To float an alternative explanation here

What is wrong with white women? Why do half of them so consistently vote for Republicans, even as the Republican party morphs into a monstrously ugly organization that is increasingly indistinguishable from a hate group? The most likely answer seems to be that white women vote for Republicans for the same reason that white men do: because they are racist. Trump, with his raucous rallies and his bloviating, combative style, has offered his supporters an opportunity to savor the pleasures of being cruel. It is likely that the white women who voted for him in 2016, and who will vote for him again in 2020, find this racist sadism gratifying. It is fun for them.

But there is something else at play, something more complicated, in white women’s relationship to white patriarchy. White women’s identity places them in a curious position at the intersection of two vectors of privilege and oppression: they are granted structural power by their race, but excluded from it by their sex. In a political system where racism and sexism are both so deeply ingrained, white women must choose to be loyal to either the more powerful aspect of their identity, their race, or to the less powerful, their sex. Some Republican white women might lean into racism not only for racism’s sake, but also as a means of avoiding or denying the realities of how sexist oppression makes them vulnerable.

In her book Right Wing Women, the feminist Andrea Dworkin wrote that conservative women often conform to the dominant ideologies of the men around them as part of a subconscious survival strategy, hoping that their conservatism will spare them from male hatred and violence. It doesn’t work, she says. They suffer sexist oppression anyway. But the strategy continues. “Most women cannot afford, either materially or psychologically, to recognize that whatever burnt offerings of obedience they bring to beg protection will not appease the angry little gods around them.” Participating in racism does not exempt white women from sexism, as much as they might hope that it will. It merely corrodes their souls in the process.

Would it be mansplaining to suggest that the half of white women who are above average intelligence manage to recognise the above diagnosis as complete bullshit? And thus don’t vote or those spouting it?

  1. I love these Progsplainages where they argue on the basis of the GOP as it exists in their addled brains and not the actually-existing GOP, and hence draw squiffy conclusions…

Nice lashings of “false consciousness” BS in there too.

I’d just like to ask these clowns to confirm that, in the spirit of anti-racism and anti-misogyny, they’d vote for a black Republican lady over a white Democrat man.

  2. In her book Right Wing Women, the feminist Andrea Dworkin wrote that…women often conform to the dominant ideologies of the men around them as part of a subconscious survival strategy….

There might be a grain of truth in that. I do wonder whether women aren’t biologically inclined to yield to an invader – mating being preferable to rape and/or death. After 9/11, The Guardian published an extraordinary article about women who were having sexual fantasies about Osama bin Laden…

  3. Speaking as a right wing woman, the ‘angry little gods around them’ doesn’t say ‘the patriarchy’ to me.

It says ‘the demagogues of the Left’.

  4. Like most married men, I do as I’m told by Mrs G. – know better than to answer back. When she say ‘jump’, the only question worth contemplating is ‘How high?’

  5. As ever we see the insufferable arrogance of the supreme hate-group-socialism, with 150 million murdered so far– accusing everybody else of being hateful.

Indeed their entirely bogus posture of sanctimony is the main weapon they have. Even their endless blizzard of lies would have little power without their cod piety and false claims of virtue.

You would think political scum might have enough gumption to see the obvious vulnerability of socialismo and attack. But it seems not.

Of course they are trying their favourite tactic –to provoke and hope for a violent backlash they can exploit. The scrawny scum of Antifa are the left’s tired old playbook in a nutshell. They cannot “win” because you can’t win by trying to live in a world of fantasy.

But they can–and frequently do–destroy almost everything of value and leave ruin and disaster in their wake.

The 11/11 piece above should serve to remind everyone (WW2 at least) about the price already paid to put down socialism and the need to finish it once and for all.

  6. It’s all bollocks written to justify their pre-decided conclusion.

They can’t have lost because they are unpleasant people with inept policies, many of whose candidates spend a ridiculous amount of time ridiculing the majority of voters.

    No, it must be racism.

Btw, has anybody every seen Stacy Abrams and Dianne Abbott in the same room?

  7. What did Trump ever say that was racist? When did he ever even mention LGBWFT? It’s in their minds, that’s all.

  8. These people are mentally ill. Actually deranged.

And it’s whatabouttery, but what about blacks voting 90% for black candidates? “Oh that’s different because RACIST NAZI!! I’m going to kill you!!!”

    These people are beyond reason.

  9. Bloke in North Dorset

“Btw, has anybody every seen Stacy Abrams and Dianne Abbott in the same room?”

Could they get in the same room?

