Y’all are going to have to explain the racism here

The silence surrounding the Duchess of Sussex’s treatment by the press has become a roar. More than 70 female MPs signed a letter this week in “solidarity” with Meghan after she spoke about her treatment by sections of the media. The letter outlined attempts “to cast aspersions” on her character. It also attempted to address the nature of these attacks: “We are calling out what can only be described as outdated, colonial undertones to some of these stories,” it read.

However, this treatment can be described as only one thing: racist. Not saying so explicitly is part of a growing trend – the word “racist” is now dodged with more fervour than racial slurs themselves.

Those who marry into the royal family have long been subjected to all sorts of abuse. As both Wallis Simpson and Queen Caroline could tell us if they were still around.

Not being nasty to Meghan would be racist, no?

  1. I love the fact that they still think people are impressed by this sort of astroturfing, i.e. 70 political fanatics, by definition, signing a letter. So fucking what. They do this sort of thing every day.

    Meaningless.

  2. “See her walking down the street,
    Mrs Simpson’s sweaty feet”

My Granny used to sing that song to me when I was a kid ( she used to sing all the songs of her youth –“Pack up your Troubles, Long Way to Tipperary” etc).. I can’t remember the rest of it but I remember laughing at that verse.

Racism is the scummy left’s atom bomb. They have spent 50 years building up a head of childish emotional steam connected to the word. As a universal weapon. Anyone in range of its use is supposed to shriek and look around for a bucket to collapse into. Fuck ’em.

The fact that the female in question is actually hard to even recognise as being of black origin makes no never mind to the scum of the left.

The truth of the matter is that she is a mouthy scummy well-off Hollywood leftist who has latched on to an idiot Ginger Whinger and shoots her gob off to peddle her woke crap.

She probably needs lemongrass footpowder as well.

  3. It’s hard not agree with Rob. Who pays much attention any more to the relentless boohooing from the ubiquitous cohort of harridans and harpies? Apparently Nicky Morgan is standing down from politics because it’s all so nasty and because horrid people are horrid to her, sob.

  4. TMB,

It’s funny how people think it’s like something to be proud of. Some newsman was reporting about an MP who was in floods of tears over the abuse she was receiving.

If you can’t take being called a fat, stupid whore by your constituents, what are you going to be like when there’s a real threat to the nation?

If abuse removes some of the prissier women parachuted into parliament and we replace them with stronger, serious types, this is a very good thing.

  5. ‘Who’s come walking down the street?
    Mrs Simpson’s sweaty feet.
    She’s been married twice before
Now she’s knockin’ on Edward’s door!’

  6. It’s not really about Meg (who, I’m sure, HATES the attention). It’s a lament that the trusty old race card is maxed out as wypipo tire of this kind of shit:

Apparently, calling rightwing, red-faced, middle-aged white men “gammon” is racist, yet golliwogs, according to 63% of Britons in a survey, are not racist.

My Mum collects golliwog dolls and they’ve never said anything bad about coloured chappies to my knowledge.

  7. BoM4: If abuse removes some of the prissier women parachuted into parliament and we replace them with stronger, serious types, this is a very good thing.

Yes, but only up to a point. The difficulty is that “stronger, serious types” include the likes of Labour’s Catherine West MP who gives us this kind of “stronger”.

  8. TMB,

No, that’s prissiness. It’s not stated in such terms. They use expressions like “mansplaining”, but it’s really “I am a dainty lady, and you should not be so beastly to me”.

3rd wave feminists switch from “we are women, hear us roar”, to “women shouldn’t be treated like that” in an instant. I have no time for it.

  9. Tim- racism? That’s not mentioned in the MPs letter. it was Colonialism they were quite rightly standing firm against. Colonials should be able to marry whomever they want, say whatever they want and the female variety should not have negative press coverage.

  10. Bloke in North Dorset

Perhaps we should use how the left treated Maggie as the baseline and only worry about anything worse than that?

  11. I wonder about the use of the term racist. It has been over used and inappropriately used no doubt and I certainly dislike the endless attempts to police language by the left.
What is so depressing is that since it abandoned Liberalism a refashioned itself as a spendaholic Nationalist gang of charlatans , the Conservative / Brexit party is equally keen to outlaw language.
No reasonable person could deny that the 2016 referendum was all about immigrant bashing The entire purpose of inventing the Turkey story was to associate the EU ( mystifyingly ) with Islamic extremists and floods of Arabs scuttling our way like rats
To link this disgusting propaganda with the racial theories of the 19th century by which the Holocaust was justified may be hyperbole but so is to call Jeremy Corbyn a Communist .
Both descriptions also contain valid comment .

Now when my own MP publishes ignorant tracts in the Express blaming immigrants for your low wage and small house , couched in deniable /justifiable maybes ands ” to some extents ” , she is , of course appealing in code to the same fears , even the thicko BNP got as far as abandoning the word race and using identity and we are along way down the road now
Here I would defend the use of the word racist as a description of the wider and associative meaning of such pieces which is to engender ethnic hate for the purposes of political power
It may be a far from from the mistaken racial science of the past but words do not have only one meaning

  12. Steve,

The trouble is that they aren’t even close on the race card here. That used to work for black cleaners who were basically nice humble people, with someone literally shitting on them for giggles. Other than a few klan members, everyone thought that was awful.

