The entire country in fact: Don’t we all look forward to him running something as complex as an economy, a country? previousBlimeynextIsn’t this a dreadful failure of tax reform? 25 thoughts on “Enter title here” abacab January 17, 2018 at 12:57 pm OT: in other news, Joylon’s been at it again: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-42707383 He’s got some NL resident Brits to front a legal challenge for him. I bet the court will say something like “there’s no tort here, on what basis are you claiming harm? Because something might happen, which is highly unlikely?” abacab January 17, 2018 at 12:59 pm Also – it’s a presumption that the Dutch government may seek to harm these people. If they really thought that the Dutch government would be capable of that, why are they there? BraveFart January 17, 2018 at 1:04 pm I got the same page when I went there to check something. How could this happen to the “number one economics blog in the UK”? Ignoring the demands for payment from the web-hosting service, or has he been neo-liberally hacked? Truly the man is an utter fvckwit. abacab January 17, 2018 at 1:05 pm @Bravefart – he probably thought the renewal reminder e-mail was spam… Van_Patten January 17, 2018 at 1:07 pm LOL – it’s the ‘Revenge of the trolls’ abacab January 17, 2018 at 1:08 pm So has Timmy registered it in the meantime? And redirected it here? 😀 Rickie January 17, 2018 at 1:30 pm Sorry but who is Ritchie and why does Tim want to give him a ragging every other day?. I know of a long standing grudge at my workplace that has lasted over a decade because of a comment (lloret de mar) by one the blokes wives to to the other wife about how a swimsuit suited her that had a skirt thing attached to it to ( more modest for bigger girls). Women don’t forget that shit. Can you give me a link to this Ritchie bloke? Andrew C January 17, 2018 at 1:48 pm Regarding the Jolyold Prawn bit….. “British barrister Jolyon Maugham QC, who is funding the legal action…” I’ll bet he isn’t. Richard January 17, 2018 at 2:23 pm abacab said: “If they really thought that the Dutch government would be capable of that, why are they there?” More to the point, if they really think the Dutch government would be capable of that, why do they want us to be in a union with them? abacab January 17, 2018 at 2:34 pm @Richard – I’ve got a friend who’s exactly the same. He was convinced that Brexit was going to cause him and his wife (both there on diplomatic status, btw, so not even under free movement treaty rights) to be deported, or his wife’s professional accreditation to be withdrawn. My thought was entirely that – why would you want anything to do with people you thought capricious enough to do that, let alone be virulently in favour of being in a union with them? Plus, given the difficulty that NL has in deporting unemployed Turkish and Moroccan nationals with criminal records, does anyone really think that the NL government would treat UK nationals in gainful employment worse? For some people, politics makes their brains fall out. Richard January 17, 2018 at 2:40 pm Rickie, Ritchie is Richard Murphy, a campaigner for more taxes. Tim doesn’t link to him because links increase a blog’s ranking which sent Murphy’s ego even higher. You’ll have to Google him. Murphy is often fairly ignorant about the topics he comments on (even tax, which he is supposedly an expert in), but on his blog he blocks people who point out his errors and insists that he is right (even when he makes a blatant factual error), so a non-specialist reader might take him seriously. Unfortunately Murphy has sometimes been listened to, particularly by the Guardian, the BBC and Corbyn, hence Tim’s public service in pointing out his errors. aaa January 17, 2018 at 2:41 pm Now his site is back up again, you can see he has a piece on “There are not enough thinkers” that refers to Michael Buble. Not even Morphy Richards could make this sort of thing up Bloke in Germany January 17, 2018 at 3:16 pm “Plus, given the difficulty that NL has in deporting unemployed Turkish and Moroccan nationals with criminal records, does anyone really think that the NL government would treat UK nationals in gainful employment worse?” Yes because (1) they are more likely to co-operate with the system than people who know the authorities are after them, (2) governments are like that. Look at the UK government, equally incapable of deporting illegal immigrants who are gaming the system (or simply disappearing) but happy to try and ship retired grannies who have lived here since they were kids back to Jamaica. Henry Crun January 17, 2018 at 3:24 pm abacab, what a bunch of fuckwits. Those people living in the NL will be protected by Dutch law and will have registered as residents. I doubt the Dutch government are going to turf out anyone legally resident and gainfully employed. We had one such Brit working with me here in the Netherlands who, when I cheered the Brexit result, asked if I was happy about turning Britain into a third world country. I merely replied “It already is, mate. Have you not been to Luton?”. jgh January 17, 2018 at 3:38 pm I lost my domain name for a few days because my name registrar decided to go out of business and sent emails to an address that didn’t exist because the email was provided by another subsidiary that had also decided to go out of business. Hint: advertised by a friendly Northern bloke. Fred Z January 17, 2018 at 4:19 pm Ha! For the first time ever, or maybe in a long time, Tim has provided a link to Mr. Potatohead. Was Tim gamed? Rickie January 17, 2018 at 4:19 pm @Richard, found him now thanks. “but on his blog he blocks people who point out his errors and insists that he is right (even when he makes a blatant factual error)” Tell me about it…..when you have a blog host and his followers that i know of, who reckon smoking is harmless and good for you…and of course has killed nobody….not only will the blog host block and ban you…the cult followers will sniff out even the slightest hint that you are not sticking to the script of the blog and go beserk. The Daily mail listened to his blog too!!….mind you that was cos of death threats to a leading anti smoking campaigner. Bloke in Costa Rica January 17, 2018 at 5:02 pm I am very annoyed that no-one took the opportunity to snake the Egregious Tuber’s domain name. Imagine how much fun we could have had. Mr Ecks January 17, 2018 at 5:18 pm Long past time Soapy was hit with a T&S. And had a nasty accident on his way to the cells. Surreptitious Evil January 17, 2018 at 7:12 pm On the other hand 1&1 are professional gits. Just to be technical here, it wasn’t a domain issue, it was a hosting one. The domain expiry date is 24 May. Surreptitious Evil January 17, 2018 at 7:16 pm Wait an effing minute. Registrant type is given as “UK Sole Trader”. This is his LLP be short changed on their legal IPR? Not to also say it’s still registered to Downham Market. Meh. Rob January 17, 2018 at 8:09 pm Can someone buy it and fill it with content advocating low taxes and free enterprise? Surreptitious Evil January 17, 2018 at 8:17 pm Rob, No. Because it isn’t a domain problem. Bloke in North Dorset January 17, 2018 at 10:06 pm I suspect he had the same problem I had. The email from 1and1 warning me my credit card was expiring wasn’t very clear and I missed it in the noise. AndrewC January 17, 2018 at 10:28 pm @BiND He also has lots of problems no-one else has.
