Lily Allen has sparked a furious Twitter backlash after claiming she is unable to move back to the London flat she owns because her tenants are claiming ‘diplomatic immunity’.
The row has seen the singer accused of ‘profiteering’ by renting out the property to wealthy foreigners instead of taking in refugees as she had previously pledged.
In the now-deleted tweet, Ms Allen wrote: ‘Meant to be moving back into my flat this week, but my tenants just dropped that they can’t find anywhere to go up to their standards.
‘Then they said they’re diplomats and have diplomatic immunity and there’s nothing I can do about it.
Unconvinced that diplomatic immunity works that way but still.
I’d love to know which country these diplomats are from. I bet there are good reasons why she’s not telling us.
I do hope so. It would be just deserts for Champagne Socialist Lil and others like her who come the old weepy bollocks over some illegal immigrant and said she would “100% bring a fuguee into her home”, then lets it to a bunch of diplomats (i.e. those that can actually afford to pay the exorbitant rental price in central Londinium)
I doubt the “diplomatic immunity” bollocks would stick either, but it probably means she has to pay lots of expensive silks to get her tenants evicted, or pay them money to leave.
Excellent stuff.

Tim Newman: Are you suggesting that they might be from one of the emirates which use money from our oil to pay women with similar morals, but considerably better looks, than Allen as ‘porta potties’?
I’d love to know which country these diplomats are from. I bet there are good reasons why she’s not telling us.
Said diplomats are probably shitting in her shower…

She can evict them for non payment of rent.
Theo: Said diplomats are probably shitting in her shower…
Do you think they’re squatting?
From what I’ve seen they haven’t stopped paying rent, just that they were given an exit date, but haven’t been able to find an appropriate property to move into.
Sure, if they stop paying rent then she could apply for an accelerated possession order (minimum time of 14 days from receipt of notice), but given the fact that they are slinging bullshit about “diplomatic immunity” around, a court case would seem inevitable which will delay this longer, especially with Christmas coming up.
If they are still paying rent then standard possession order route applies, which means that she will not get any movement until January at the earliest (unless some Judge fancies a bit of publicity / notoriety by getting involved)
All told it might be better to take the Peter Rachman approach and fill the drains with concrete and let them stew in their own muck.
Tough life being an absentee landlord, ain’t it Lily?
I was quiet sympathetic until I realised that she had called her daughters Marnie and Ethel. The pirate’s daughter one assumes.
That is child abuse right there. Still I met a Mabel the other day
If she was renting it to Gary Lineker the story would have been even better.
I don’t think they give diplomatic immunity to crisp floggers (that’s potato chips to our American cousins)
Be interesting to know which embassy / consulate they are from. I bet it’s one of those that doesn’t accept middle eastern terrorists…sorry fugees
She can evict, but it will take months. Last lot of tennants I had to evict in London, it took 9 months after they stopped paying the rent. And I would have been happy if they were shitting in the shower. It would have been an improvement over what was actually going on.
Still, couldnt happen to a more deserving person.
Somewhat off topic except for legal aspect, can someone please enlighten me as to how the court in England and Wales can impose a world wide court order?
http://www.news.com.au/world/europe/bulger-killers-identity-protection-may-have-been-breached/news-story/c6e2e2c4d983fad4a22e53f4580781bb?from=rss-basic
A court can order whatever it deems fit…enforcing it though is a different matter, since different countries will have different attitudes to an injunction issued in England and Wales.
We sometimes see this even between the England and Wales courts and the Scottish courts, especially over footballers / celebs injunctions, which is why you sometimes get stories which are banned from publication by the courts in England and Wales, whilst they are front page headlines in the Scottish newspapers.
Scottish newspaper reveals the identity of superinjunction couple
Some foreign courts might uphold an injunction from a court in England and Wales, others might not, it depends upon the circumstances.
Many would refuse to do so purely on the basis that any court issuing a worldwide injunction is explicitly attempting to interfere in the internal affairs of said foreign state.
Certainly for a lot of our former colonies the time when Brits could not be tried in local courts, but only by British courts (Canton settlement and such places) is still something of a sore point long after such practices were stopped.

UK courts can impose orders globally, but whether they will be supported in foreign jurisdictions depends on the conflict of laws (private international law) of each country. See

“Diplomatic Immunity”.
I’m picturing the scene at the eviction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwC_IaY3BmY
Not quite sure what you’re pointing at here, all I get is a “signup for free trial” blocking wall on that page and the links from it.
Ironically if someone changed the law to help landlords she would probably protest against it.
…while behind the scenes, scrabbling up every benefit and incentive that she can. Typical hypocrisy of the champagne socialist lefty’s, absolutely not surprised at all.
BED + MADE = LIE
I hope they’re South Africans.
“dee-plo-matic immunity”
I foresee a national popcorn shortage.
Bet they’re not diplomats at all, and are just playing on her unfiltered bien pensant credulity.
I hope they’re South Africans
Given the current Leftist hysteria, Russians.
On behalf of Britain I would like to apologise to these diplomats. We should do more to give them shelter. Lilly Allen’s attitude is typical of the Little Englander stance that probably just wants them stuck in the jungle at Calais.
Maybe she should sing outside the window. That’ll get them out.
TMB
“Do you think they’re squatting?”
*snigger*
BoM4: I hope they’re South Africans.
Rob: Given the current Leftist hysteria, Russians.
How about the London staff of some remote Government in exile?
The Mail reports that they are Italian.
The Mail also reports that the delay is an earth-shattering two days.
“Certainly for a lot of our former colonies the time when Brits could not be tried in local courts, but only by British courts (Canton settlement and such places) is still something of a sore point long after such practices were stopped.”
Isn’t that essentially exactly what the EU is wanting for EU citizens in the UK after Brexit?
I’m not sure “EU Citizens” is quite the right word, more like chattel slaves, which need to be under Brussels control even when resident outside the plantation.
Yessir Massa Tusk! Whatever you say boss.
@Gunker
@dearieme
Spot on. Italian and few days
Also, tenants say they did not claim “diplomatic immunity”
Who to believe – A crazy leftie sjw snowflake celeb OR an Italian Diplomat and spouse?
Hmm, difficult? Not this time: the Italian couple.
Bloke on M4.
Unless they are from Natal in which case it will be “dup-lo-matic ummunity”.
