A certain whistling noise here

‘You’re fired!’ America has already terminated Trump
Robert Reich
The Mueller report looms but the president is doomed anyway – no one who screws the people so blatantly can win re-election

Can’t say I’m entirely convinced here.

Not that I’m a great prognosticator. I only thought he might actually win a couple of hours before the count was announced. But I certainly think it’s possible that he will win in 2020. Writing him off certainly sounds rather more wishful thinking than anything else at this point.

  1. Many Trump supporters are turning against him. He won by promising the Wall and ending illegal immigration, no foreign entanglements and bringing back jobs for the white working class. Instead, there’s no wall, illegal immigration continues, talk of regime change in Venezuela, and not that many jobs have been created for the people who elected him.

He seems to have fired the advisers who helped him win, except Stephen Miller, and surrounded himself with neocon warmongers. Disappointed is an understatement.

  2. Yeah, the problem for these people is the Westminster Village effect. The concerns of people in Brooklyn and Berkeley.

The thing with Trump is that it’s like when you hire a plumber and he’s doing a good job and starts talking about how he liked Nick Griffin. And you really don’t want that conversation, don’t look forward to what else he’ll engage you about next time, but he’s a really good plumber.

From what I can tell, you really have to fuck up big time not to get re-elected. Carter (oil crisis, Iran), Johnson (Vietnam). The only one that doesn’t fit the pattern is George H Bush and I think that’s because Ross Perot split the vote. If things seem to be going OK, you get re-elected.

  3. No, hardly any jobs created. Just a couple of roadsweeper jobs in Delaware and they’re zero hour contracts. Pathetic, really.

  4. Trump may or may not get re-elected, but Reich’s TDS is at the ‘full retard’ stage so his rantings can be ignored.

@Jonathan – you say “there’s no wall, illegal immigration continues, talk of regime change in Venezuela, and not that many jobs have been created for the people who elected him”

But who are Trump voters going to pick who offers them a better stance on immigration?

  5. Yeah but look at the democrat contenders! They’re such a high class field. I mean there’s Bernie and that creepy uncle guy and then they’ve got Spartacus and that bird what slept with the governor of California. And we mustn’t forget that Red Indian Squaw, Fauxcohontas.

And their policies! “Vote for us and we’ll take you back to the stone age in less than ten years!”

    Poor Donald’s got no chance.

  6. ” But who are Trump voters going to pick who offers them a better stance on immigration?”

TBH, I thimk many will stay at home. Unless Trump gets the courage to act on the issues he campaigned with, I don’t think he can win again.

  7. I lived in the US under Obama and Trump. I’ve been back since. I’ve noticed no matter in which the ordinary people are worse off under Trump in any physical or financial terms. Lots of them have jobs now. Lots more pay less federal tax. They are not worse off. There isn’t any real thing Trump has done which adversely affects the ordinary folks. Of course he makes some people outraged, but not about anything real.

  8. Robert Reich (4ft 10) should stick to stabbing people in the canals of Venice.

President Trump will probably be reelected, because incumbents usually are. None of his likely Democratic opponents looks like a winner, so it’ll most likely be a Barack Obama 2012 situation again.

  9. Interesting that nobody’s referenced Reich’s quoting of the poster girl for the New Green Deal in his “Letter to the President” …

I don’t care at present to precinct how 2020 will pan out – although I owe it a shot since I won bigly (for me who never bets) with a wager on DJT’s nose.

The only Democrat “candidate” that seems sane is Tulsi Gabbard – who is being attacked by most of the loons tat are presently scampering about inside the Democratic Party.

It is interesting / instructive to look at the antics of “The Justice Democrats” PAC who’ve got quite a war chest in part topped up by yes…. George Soros et fils…. That Jezza has been cosying up to them tells you something?

I confess that I’d lke DJT to win again only to see the spectacle of all those quivering lower lips again.

  10. The only Democrat “candidate” that seems sane is Tulsi Gabbard

Yarp. Neocons hate her. The early favourite of the Establishment is Kamala Harris, aka Mocha Hillary.

Apparently thinking the US maybe shouldn’t constantly be fighting several wars at once is beyond the pale.

  11. Nothing marks someone as a Class A Jerkoff like suggesting everyone sit down and write a letter to Donald Trump asking him to resign. Because as anyone who has watched Trump for more than five minutes knows, he’s just the sort of weak, timid individual that would take that sort of thing to heart.

Earnest, stupid and ineffectual. That’s Robert Reich in a nutshell.

