The truly important thing here

The New Yorker’s indefatigable Jane Mayer has written the definitive piece on the Franken affair. In it, she conclusively establishes that Franken’s main accuser, Leeann Tweeden, of the 2006 USO tour incident, was acting as a right-wing operative, a birther no less. Tweeden, Mayer documents, had participated in identical Franken skits involving fended off kisses several times before and had registered no objection.

The photo of Franken with his hands hovering over the breasts of a sleeping Tweeden was a sight gag. The joke was that everyone on the USO tour was wearing flak jackets. Again, Tweeden never objected until it was part of a well-orchestrated right-wing takedown of Franken.

Was Franken guilty of anything? He was guilty of horsing around, and Mayer tracks down three women who felt their space was violated. That’s it.

No, that’s not it. The two things truly important are that Al Franken is a Democrat. And a Progressive.

The two things truly important are that Al Franken is a Democrat. And a Progressive.

Not entirely correct. The third thing is that he’s considering running for office again. There is no reason for the article otherwise.

  2. “a right-wing operative, a birther no less”: it’s always worth remembering that the Obama-was-born-in-Kenya malarkey was started by the Clinton campaign for the Dem nomination.

I don’t suppose for a moment that he was born in Kenya. But he certainly is hiding stuff about his early years – God knows what.

I am especially amused by his “sealing” his academic record from school and university. Our undergraduate exam results were posted on notice boards for the passing citizen to see. Our Finals results were published in the newspapers. Different world, eh?

  3. Dearieme:

I’ve got no special (and especially not new) info but , putting a few things together, strongly suspect that the records of that
college he attended (Occidental?) would reveal he’d applied as
foreign-born–to qualify for available scholarship assistance.

“……it’s always worth remembering that the Obama-was-born-in-Kenya malarkey was started by the Clinton campaign ….”

It was actually started by the Sainted Barack himself in his ‘Dreams of My Father’ Didn’t come out and say it in black and white, but defintely left the impression. It suited his narrative at that stage. Later, not so much.

  5. Interesting to see that they threw him under the bus because they wanted to go after Kavanagh and others and didn’t want to be accused of being hypocrites over Franken.
Their enthusiasm to ignore due process is especially worrying, but then that’s the left for you, biggest authoritarian dictators overall

  6. ‘Not entirely correct. The third thing is that he’s considering running for office again. There is no reason for the article otherwise.’

Or there’s some new accusations due out about another Democrat and they want to start making the case for why this time it’s different

  7. Winners above.

Hussein Obama claimed Kenyan birth for 15 years, as long as it opened doors for him.

Fact is, we don’t know where he was born. Good chance he doesn’t either – he was pretty young at the time. And his mother was full of s#i+, so there is no reason to believe anything she ever said.

Kenya? Indonesia? Hawaii? Maybe. We’ll never know.

  8. I agree with Steve Sailer that it’s unlikely B. Obama’s white, upper middle class American mother decided to give birth in a Kenyan hospital circa 1961. Whatever unresolved Daddy issues drove her to sleep with dusky foreigners, women still tend to be practical about their own healthcare decisions.

On the other hand, the exact same people who tell you it’s an insane, racist conspiracy theory to question the background of a guy called “Hussein” who wrote a book about how awesome his African polygamist deadbeat dad was also told us the President of the United States is a secret KGB agent and serial rapist who is literally the head of a fascist dictatorship, so “go figure”, as they say.

  9. interesting watching Tom Watson trying to distance himself from previously supporting the VIP paedophile accusations now the guy has been found guilty.
looking back at some of Watson’s attacks on Leon Brittain in particular maybe someone should report him for anti-semitism to the new Labour complaints panel

  10. @BniC There’s a lovely takedown of “Nonce Finder General” Watson by Littlejohn in the Mailonline today (only reason to read that rag). As noted before, the Blairites are fleeing Blu Labour now Boris is there and are torn between reversing into the Lib Dem’s (Chukha, Sowbry now probably Gauke and the rest of the Conservative Remain ultras) and re-taking the Labour Party. The latter group is now split between a coup to remove Corbyn and replace him with Watson – hence all the anti Corbyn rhetoric of late – and one to replace him with someone ‘even more suitable to the project’, likely Keir Starmer. Popcorn as they say.

  11. ‘so “go figure”, as they say.’ Anyone who says it to me risks a punch on the snoot.

I quite like Steve Sailer’s notion that the Obamamum became a CIA asset.

  12. ‘Franken’s main accuser, Leeann Tweeden’

And a video of his doing it.

‘was acting as a right-wing operative’

Don’t know what that is. But it apparently strips you of your rights and humanity.

    ‘a birther no less’

    OMFG! UNTERMENSCH!

‘Tweeden, Mayer documents, had participated in identical Franken skits involving fended off kisses several times before and had registered no objection.’

So one submission obviates any future rape.

‘The photo of Franken with his hands hovering over the breasts of a sleeping Tweeden was a sight gag.’

    A tone deaf sight gag.

Comic genius involves timing. Franken has none.

  13. Have I got this right? When Donald Trump does it, it’s rape and sexual abuse; when a left-wing Democrat does it, it’s ‘Horsing Around’. Yes?

    Littlejohn:

    Says it all:

Tom Watson and “Nick” who was a nurse (oh public sector, what a surprise & good example fat slob Carl Beech set to others /sarc)
