They’re nutters so lock ’em up

Nearly 65% of prisoners at women’s jail ‘show signs of brain injury’

That is the correct response to this finding, isn’t it?

  1. And the proportion with brain injury in the population outside jail is what?

If we don’t know that, it’s a worthless study.

  2. I wonder about this sort of stat- how may rugby players have also suffered brain injury …most ? How may people ?
I was knocked out once by a large knee to the cranium ( during a heroic tackle natch).
For years the stats about the low clear up of rape cases was misrepresented as unusual ( still is ).The lack of patriotic fervor amongst Muslims was disgracefully mis-presented and the use by the Brexit campaign of numbers was new low in infantile number lying
Love stats, though , it may be that you can lie with them but you can also challenge that lie and then we are getting somewhere- thats how the IFS was born and now the OBR ..both of whom are (of course) , a nest of remainer liars having told ..errm the truth

I was knocked out once by a large knee to the cranium ( during a heroic tackle natch).

    So that explains the fuckwittery.

  4. Just wait. This is an entirely predictable first pass at getting to a situation where women don’t face prison at all for any crimes, because they are all poor wickle kittens who have lost their way.

When are we going to get equality in sentencing such that women and men get the same sentence for the same crime?

  5. @John Galt

“When are we going to get equality in sentencing such that women and men get the same sentence for the same crime?”

    never

  6. Q.”Before you were sentenced to this term of imprisonment, did you ever receive any blows to the head as a result of domestic violence?”
    A. (To self: “If I say, ‘yes’ and make up a story of being a victim of domestic violence violence, I may have my sentence reduced or even quashed on appeal”) Yes, I have, by that miserable brute of a man, who abused me many times during our time together.”
Result of interview is that this woman is, herself, a victim and should be released pending medical and judicial reviews over this apparent miscarriage of justice.
    Oh, please!

  7. @Newmania “the use by the Brexit campaign of numbers”

I see you’re playing the “taxi-driver conversation game”.

In the same way a taxi-driver is asked “what’s the quickest to get from (say) Marble Arch to Waterloo Station”, so your contributions on here indulge in “What’s the quickest way to steer the debate from (whatever we are talking about) to Brexit”

    e.g.

“Did you see Pogba’s goal last night?”

“yeah, a right belter, mind you he might not be allowed to stay in the country after Brexit”

    OR

    “lovely day isn’t it?”

“yes but after Brexit there won’t be any lovely days because fire and brimstone will rain down on us as a plague of Harpies eats us alive”

    That sort of thing.

You must be great fun at parties.

  8. “yes but after Brexit there won’t be any lovely days because fire and brimstone will rain down on us as a plague of Harpies eats us alive”

    But I’m already married.

  9. It’s a well known fact that men commit crimes because they are evil brutes and women commit crimes because they are forced to do so by evil brutish men.

As testified by documentary series such as

“women who are at the end of their tether after years of brutal mental and physical abuse and are driven into a corner and finally snap and have no choice but to murder their husband in self-defence and no they never told anyone about the abuse and there’s no actual evidence that there was any and she was having affairs and had taken out a massive life insurance policy on her husband and tried to make it look like an accident but how dare you not believe her story and what are you anyway, some sort of misogynist?”

  10. I am cat nip to the babes at Parties actually Andrew ( hem hem), anyway its not my fault Brexit ruins everything.

  11. Two-thirds of those injuries occurred after they got caught having committed a crime. So that wipes out the first excuse that “I’m only a criminal due to brain injury”.
Cue second excuse – “we mustn’t send women to prison because they will suffer brain injuries”.
    Response “It’s an all-women prison …”
But, but – it was built by men, the walls and floors are dangerous.

What the text in the Grauniad says is that 64% “gave answers *consistent with* a brain injury”, NOT that 64% *had* a brain injury. Typical Grauniad “bait and switch”

  12. They need to fix the test: it’s missing 35% of the women.

They won’t publish the results of the test to see if they are just plain stupid.

  13. @ Roue le Jour
Only a very few and only in the last few years.
I was tempted to say “those are the ones with brain injuries!”

  14. So that explains the fuckwittery.

I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I’m pretty sure it takes more than a single knee to a foot-thick skull to produce his level of stupid.

  15. Showing signs of brain injury means nothing more than it says. What it doesn’t say is that the 65% actually have been clinically diagnosed with a brain injury. So what do we actually take away from the study? Not much more than the suggestion that further study is necessary find out just how many in this population are actually suffering from some form of brain injury, and just how severe those injuries are.

You could just as easily say 65% of a certain population exhibit some symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. That doesn’t mean the entire population would be diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenics.

  16. Of course, what the study is really saying is “There’s a crisis afoot. Give us more money!”.

  17. I’m surprised penis has a plural.

Given that both Richard Murphy and Newmania exist, and you are aware of them, I’m surprised that you’re surprised.

  18. There’s *something that we call* “a crisis” …

    John, you’re right.

Three words I never thought I’d string together.
