The new new media

A cooperative organisation has been launched to advocate for and raise money for independent media free from state or corporate control.

The Media Fund has launched days after the BBC’s Today programme presenter Nick Robinson said alternative news sites were part of a “guerrilla war” against the BBC and other mainstream media outlets. It aims to give way to digital platforms to counteract an “old media system” dominated by broadcasters and newspapers, which it says displays a rightwing bias. It has so far partnered with 21 outlets, including Novara Media, the New Internationalist, Open Democracy and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

To partner with the fund, these outlets have to sign up to the National Union of Journalists’ code of conduct, demonstrate a commitment to factual and accurate reporting, and within a year of joining become fully unionised workplaces. New partners must be approved by existing partners, suggesting that rightwing outlets are unlikely to be selected.

It’s the factual and accurate reporting that’s going to be the problem, isn’t it? For it’s the usual groupuscules of right on lefties and it’s going to be their truths, their facts, not actual ones.

  1. So Much For Subtlety

Factual? Everything the Left believes in is based on False News. From the 78 cents in a dollar claim to copying American lies about racism in the police force to whatever nonsense they believe about the War on Terror.

    All lies.

What they mean is that they will enforce a Stalinist Group Think. If google and Microsoft don’t do it for them.

  2. Headline from link:

“Fund launched to create independent media free from rightwing bias”

Errr- the first thing I think when browsing the news isn’t actually that it’s all too damn right-wing.

  3. I’m amused when people say “OK, the opinion pieces are generally left-wing but news reporting is factual and unbiased”.

Then you read that article. Littered with “rightwing” horror, but describes the Canary as “left of centre”.

    Lol.

  4. How are they free and independent media if they become dependent on a fund (and its donors – the Moseleys of the world I suspect) for their survival.

And I am slightly surprised that if any of these organisations seeks to be taken seriously that they’d let the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, with their proven track record of not fact checking, in – even if they don’t have a principlled (ha!) objection, BIJ would surely be likely to take most of the funding to pay the legal costs from their latest bit of quality journalism….

Given the ones who have signed up, I think they mean “free and independent” in the sense that East Germany was the German Democratic Republic.

“rightwing bias”? Really? April 1 groundhog day?

The Media Fund must be left of Coybyn if they believe BBC, ITV, C4, C5, Sky, ITN are right-wing. Even DM & Telegraph are infested with CM SJWs.
