This is rather fun

But most of the explanation lies with O’Rourke himself. He brought to his unlikely campaign, skills and qualities that the Democratic party at national level is gasping for.

Some of those qualities are cosmetic. Tall, at 6ft 4in, with a beaming smile, a thumping stage presence and deep chocolatey voice, O’Rourke, 46, does well in front of the camera. The point may be facile, but when the Republican opponent happens to be a former reality TV star now ensconced in the Oval Office, “Betomania” is not to be sniffed at.

He’s to do well because he’s good at running. Yet the actual question we should be interested in is how well would he rule? About which absolutely no one at all is talking.

Which is rather the problem with politics as a way of running the country, isn’t it?

Cargo cults: not just for remote cannibal tribes anymore.

Imagine thinking the reason Trump got elected was because he was good on the telly, as opposed to his popular messages aimed at a large section of the electorate establishment pols had taken for granted, neglected, or openly despised.

What’s Beto’s message?

Steve-
Exactemundo. When WILL these people realise that their selfish arrogance, ignorance and ego is just what revs the electorate up. Well, the sensible ones anyhow.
May and her mob just do not get it.
Macron ditto.
Varadkar ditto.

The problem is that this is TV era politics: someone who looks good, can make a sharp speech and produce a soundbite. We’ve got a lot more information now via Facebook and Twitter, so your angry old uncle (Trump) and a couple of shambolic tramps (Jezza and Bernie) are making waves.

Beta is not black, doesn’t even pretend to have a vagina and his attempt to be Mexican has already blown up in his face. Ergo, he has no chance of getting the Dem nomination.

John – I reckon that’s part of the appeal of the EU to MP’s. The political class has been taken over by pod people with no other marketable skills and who hate the public. They’d much rather be a permanent governing caste than face the demeaning business of elections.

BoM4 – +1

It’s similar to the Republican money men mooning over the animatronic Mitt Romney in 2012.

“He’s a tall, handsome white CEO type who looks good in a suit while mouthing standard Republican platitudes. He’s dynamite, I tell ya!”

Marie Antoinette had a better grasp of what Joe Public wanted. Fun fact: PewDiePie and WillNE have bigger audiences than any TV channel in the Western world.

So… people made fun of Ed Miliband for going on Russell Brand’s YouTube channel, but that was probably the smartest bit of campaigning bacon sarnie man ever did.

“Deep chocolatey voice”? From this clip I’d put his voice at least half an octave too high to signal any alpha man traits; it’s at wuss level. Talks rather than has bolox.

Being idle and quoting myself (hey, I have exams):

He comes across as one of those corporate types you meet who’s waited ten years longer than his peers for his first chance at management, and when it finally arrives he takes his subordinates to the pub and gives them a rousing speech without realising he’s addressing seasoned, middle-aged professionals not teenagers.

“deep chocolatey” that’s weird and, listening to that downhome sofa announcement, so wrong as to be libelous. Ed Pilkington’s voice has a quite high tone might be a relative thing. Or did Beto adopt a lower voice in all those road campaign speeches in the Texas heartlands?

‘The problem is that this is TV era politics: someone who looks good, can make a sharp speech and produce a soundbite.’

That is the wisdom from the Nixon-Kennedy debate. I generally agree.

So how can we explain Hillary? She doesn’t look good and produces screeches.

On the evidence of THIS O’Rourke is a shameless and ignorant twat and I hope his toxic hyperbolizing rebounds full in his face.

His early literary outpourings include the immortal lines:
“Wax my ass
Scrub my balls”
and a fantasy about killing children. He makes Maxine Waters look hinged.

Narcissism is a feature for Dem presidential candidates.

Republicans had fun counting how many times Obama said I/me in his speeches.

‘In a 40-minute speech in which he promised to use unilateral, executive action, the President referred to himself – “I,” “me,” and “my” – 199 times, CNS News reports. That’s once every 12 seconds.’ – ijr