And if anything can explain the rise – and success – of Donald Trump, one need only note that Reich is a member (in good standing) of the so-called “Governing Class”.

  12. The only one that doesn’t fit the pattern is George H Bush and I think that’s because Ross Perot split the vote.

Wrong. GHB lost because he promised the base not to raise taxes (“read my lips”), then raised taxes to keep the DC establishment happy. That’s what Perot into the picture in the first place. Had Bush kept his promise Perot would never have been a factor, because Perot wouldn’t have run.

  13. Things are going very well for a lot people in the US. Stock market is up. Wages are increasing. Blue collar opportunities are greater than in ages. Offsetting this is Trump’s personal boorishness. The 2018 elections certainly suggest that many people have grown tired of it. However, if the Dems go full fruitloops he may well win again.

  14. Unwise to assume Trump stands for re-election. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, his pride may dictate he leaves voluntarily rather than being fired.

If he stands it also depends on whether there is a Republican challenger, and who the Democratic candidate is.

With respect to the latter, so far what is on offer makes Hillary look like a winner.

  15. Unwise to assume Trump stands for re-election. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, his pride may dictate he leaves voluntarily rather than being fired.

    Bwahahahahahaha…

Obvious fact: Trump never would have run in the first place if he’d been afraid of losing.

    Dimestore psychology at its best.

  16. Absolute Gladrag cockrot being part swallowed by too many on here.

1–Gladrag shite–“America ignores and makes irrelevant Pressies it will drop” etc, etc. Irrelevant? The cunts can’t shut up about him for 1 second. The fact that every left sucking piece of shite in American politics has tried to bring him down –or is still trying if they have not retired hurt–means that the American people are against him? Horseshit.

2–The Demos are the biggest crowd of evil mental cases ever. And in truth apart from an assortment of middle class cuckscum –how many illegals and south of the border migrant breeders are the Demos main base. Along with various shit cities.

3-Trump should have moved quicker on the Wall and got stuck into election fraud. But he will have to move to disenfranchise the enemies of freedom if the good guys are to win. “100 years to Citizenship and the Vote” is what I suggested for the UK . It needs to be put in place in the USA or demographics mean the scummy left will win. Apart from East/West coast shite the Majority of White Americans are sound. They have to take their country back and do whatever is needed. Economy OK/jobs up/peace breaking out in several parts of the world. Wall going ahead despite American scum fighting against it night and day. Still enough for him to win by pointing out the scum against not just him but the decent people of America.

  17. “. . . no one who screws the people so blatantly can win re-election”

Bush Jr? Obama? Nixon? FDR? Hell, there’s tons of Presidents who blatantly screwed the people – and still won re-election.

Bush Jr was, literally, Hitler (until Trump showed up) and he got a second term. Obama was, literally, a Muslim antichrist – and he got a second term.

Realistically, its the Presidents who *don’t blatantly screw the people* who don’t get that second term. Look at Bush Sr or Carter.

  18. ‘Trump should have moved quicker on the Wall’

    Perhaps.

40 years ago I went to the plant manager with a significant problem. With a clear fix.

He said, “No. We can only address about 6 issues a year with the union. It’s not that what you are saying is wrong, or that it’s not important, it’s just that we already have six other significant issues we’re pushing.”

Trump moved on other issues. Would moving on The Wall have been better? I don’t know. He’s the boss; not me.

  19. He may not have provided the Wall but I’d say he’s done enough to make it clear it wasn’t for lack of trying and it was the other side ignoring the will of the people that are the problem.
Though it is interesting the lovely lefty logic that during the shut down the ‘polls’ said most Americans didn’t care about the Wall so Trump shouldn’t try and insist on it and now Trump won’t be re-elected because he didn’t deliver the Wall that no one cares about and which they are responsible for blocking

  20. By any sane assessment that wall won’t fix any practical problems in a way significant enough to register in the data.

To that end it suits Trump not to build it and have it as a wedge issue with the Dems, raw meat for his base rather than Dems crying “told you so”.

  21. BiND – By any sane assessment that wall won’t fix any practical problems in a way significant enough to register in the data.

Dunno, walls seem to work OK for Israel, Hungary, the Chinee and many other nations.

Not by themselves, natch, but as part of a package of measures to deter invaders. Landmines would be better of course.

One thing this wall spat has revealed is that, yes, the establishment really does want open borders, and they are indeed determined to turn the USA into a third world nation while piously fellating themselves over their imaginary virtue.

    A teachable moment, that.
