The inequalities of race, class, and gender that lace through fossil fuel capitalism would be challenged head-on.

To take just gender. There was more or less inequality of gender before the use of coal? Before or after that freeing of labour from the necessity for male musculature? Or perhaps race, it being the steam engine that did more than anything else to kill off slavery.

Ignorant pillock.

Sigh.

  1. His bid to become one of the Nomenklatura. Hopefully the revolution, if it happens, will eat him on the way.

  2. ‘Climate breakdown is already here, it is just unevenly distributed.’

Yeah, don’t trust your eyes! It’s really, really happening! You can’t see it because it’s just somewhere else.

‘From extreme weather events to rising seas, from collapsing biodiversity and soil erosion, the effects are already devastating many communities, livelihoods, and ecosystems, particularly those in the global south.’

So the other half of the planet has been ruined.

‘In the face of accelerating climate emergency the choice then is clear: we must rapidly and equitably transform’

If we can take time to insure it’s equitable, it ain’t really an emergency.

I’m old enough to remember when Man couldn’t control the weather.

  3. The extreme weather claims are pretty incredible when you think about it. Are these people actually unaware that hurricanes are not a new thing and have been occurring since long before industrialisation happened? Maybe they are just pretending not to know.

  4. This rising seas nonsense, if that was true would there be billions and billions being spent building sea front properties? How stupid would it be to develop say New York when in two decades most of the city will be flooded.

  5. “Are these people actually unaware that hurricanes are not a new thing and have been occurring since long before industrialisation happened? Maybe they are just pretending not to know.”

I think its a mixture – there’s a whole generation who have been brought up on this shit and they actually believe it. Thats what everyone has told them from primary school to university. Then there’s the older ones who know the truth, but are bending it for their own ideological purposes. They’re the evil ones.

  6. Incidentally, am I the only person who sees that all this woke nonsense is going to end badly? In that when people realise they’ve been lied to they are going to be epically pissed off, which may well result in violent revolutions? When there is an underlying current of stress within a population small things can set off massive events out of all proportion to the original trigger. You can lie to people for only so long before they cotton on, and when they do the consequences may be extreme, for everyone, as the once it gets going there will be no differentiation between those who were lying and those who weren’t. Everyone will be caught up in it.

  7. I still find it hard to believe Leo DiCaprio spouting off about the ‘abnormal hot weather’ he had experienced which was actually a Chinook, something common enough there’s a word for it. Tend to think it was an attempt to be woke and try to deceive that he got caught out.
Incidentally despite all the screaming over forest fires last few years there is evidence in some areas of the rate of fires decreasing since Europeans settled large chunks of North America

  8. “The means of production”

Which could be taken straight out of any Soviet era publication…

“Incidentally, am I the only person who sees that all this woke nonsense is going to end badly? In that when people realise they’ve been lied to they are going to be epically pissed off, which may well result in violent revolutions?”

No, you’re not the only one. I hope it happens sooner rather than later, because the longer this “Climate Emergency” crap goes on the greater the REAL (not imaginary) damage will be done…

  9. “Town halls would become the focus of civic and political life. New powers for taxation, planning, transport, skills, labour market design, and house building would equip authorities with the capacity to deliver local green new deals. ”

Town halls, they can’t even get our bins emptied and as for giving them powers to invent new taxes, is he a Marxist or just delusional.

  10. Problem is that the global ecological disaster is ALWAYS ten years away but we must act NOW.

  11. Actually, life in the Green New Deal will look a whole lot like Pol Pot’s Democratic Kampuchea.

  12. I think I notice a trend.
We are told something we don’t believe. Something that would have bad consequences if true.
Noticing that we don’t believe, in lieu of providing more or better evidence and rather then accept that they are wrong they then predict worse and worse consequences until they get to outright hysteria. We will soon find out what happens next.

  13. Dennis

Yeah – the ‘woke’ Corbinites and Greens lose their shit when you mention that the only contemporary country capable of delivering their agenda is North Korea – the real ‘inconvenient truth’ they would rather avoid!!!

  14. Jim,

I don’t think so, because the change is already happening, and it’s more gradual. The shock being felt by the woke over Brexit and Trump are because their machinery (nearly all of the MSM) has lost its power. They don’t control the narrative any longer, so what counts as “left” or “right” isn’t as tightly defined as they’ve been able to make it.

  15. “New powers for … skills…”
Yea gods, they really do think human beings are empty pots that anything can be poured into.
    You! You’re….. a bricklayer. You! You’re…. a brain surgeon.

  16. “The inequalities of race, class, and gender that lace through fossil fuel capitalism would be challenged head-on.”

So, he wants to penalize women because they’ve benefited more from the use of fossil fuels as a power source and the subsequent massive amount of mechanization that removed the majority of labor from ‘women’s work’?

  17. Lot’s of “reimagining” going on in the article. That’s lefty code for “magical thinking”.

  18. I still find it hard to believe Leo DiCaprio spouting off about the ‘abnormal hot weather’ he had experienced which was actually a Chinook, something common enough there’s a word for it

I experienced one in the Alps in January. Raised the temperature about 15 degrees during the day. It was dumping snow 20 miles to the north but south of the massif it was t-shirt weather, at least for Brits.

Wind changed the next day and it was back to -3 or whatever it was.

  19. Bob Ward was tweeting some nonsense about temperatures in Alaska. I asked how hot it was in Montevideo. He blocked me.

Global warming is just Grantham trying to make more money with the help of governments

  20. Many years ago an old geezer at work dismissed a popular news story with a one liner that has never failed me when analysing any moral question:”Follow the money”.

  21. “You! You’re….. a bricklayer. You! You’re…. a brain surgeon.”

Don’t remember where I heard it. Decades ago. One of the great liberations of America was for people to do what they wanted, not what their father did. If your father was a blacksmith, you didn’t have to be, you could be whatever you wanted to. As the story went, European traditions didn’t allow that.
