Allied Airborne Army in 1945, taking part in tank-buster operations against retreating German forces.
A charismatic, moustached officer who cut a dash and enjoyed racing cars, Sowrey was a skilful flyer and flew more than 60 types of aircraft.
Well, I assume it’s an error…..
Isn’t that his moustache on his shirt, above the row of medal ribbons?
I would have thought lightly armed paratroopers were the last units you’d use for “tank-busting”, whatever that is.
Your photo is from much later – the moustachioed bit was during WW2, as the photo in the article shows. 🙂
60 types of aircraft during and after WWII not unusual, RAF had lots of different aircraft with new types being introduced every year.

“Isn’t that his moustache on his shirt”
Touché.
“I would have thought lightly armed paratroopers were the last units you’d use for “tank-busting””
Paratroopers often did carry man-portable anti-tank weapons actually, precisely because they often didn’t operate with armour or artillery back-up (e.g. when actually parachuting, which I suspect was less often than conventional fighting in reality). I wouldn’t call them lightly-armed, but this is probably being confused with light infantry.
He’s looking pretty good for a 40+ year old Lieutenant.
