There’s a reason for this

French rap superstar Niska: ‘American rappers don’t respect our art’

It’s because you’re doing it in French. No, not a comment upon American ignorance of everything non-American. But, dammit, you’re doing it in sodding French!

  1. Status in one domain doesn’t translate to status in another. French rap is a different greasy pole to American rap.

Yeh, I once tried speaking French on a business trip to Quebec. Gave up almost immediately.

Only the Quebecois think they’re speaking French. No one else does.

Hey, only rappers think they are speaking English…

  4. Frogs look down their noses at everyone else and can’t handle it when people do it to them.

    So what else is new?

  5. Anglo Saxon popular music culture – Can’t be @rsed to go through all the household names known worldwide.

French popular music culture – Johnny Hallyday (deceased). Any more I’ve missed here?

  6. P.S.: I love Richter’s expression – bored and annoyed. Like a rapper, but without the thuggish intent.

It was only recently I understood that he was half-blind by the time of this performance.

  7. Is the core issue around shittiness not that it’s French but that it’s rap?

No, because evidently even rap fans think French rap is shit.

  8. I quite like French rap music. I think it helps that I can’t understand what they’re talking about!

  9. Me too, Mr Fisher. Started with MC Solaar & explored from there.
The French language seems to be made for the genre. French is naturally musical. English is too abrupt & as for Spanish…painful’s the best description. (Of course, Cervantes said everything worth saying in Spanish, so there’s been no real point adding to it for the last four centuries) The French black-rapper enrichment are also much more innovative that the Yank ones.
Oddly enough, Bangladesh turns out some good stuff. Heaven knows what they’re battering on about but the rhythms are superb.

Well, also because French rap is done by a bunch of pussies and sucks.

Stick with the electronica Eurofags – you’re genuinely really good at it.

  11. I googled it for you.

But when I’m in Provence, I get free croissants
Yeah, I’m the guy every French lady wants

American rap being performed by artists currently on bail awaiting murder trials.
Although not all of them. Thanks to this site I seem to have become a recent convert to Insane Clown Posse.

Yes, I know, he was Belgian. But it proves my point.
