So, err, Greta, how you arriving then?

Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old founder of the school strikes for action against climate change, has said she hopes to join the Extinction Rebellion protests when she visits London next week.

Right.

Her arrival on Sunday

Super.

She had previously arranged to be in London after Easter

Great.

During her Easter holidays, she has been on a European speaking tour and has, so far, met Pope Francis and addressed the European parliament.

Tip top.

So, what method of transport you using to wander around Europe in your Easter hols then? And what are the emissions from your doing so?

Your emissions being unicorn farts of course, not damaging to the environment at all….

  1. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

  2. She’s been on a “speaking tour”…?? Why on earth would anyone want to listen to the witterings of an over-privileged, silly little girl?

  3. Remarkable resemblance to ET, there.
Nevertheless. Smack her bottom and send the unruly child home.

  4. i’m not going to school until they fix the environment, i’m going to Rome and London then back to non-school.

Why is our evil Patriachal society suppressing the opinions of brave young women like this?

  6. I suppose if she takes the trains, they’re already running, so not adding anything else, but she did a speech in front of 10,000 people and at least some of those took a taxi to a station or drove to the city, didn’t they?

If you care about the planet, why not just upload a video to YouTube with your climate statement and then you can get on with the normal life of a 16 year old of shopping at Primark, listening to BTS and getting fingered in the back of a cinema?

Haven’t you heard? Server farms are killing the environment. A single Google search emits 0.2g of CO2, the equivalent of driving a small car two metres down the road. Posting a comment on Timmy’s blog is probably a similar amount.

Never mind that by the end of a day’s heavy web surfing, my car has barely made it to the end of the road. We can’t expect journalists to be numerate.

  8. @Andrew M
Once made the calculation of the petrol equivalent of the single use plastic bags for a heavy supermarket shop. I used to average at about sixteen. It was about enough to get the car from the parking bay to the car park exit.

  9. she did a speech in front of 10,000 people

It’s the Kinderkreutzug for people who laugh at the Kinderkreutzug.

  10. Bloke in North Dorset

There long been a policy of moving/building server farms close to cheap renewable energy, Iceland being a favourite destination because it also has the added advantage of being cold as a significant amount of the energy they use is dealing with the heat generated.
