Tax is the single most powerful peaceful instrument a government has to shape the society that it controls
Controls? A government controls a society?
Somewhere between authoritarian and totalitarian isn’t it?

The mask slips.
“Peaceful”.
Unless you don’t pay it, in which case tax will beat the living shit out of you.
I would pay good money to see a be-cardiganed Murphy handing out tax assessments to moped muggers or anarchist rioters in London
Christ on a bicycle! What an appalling little knob head.
I don’t know much, but surely the function of government is to govern not control?
And if the society doesn’t want to be reshaped, presumably the government will then dissolve it and elect another.
Sorry, not original…
Apparently, the mong’s posting from Beirut of all places. One can but hope…

Beirut, hmm meeting Hezbollah?
Anyone know an RAF/IDF/USAF/USN fast-jet or drone pilot with a spare Hellfire or Paveway?
Tip-off to GCHQ
“Controls? A government controls a society?”
govern
vb (mainly tr)
1. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) (also intr) to direct and control the actions, affairs, policies, functions, etc, of (a political unit, organization, nation, etc); rule
Collins English Dictionary
Great quote from Thomas Sowell (pbuh) which applies to Spud in the loosest sense of the term “intellectual” being applied to those working in 4th rate universities:
“Some of the biggest cases of mistaken identity are among intellectuals who have trouble remembering that they are not God.”
Obviously trying to ingratiate himself with Jezza by meeting his best buds.
Thankfully the potato has such a vile personality that he falls out with everyone he works with, meaning in the absence of vermin he can never wield any political power. Imagine how big a cunt he would be if he could wield political power.

Claiming to be Green is a massive advantage when conducting enormous amounts of foreign travel by air, in the same way that “committed anti-racists” can get away with being raving anti-Semites.
@DtP @3.30pm – precisely the phrase that popped into my head.
@PJF
If you read the dictionary and conflate ‘nation’ or ‘state’ with ‘society’ or ‘people’ then you’ll get all sorts of tiresomely predictable results which appeal only to people who look at the results of the 20th Century and say “but it’ll be different this time because we’re good people.”
Rhetorical question: who was it who said “One nation, one people, one government” as if they were all the same thing?
I’d like to ask him whether Lenin, Mao, Honecker, Ceausescu et al ruled primarily through the tax system… But I am banned many times over
Maybe in his world it was taxes that led to the disappearance of Jews from Germany in the 1930s….All I know is that Mighty Dick likes a good sweaty earner with Polly and he never quotes a VAT number on his invoices
I’d stick with idiot. It’s about all he is worth.
Perhaps Dachau inspired or otherwise left its mark on him….
@Matt
It’s just silly word games. Drinking hours, ages of consent, denial of walking on the grass – all societal control by government.
Totalitarian governments control society as totally as they can; democratic governments control with some consent of society. But control is what governments do. That’s why we need to keep control of them.

But we know which one _he_ meant, don’t we 😉
PFJ. Well, government controls all sorts of society, but has the left ever made a secret of the fact that they think that society should be far more rigidly managed by government, and to the extent that government should not be subject to control by us?
@Tommydog
That’s moving beyond my basic point that, by definition, government controls society.
As it happens, I think the left has frequently made a secret of their intent. Perhaps universally. They’re fuckers for it.
