Freedom under law, economic freedom, personal freedom, fairness, happiness and equality of opportunity.
Is there a place for these?Reply

I am not sure anyone could flourish without them – so yesAlthough what is economic freedom?

Might be something to work out before designing an economy, no?
My defn:
Economic freedom:
– buying/selling whatever you want with no Gov’t interference
– flat rate tax
– Gov’t limited to spending 25% GDP
Good Grief.
“buying/selling whatever you want with no Gov’t interference”
That’s crazy talk! That could never work!

TMB: top hole.
Spud, like all wannabe Gauleiters, defines liberty negatively.
This is the man who believes all your wealth belongs to the State and who wants punitive consumption taxes on any standard of living above that of 1951 in Sunderland?
Might be interesting to jump on that other thing, fairness. How to define that?
I recall an attempt to sum up the difference between left and right in the fewest words.
Left: It’s not fair!
Right: Get over it.
@ Rob
In 1951 Sunderland had a higly valuable, and decently paid (by 1951 standards) shipbuilding industry – but, fortunately for its inhabitants, no part-time professors of political economy.
However I *must* disagree with you – in 1951 we had food rationing and Murphy is visibly unwilling to tolerate food rationing for part-time Professors.
Us as children: It’s not fair!
Granny: It’s not raining.
