The number of Britons with a sexual interest in children may be seven times higher than previously thought, the head of the National Crime Agency has said.
Lynne Owens said the revelation came after investigators scoured through sites for paedophiles on the dark web, finding an estimated 144,000 accounts linked to British people.
Err, yes. Very accurate indeed. So what’s actually going on here?
She is calling for £2.7bn over three years to boost the fight against serious and organised crime.
Ah, bureaucracy calling for larger budget. Surprise!

I remember the days when the Police and the State generally were against paedo scares in the media. Times change, eh?
I’d question the reliability of totting up “accounts linked to British people”. Anyone with a VPN can surely present an IP address that misrepresents their actual physical location and it seems probable that users who prefer not to be included in surveys like this are the most likely to have a VPN.
Am I entitled to a 5% commission for saving the taxpayer £2.7bn please?
If they have traced 144000 accounts* why don’t they just make the arrests? Why do they “need” 2.7 billion? Well we know they want the cash anyway but on what justification?
* 144,000-is that not the number that Calvinists believe will be all those “saved” after Judgement Day? It sounds like some cop– who used to read the Bible before his own corruption made him too ashamed–is having a laugh/taking the piss right from the off.

It’s not illegal to BE a paedophile. It is illegal to act it out. In fact paedos are mentally ill. They seem to be in one of the few mentally ill groups who must be reviled not helped. However, with the experience of the equally mentally ill transd folks to go by it is only a matter of time before paedos are totally rehabilitated and treated as a victim group. Just wait and see.

Does this mean she has a seperate figure for people in the UK who are not British?

+1 One was interviewed (anon) on BBC R4 a year or two ago. Said he knew he had a problem and was scared one day he’d give in to his urges, but there was no one he could seek help from.

I listened to an episode of This American Life a couple of years ago that was quite moving.
A young man realised that something was wrong when he noticed that his attraction to girls young didn’t change as he got older and realised he was a paedophile. Eventually he plucked up courage to talk to his mother and whilst she was taken aback she tried to help and set a meeting with a psychiatrist. When he explained his feelings to her she physically recoiled and wanted nothing to do with him.
He set up a self-help group online and the only rule is that they can’t enact their feelings. They have nowhere to go and are scared.
Its one mental illness that we definitely should support as the consequences of them not having self control are appalling.

Sounds very similar. Chap got same reaction from GP and was scared to pursue further as she de-listed him.
He mentioned how alcoholics, druggies, smokers, LGBTxyz all get help, he couldn’t get help unless he offended and was in prison.