  10. To summarise the article-
People who disagree with me are clearly insane.
Perhaps it is those less easily led that don’t vote the way that they’re told?

  11. It proves the old adage, never discuss religion or politics down the pub. It always ends in tears.

I’ve been waffling on that the Kavanaugh affair would see a drop in Dem support. Not true.

Just as this lady can’t understand women voting Republican, I thought the Dems displaying their evil would put ordinary people off. Her COP is a made up fantasy, my Dems are manifestly true.

Her fantasy gets published in a national newspaper. My erroneus truth nearly gets me barred for being boring.

  12. As soon as I started reading this I thought “I’ll bet the link leads to the Grauniad”. Low & behold, I was right…

  13. Translation: Why don’t you hate your husbands, fathers and brothers like we do?

Sailer’s prophecy has come true, the Republicans are now the white party, while the Democrats are the anti-white party.

I’ve been waffling on that the Kavanaugh affair would see a drop in Dem support.

They probably did motivate higher turnout of incumbent party supporters than is usual in mid-term elections. The GOP did better than their predecessors did in similar circumstances.

As any SJW will tell you though, there are no bad tactics, only bad targets. It’s Who? Whom? time, as politics in a multiculti society always are. So the Left either doesn’t care about Kavanaugh being disgustingly smeared, or actively approves of it.

  14. Perhaps the majority of white women vote republican because they’ve come to see that the Democrats have become the anti-white and therefore the anti-American party.

  15. From Steve’s link:

“Which is how Democrats could win 11m more votes than Republicans in Tuesday’s Senate contests yet Republicans still come out ahead. That matters.”

With 3 seats TBD, the Democrats have won 23 seats against 9 for the GOP.

    So, what’s the problem?

  16. I find it interesting that Dworkin’s “Right Wing Women” was published during Thatcher’s premiership, at the hight of her post-Falklands popularity. I’m not sure the Iron Lady was offering many “burnt offerings of obedience” to the “little gods” around her.

  17. Further thoughts:
These women may have had bad experiences with the men in their lives. If so they should get out more, meet nicer men, and in the process give an incentive for the bad men they are leaving to improve.
Or they may have believed lies told for the purpose of keeping them within whatever circle they hang out with, and should get out more and find out for themselves.
Or they are the ones doing the lying.
These are not of course mutually exclusive.

  18. It is a given that anyone who quotes Andrea Dworkin approvingly is a fool of the first order. Dworkin spent her life attempting to disguise her bad life choices and maladaptive behaviors via feminist theory. Feminists aren’t really noted for their introspection, but even by their standard, Dworkin stands out for having never once considered her part in the events of her life.

She married a violent anarchist and then discovered, quite to her surprise and horror, that he was, indeed, violent. And she was enough credibility problems that oft times even feminists doubted aspects of her proclaimed life experiences, including a claim of rape.

Want to know where Jessica Valenti got her shtick? Andrea Dworkin.

  19. These women may have had bad experiences with the men in their lives. If so they should get out more, meet nicer men, and in the process give an incentive for the bad men they are leaving to improve.

Well, first the woman has to be aware of the fact that she’s choosing to associate with the wrong sort of men. That is a level of self-awareness Dworkin never came close to achieving.

To put it in guy terms, if your blind date ends the evening by giving you a blowjob, you shouldn’t be surprised if, after deciding to enter into a serious relationship with that same woman, somewhere done the line she ends up being less than completely faithful to you.

  20. The question she should be asking, is why would white women vote for Democrats when the Democratic party demonstrably hates whites?

  21. It’s really up to the left to try to explain why women’s interests should differ so radically from the men in their lives. Many couples find their interests align. That seems natural to me, but what do I know being a white man.

  22. ‘even as the Republican party morphs into a monstrously ugly organization that is increasingly indistinguishable from a hate group’

No True Scotsman Fallacy. With a dash of Argumentum ad Ignorantiam.

The editors at the Guardian are still out to lunch.

  23. It seems to be a characteristic of the thicker left ideologues that if someone they don’t like has even one characteristic that they identify as being “not-left” then they must hold EVERY SINGLE non-left characteristic.
It doesn’t matter if it flies in the face of overwhelming evidence. They seem to have to create a cartoon black and white villain. They can’t cope with someone who holds some views which they oppose and some views with which they agree. 99.999999 percent agreement is not enough.
My suspicion is that some of the left arguments are so logically weak that the ideology cannot cope with its adherents even thinking about comparing them to reality so acceptance has to be all or nothing.
