Err, who cares?

The festival defined noughties pop-punk and united America’s outcasts – but as it shuts for ever, we ask: did it fail to champion diversity?

What would be a diverse music festival? One that had the Boston Pops, Stormzy and The Ramones?

Or are we talking about the unimportant kind of diversity, the skin colour and genital arrangements of those on the stage?

  1. Diversity is the haunting fear that somehow, somewhere, white people might be enjoying themselves.

  2. What is it with the modern left and attacking completely harmless misfit teens? We saw it with Gamergate, Magic the Gathering and now skate punk. Just leave the nerdy male teens to their own personal hobbies.

And if you genuinely care about the lack of women in skate punk then, well, start a skate punk band. It’s not like power chords and basic drumbeats are hard to play.

  3. “Closed for comments” Gah, they’re discriminating against those of us who don’t wake up before the dawn chorus. Bigots!

Because they are totalitarians. Any opposition, any different view is intolerable to them and cannot be permitted to exist. For all their lies about ‘diversity’, they are the least tolerant of diversity as any people in history. At least the Jesuits weren’t too bothered about the games you played or the food you ate.

  5. Punk died on January 14, 1978. Jenn Pelly wouldn’t know that, as she was a decade away from being a glint in her daddy’s eyes on that date. The only reason these tours happened in the first place is that the first generation of punks had somehow morphed into the next generation of office workers.

Besides, the only all female punk band that was worth a shit was the Slits.
