nowhere near cross-cultural enough.

It is eternal, shiny and chrome. It’s like rain on your wedding day. It’s another Tequila sunrise. It smells like Christmas. I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

Interesting that you should mention the frequency of male helping female here. I really think this has gone down. Giving a seat on a train is never done now. Women have campaigned for equality so now they have it and now they are finding out more directly what a male dominated society is like as men are more pushy and bigger when it comes to the rush for seats. Hence the “I’m pregnant” badges on the underground. Mind you this is also to differentiate the fat from the pregnant.

I am sure there are countless other examples that have led to an erosion of politeness.

  13. I wonder, if our own western ladies were ever to need us, whether we’d actually take the attitude of ‘Fuck it, can’t be arsed. You made the bed, love, lie in it.’

I expect most would, yes. Especially if they were some giant tattooed porker with facial piercings.

If that doesn’t make you laugh out loud, you know your humor bypass operation was successful.

And Suzanne, honey, do something with the hair.

“Hence the “I’m pregnant” badges on the underground. ”

And they you get a sneering, I’m not ill.

I always make a point of offering my seat to anyone who looks like they need it more than me, no matter what their attitude.

“I expect most would, yes. Especially if they were some giant tattooed porker with facial piercings.”

I’d certainly leave this one behind:

  16. “The concept of patriarchy is overarching and universalising, it is trans-historical and nowhere near cross-cultural enough.”

Wouldn’t that lend credence to the idea that its ‘built in’ to us and not to the idea that patriarchy is ‘just a power structure’?

I mean, it could be built in to us and we be self-aware enough that we could take steps to counter it anyway – that’s certainly an optimistic outlook – but that’s not what she’s saying there.

Do these people just turn in their first drafts and wait for the check to be mailed?
