Can you guess who is the Keeper of this Enlightened Flame?

Except, maybe, that the alternative understanding does now exist, but that the economists of the world are refusing to accept it.

  1. Could it perhaps be the same stunningly self-unaware, religious, economics academic, whose theories are the subject of almost universal ridicule, who posted this as his latest blog title:

    “Most tenured economics professors keep teaching the same simplistic, faith-based, empirically challenged models”

    You wonder if, like lower order animals, he would fail to recognise himself if he looked at his reflection in a mirror.

  2. With apologies to W. B Yeats…..

    ‘Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity’

    ‘Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Murphi
    Troubles my sight; somewhere in wilds of the Fens
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Reel shadows of indignant desert birds.
    The darkness drops again; but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Ely to be born?

  3. Not sure about the desert birds, there. Mr VP. Unless you’re referring to Birds-Eye frozen trifles. Should imagine Ely’s mostly ducks

  4. yes, real talent there VP.

    I remember us being forced to read Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe as one required text of a newly progressive book list for Scottish Schools in the 70s.

    Load of old bollocks I thought. More of a pulp fiction person myself

  5. Bis

    You are almost certainly right!!!

    I imagine even the ducks run a mile from him lest they get lectured on country by country reporting

  6. “Most tenured economics professors keep teaching the same simplistic, faith-based, empirically challenged models”

    Thank goodness that the fake Professor isn’t displaying any jealousy or personal animus to real Professors there. It’s purely business, not personal.

  7. Van_Patten: “I imagine even the ducks run a mile from him lest they get lectured on country by country reporting”

    Not lectured on it, just told over and over that he invented it.

    Before anyone else.

    No, really.

    And I did.

  8. The worrying thing is that the poor mother gave birth to a pair of these rough beasts : one became an obscure DJ, the other is an object of ridicule

  9. i was at college with his brother for 2 years. He was not very memorable , but i do remember he never mentioned his twin. So not entirely stupid.

  10. Bloke in Costa Rica

    Murphy is the economics equivalent of those nutters who used to write reams of gibberish in spidery green ink to working physicists claiming they’d disproved quantum mechanics or somesuch.

  11. Surreptitious Evil

    BiCR,

    Unfortunately not. Nobody, not even ridiculous still even damn communists, took them seriously. His Imperial Lordship of C-b-C Reporting, otoh …
