I shall open an off licence in Chepstow. Totshill maybe

The Welsh government is proposing to set a minimum price per unit of alcohol at 50p in an attempt to combat problem drinking.

Flagons of wife beater cider at English prices a specialty.

Might even be worth looking at a ferry line from Minehead to Barry…..

So, we ICO Scrumpycoin to make it happen, yes?

This is actually serious as well, if anyone knows how to ICO an ERC 20 token say……

  1. The Welsh government is proposing to set a minimum price per unit of alcohol at 50p in an attempt to combat problem drinking.

    More accurate is

The Welsh government is proposing to set a minimum price per unit of alcohol at 50p in an attempt to stop poor people drinking.

  2. It’ll be like the smoking ban. It’s only a matter of time before it happens in England. The political elites are falling over themselves to virtue signal.

So I’d be wary of investing in this, as it’s only a short term opportunity. The long term opportunity is in smuggling and illegal stills. Big returns, but there will also be big jail time.

  3. What we need to invest in is:

    1-Aproper Brexit

2-All out war against the WOMI scum.

First Brexit. Then having cleansed ourselves of Euro-stench on to battle with our own CM scum.

Then you can drink what you like.

  4. The problem is there’s huge numbers of people living in Wales and travelling to Bristol every day. Everyone will know a bloke in the street who can pick up a pack of Stella from the Asda or Tesco on the way home for them.

It’s going to be far worse than Scotland where there’s some distance between the big population centres and the border.

  5. ‘Public Health England would be commissioned to review the impact of MUP in Scotland.’

We don’t need no stinkin’ science.

  6. Dear Mr Worstall

Home brew time, methinks. Perfectly legal and so worthwhile, considering the huge savings on current taxes.

In the early Eighties I calculated that time spent making beer using a 5 gallon plastic cask was the equivalent of earning £12 per hour after tax.

Bottling wine took the edge off the rate, though the taxes are higher. I once managed to produce five gallons of white with an awful bouquet, but registering 15% on the Richter scale. It tasted OK and after the first glass the smell was irrelevant.

If it floats one’s boat, ABV can be boosted by putting wine or beer in the freezer for a while and fishing the ice out.

  7. Chepstow is in Wales, unless they have changed it again since I’ve been gone. Or were you thinking close to Chepstow but over the border.

  8. Bloke in North Dorset

Anyone who reads Chris Snowdon will know that they won’t get any from PHE. Anyway, we are the Jocks using the hated English?

As they Wales, we expect Labour Wales’ manifesto in 2022 to include something like:

“The poor in Wales are worse off than the poor in England and we demand more from the Barnett formula.”

  9. I think Totshill in Bristol has gotten confused with Tutshill which is just across the River Wye from Cheppers. Tutshill would be an excellent place for a budget booze supermarket. In my dreams, if the local council had the power to decriminalise prostitutes sharing premises, hunting with animals, smoking and vaping in non-food outlets, and recreational drugs, then it could overtake Vegas as the iniquity centre of the cosmos.
