A.G. Sulzberger to Take Over as Publisher of The Times
By SYDNEY EMBER
On Jan. 1, Arthur Gregg Sulzberger, 37, will replace his father, Arthur Sulzberger Jr., who served as publisher for 25 years.
From the people who bring you complaints about the lack of social mobility, how the rich hoard the opportunities….
That’a Timmy off the short list for Thunderer rent-a-quotes. Social mobility is a sop for little people, to keep them little. The elite have what they hold onto like grim death.

Bird or Bloke?
Could be a good thing. Judging by the recent content of the NYT Sulzberger senior is woefully senile.

…she would of late
Have taught to ignorant men most violent ways,
Or hurled the little streets upon the great,
Had they but courage equal to desire?
Bird or Bloke?
Spelled with a “y” should be the former. The masculine version would be Sidney.

His answer sort of deals with one issue – socialism and modern education perhaps focusing more on the less able (?), but may be ignoring a great big potential elephant. How to put it politely: “changing demographics”?
“SYDNEY EMBER” is an abbreviation of “Is’n he embarrassing”.
PF:
Interesting: thanks. Socialist pedagogy + immigration from the thicker parts of the world = falling average IQ. I’d never have guessed…
When it comes to nepotism you can’t beat the Left.

Good grief PCar, you don’t expect me to actually read it, do you?
Anyway, that might be a mere ruse; who knows what she may choose to identify as next week?
PF; interesting, I think that may be the research that Flynn was reported as working on earlier this year – someone posted a link to a Telegraph story – in August or September? – suggesting the Flynn effect had come to a grinding halt in 14 year olds in the UK.
(And Theo) I’m not sure about the demographics necessarily being a primary issue with this; the abstract is here https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160289617302787, but I’m buggered if I’m spunking 36US$ on it.

Don’t get your hopes up. Sulz Sr. was stupid well before he became senile.

I thought that was Carlos Slim?

A and B shares. The A shares are publicly quoted (and Slim owns a lot of those), but the B shares are still held by the family and give the right to appoint two thirds of the directors.
Fits even better with Tim’s point; the family might allow the little people to own shares, but they’re keeping an iron grip on control and the ability to dish out jobs.

Yes, I did.
Thanks Richard.
