Investigate this, FBI!

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh faces a second allegation of sexual misconduct after another woman came forward accusing him of inappropriate sexual behaviour during his college years at Yale University.

The New Yorker magazine reported on Sunday evening that a 53-year-old woman, Deborah Ramirez, who attended university with Kavanaugh, has alleged that the judge appeared to have thrust his genitals in her face at a drunken party during their freshman year in 1983-4 academic calendar. She said she clearly remembers the judge, then a teenager, pulling up his pants after a penis was thrust in her face during a drinking game. She also accused Kavanaugh of laughing at her in the aftermath and has said the FBI should investigate the incident.

A police organisation specifically set up so as to deal with interstate crime should be investigating a flashing incident at college decades ago?

Sirsly?

There’s no shame to these people, is there?

  1. As I understand it, the FBI are responsible for conducting this type of congressional background investigation. I don’t think anyone is proposing a criminal case.

But (even assuming there’s any truth behind all of this coincidentally timely farrago) if any involvement in drunken behaviour at uni were to be a bar to holding public office, there’d be a lot of empty desks in DC.

  2. Gosh, amazed.

The BBC article briefly stumbles onto what may be the cause of these late allegations:

“The confirmation of any new justice for the Supreme Court is pivotal, as the nine-judge court gives the final word on highly contentious laws with an immense impact on US public life.”

But (even assuming there’s any truth behind all of this coincidentally timely farrago) if any involvement in drunken behaviour at uni were to be a bar to holding public office, there’d be a lot of empty desks in DC.

It would only be a bar to Republicans.

  3. Can she describe the offensive weapon? Her evidence doesn’t seem to specifically link the todger in question with Kavanaugh. They going to stage an identity parade? Put it on the Most Wanted list?

They’re all barking mad (my emphasis):

The woman at the center of the story, Deborah Ramirez, who is fifty-three, attended Yale with Kavanaugh, where she studied sociology and psychology. Later, she spent years working for an organization that supports victims of domestic violence. The New Yorker contacted Ramirez after learning of her possible involvement in an incident involving Kavanaugh. The allegation was conveyed to Democratic senators by a civil-rights lawyer. For Ramirez, the sudden attention has been unwelcome, and prompted difficult choices. She was at first hesitant to speak publicly, partly because her memories contained gaps because she had been drinking at the time of the alleged incident. In her initial conversations with The New Yorker, she was reluctant to characterize Kavanaugh’s role in the alleged incident with certainty. After six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections to say that she remembers Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party, thrust his penis in her face, and caused her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away. Ramirez is now calling for the F.B.I. to investigate Kavanaugh’s role in the incident. “I would think an F.B.I. investigation would be warranted,” she said.

Isn’t there something about lawyers not coaching their clients or is that just in UK?

  5. This is now so obviously a setup and a fix, and is getting deeply into satanic-child-abuse-ritual-style territory with the seemingly recovered memories.

  6. Both these women and their handlers need several years in jail.

Otherwise what is now the left’s SOP will become an institution.

The fact that so-called “republicans” have allowed the first liar to spew her crap shows that Trump needs to purge the party. I don’t know if that is possible under the US set up but he really should.

  7. As I understand it, the FBI are responsible for conducting this type of congressional background investigation.

There’s nothing they can do with this sort of thing except to put it in the file under the “Ladies, Batshit Insane” section in the candidate’s records.

What else are they gonna do? Break out the almost-rape kit to test for 40-year-old almost-rapes? Call for Dr Sam Beckett to leap back to 1982 and set right what once went wrong? Use the Bat-Computer?

I don’t think anyone is proposing a criminal case.

They are though. The Unhinged Left wants him crucified. The cynical Left is just calling for anything that might delay the confirmation so they can use him as a campaign prop in the mid terms and also so he’s not in place to rule on an important immigration case due later this year.

  8. Biggie –Why?

The Rs are cowardly left-infiltrated scum but the Ds are the spawn of Satan.

Time for a lot of hangings.

  9. BiND – Yarp x 1000

NB this rather tone-deaf inadvertent “tell”:

Ramirez, who was raised a devout Catholic, in Connecticut, said that she was shaken. “I wasn’t going to touch a penis until I was married,”

she said, recalling the days she drunkenly slutted around college. Blowjobs don’t count, bigots!

  10. Laughable bullshit; only someone addled with TDS would believe this.

Perhaps Trump should run on the democrat ticket next time round?

I think the Dems prefer actual rapists, rather than rich shaggers.

  11. The Republicans are being led by the Dems and the press. Democrats have absolutely no ability to delay the vote, only the Republicans do. And they are choosing to.

    Washington Post:

‘Senate Judiciary panel’s top Democrat calls for delay in Kavanaugh hearing after new allegation’

Republicans can simply say, “No.” That they don’t is very troubling to their base.

  12. I’m waiting for the “faked suicide attempt” to be deployed. Maybe the Dems are saving that one up as a last resort.

  13. This really sounds like someone saying to her

hey remember that time you told me about the drunken college party, Kavanaugh was there the same time as you, maybe it was him

And then she ran with it. It’s telling that she is now certain/has certainty as no rational person would go from the don’t she had to certainty after that much time

  14. Amazing how the Grauniad changes a “she wasn’t even sure it was him” into “she clearly remembers him…”.

You’d think they had an axe to grind or something.

Applying Ockham’s Razor, I think they are just politically motivated liars.

  15. “Republicans can simply say, “No.” That they don’t is very troubling to their base.”

They might not currently have the votes to confirm Kavanaugh, e.g. Jeff Flake. He doesn’t give a shit about the base, in part because he’s leaving.

You’re right – the Democrats leave it till they’re in office. Carlos Danger, anyone? Keith Ellison? Al Franken? David Wu? Eric Massa? That’s just in the last 8 years.
