One of those things we might think isn’t all that extraordinary:
The commander of the US Navy’s longest serving submarine has demoted for hiring prostitutes in the Philippines.
Captain Travis Zettel commanded the nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Bremerton.
According to an investigation by the US Naval Criminal Investigative Service the captain told a fellow sailor he had “ordered ten girls to arrive at the hotel” while they were ashore in Subic Bay.
He was later seen with about 10 “provocatively dressed females outside the front door of the hotel,” according to a witness.
An investigation was begun following a tip from a sailor to an anonymous Naval hotline.
According to the report Zettel admitted “culpability in the payment of female accompaniment” during the incident last March.
He was relieved of duty in August due to “a loss in confidence in his ability to command” and reassigned to a job with a different submarine squadron.
The decision to relieve him of duty was announced at the time but no details were given.
Ah, but this is different. An officer – the captain no less – does not do so. Quite apart from anything else he’s reducing the supply for his crew – the great lesson of all military life, the men come first.
“the great lesson of all military life, the men come first.”
What makes you think they weren’t all for him?
the RN way of doing it.

Surprised they were females.
“he’s reducing the supply for his crew”
In the Philippines? Surely not noticeably, even with ten!
10! Respect!
But Telegraph!
All they can do in the way of photos is a fucking submarine.

Ah, I rather meant the joke to work the other way.
OT – not content with his retarded plan to ban motor cars, Michael Gove is now threatening to ban stoves. If you live in a rural area, I suppose the Conservative Party’s message is: go kill yourself, or something.
Jezageddon when?
Problem with the Tory Party, isn’t it Steve. All it can offer in competition to Corbyn is a line-up of utter cvnts. Why would anyone wish to vote for them?
*badoom-tish*
“That was Tim Worstall ladies & gents and he’s here all week”
Isn’t there, even in the US Navy, an expectation that officers will behave with a certain amount of decorum and discretion? Don’t parade your tarts for all to see.
The best joke is “Travis Zettel”. Perhaps not quite as good as Hiram J. Pipesucker, but a decent effort.
According to the report Zettel admitted “culpability in the payment of female accompaniment”.
To me that charge means he failed to tip them (or something similar).
It’s the squeezed middle again.
The guy at the top, POTUS, as supreme commander of the armed forces is able allegedly to have indulged (admittedly before being in office) in golden showering and shagging porn stars, the ratings presumably can go local sightseeing with virtual impunity, but the poor guy in the middle gets it all the time.
In the history of syphilisation
From anthropoid ape down to man
It is generally held that the Navy
Will bugger whatever it can.
@BF
“It’s the squeezed middle again.”
With 10 of them, he would have been very squeezed indeed.
“the great lesson of all military life, the men come first”
But always too soon

In the ’60s, I was in Olongapo, the dump outside the US naval base at Subic Bay, and I can assure our members that the tarts won’t necessarily all be female.
Steve:
“Michael Gove is now threatening to ban stoves. If you live in a rural area…”
I live in a town, and the pollution from woodburners is becoming literally eye watering (and throat irritating). No matter which way the wind is blowing, you can no longer get fresh air or smell the flowers in your garden. This big increase in this shit is a very recent thing, and for so-called smokeless zones it should be stamped out. It’s the fucking greens ruining the environment, of course.
Irrelevant for two reasons. He’s advising the industry to sell only the most efficient (so whoopee-doo). He’ll be history soon, anyway.
@ PJF
The pollution is almost entirely caused by idiots burning damp/wet wood. It isn’t the genuine Greens (who bother to find this out), it’s Grauniad readers who think wood-burning stoves are fashionable. Sixty years ago Boy Scouts were taught to burn dry wood, not green (unless it was Ash), and get a bright smokekless flame, but Grauniad readers wouldn’t dream of being Boy Scouts and/or learning anything practical.
…it’s Grauniad readers…
Not around here it isn’t (not very gentrified). It’s mostly trogos burning any shit they can get hold of, including pallets and crap coal, to save a bit on the gas bill. Because the Guardian readers have made clean and easy energy too expensive.
Funny really, all that propaganda, charidees and tax money going toward saving the third world from its smoky, solid-fuelled death huts, and here’re the same tossers turning us into our own shit hole.

Gove declares war on scented candles and wood-burning stoves
Woodburning stoves, bonfires and household cleaning products are being targeted in a major crackdown on pollution….
Gove is utterly bonkers. He should be in Broadmoor to prevent him harming the public
@Curnudgeon “Isn’t there, even in the US Navy, an expectation that officers will behave with a certain amount of decorum and discretion? Don’t parade your tarts for all to see.”
I expect there still is. Back in the day, I was an “officer” at a NY bank, at a time when many of the fellow Vice Presidents were ex-military, and mostly ex-Vietnam. The culture of the place was that while even fairly lavish entertainment was permissible, excessive drunkenness and loose women were totally off-limits, for fear of damaging the reputation of the bank. Traders were permitted to be more jovial, even to the point of boisterousness.
“An officer – the captain no less – does not do so. Quite apart from anything else he’s reducing the supply for his crew – the great lesson of all military life, the men come first.”
This is the modern USN – the men aren’t allowed prostitutes (and haven’t for a decade at least). The skipper then thinking he can go and do the very thing that he would bring the hammer down on a subordinate for doing? No Commanding Officer is so popular that acting like that wouldn’t have a significant number of his crew looking for a way to get him proper fucked.
That’s the thing I hated about this crap when I was in – constantly being told that all these restrictions were ‘for your own good’ when they’re really to safeguard someone’s career and/or satisfy public opinion.
May has stitched Gove up like a kipper. She’s given him a job that ensures he’ll never be taken seriously again, and he’s fallen hook line and sinker for it.
She’s not as stupid as she’d have us think.