Meghan is a woman who I just assumed spent a lot of time in the sun. You go down to the basque region of France and that’s what honky Front National voters look like. She ain’t Angela Davis. She’s also been a successful actress. And about the worst thing the press have done to her in terms of privacy is report things that members of her family willingly came forward and told them. They aren’t doing long lens photos into the back garden or hacking her phone. And in general, everyone was rather welcoming towards her. It’s mostly that when a bunch of privileged fucks start lecturing the little people about things like flying, while taking private jets that the press start (rightly) turning nasty.

  13. Harry is flying to Japan for the World Cup final. I suppose it’s a subtle protest against Greenness, what with the Boks wearing green.

P.S. Meghan: I don’t care that she’s black nor even that she’s a Yank. In fact to begin with I had no objection to her at all, a pretty girl who seemed to make His Nibs happy.

It’s that she’s relentlessly Hollywood, that’s the problem that’s emerged. Congratulations to those who predicted it.

  14. Newmania-
Turkey joining – do you think UK citizens would get a referendum on that? No? ok then, its fair enough for anyone to come along and say, here’s a Union that may or may not do this thing, but you won’t get a say on that, all you get is this ‘once in a lifetime’ in out thing. Its a perfectly reasonable explanation to say they were voting out of the union because they don’t expect to be given a say on things that the Union decides.

  15. @Hallowed Be

You forget that some things that could theoretically happen (the Tories abolishing all workers’ rights after we leave the EU) are practically certain to happen according to the left whereas other things that could theoretically happen (Turkey and Albania joining the EU) are evil propaganda from the right.

You just have to remember which is which.

  16. BoM4 – Oh yeah.

She seems mental and she’s a poor match for Harry, but tbf she could probably suck a golf ball through a garden hose. I’d slam her like Basil Fawlty’s car and she’d be more pregnant than the Big Book of Pauses.

Newmania – The entire purpose of inventing the Turkey story was to associate the EU ( mystifyingly ) with Islamic extremists and floods of Arabs scuttling our way like rats

You keep saying that, then running away when I point out that the EU signed an agreement with Turkey offering visa-free freedom of movement to 80 million Turks in 2016.

Strangely enough, the long-suffering peoples of Europe were never consulted on whether they wanted any more monobrowed fez-wearing kebab merchants in their neighbourhoods, particularly at a time when most EU governments are aggressively trying to cut people’s living standards to meet carbon targets.

Now when my own MP publishes ignorant tracts in the Express blaming immigrants for your low wage

So as well as being a cock, you’re a supply and demand curve denier. Good to know. x

  17. BoM4: No, that’s prissiness.

I’d say it’s rather worse than that: it’s the agressive assertion of her sex as a justification for silencing a male opponent.

Of course, if by stronger we’re to understand greater strength of character, probity and principle then by all means let’s wish for that in the next HoC.

  18. Andrew C- “You just have to remember which is which” ah yes got it. Workers rights – not allowed to be decided by your government, Workers – not allowed to be decided by your government.

  19. I find that the simplest thing is to ignore anything anyone says or writes once they use the phrase “calling out”. This has been my policy for some time now, and I do not think I have suffered for it.

  20. Of course Megans suffered racism But it’s because she’s a Yank, not black. Default Brit anti-Americanism. “Overpaid, over sexed & over here.” Heaven knows there’s enough sneering at the ex-colonials on this site by its so called educated elite.

  21. How black is she? No quadroon or octoroon black, for sure. Is she more black than Liza Warren is Red Indian? 1/1024 should be a new standard race unit, to be known as a Warren or Markle accordingly.

  22. “I’d say it’s rather worse than that: it’s the agressive assertion of her sex as a justification for silencing a male opponent.”

But the rationale behind that is that women are inherently weaker and men can bully them. Which is what sexist old men used to say.

What they want is the equivalent of being able to join in a poker game, but not lose. The old feminists understood that this was about opportunity, and that costs came with that.

There us no chance if Turkey joining the EU whilst anything recognisable as contemporary Turkey exists and many of the people who claimed it was an imminent threat knew that perfectly well . That is lying
Those people who warned that the purpose of leaving the EU for the Thatcherite / free market wing of the Conservative Party was to evade its “soft left” regulatory environment and create a “flexible economy” had solid logic and the repeated statements of such people to lean on.
A flexible economy means low standards of worker protection amongst other things .
If you want evidence then look at the way the UK fought the EU on the extension of the working time directive or the extension of equal pay to work of equal value

Perhaps Andrew you have been confused at why people talk about the “opportunities of Brexit” when in terms of exporting or trading there are virtually none ( o.1% -0.2% at best is the figure generally accepted and it cannot be much )
The real opportunity is deregulating the UK economy
To deny this is simply not to understand what is in front of your face – and for no-one to say so would have been utterly absurd , I doubt you would deny it yourself
The joke is that this Adam Smith on steroids dream has less than a snow balls chance in hell of happening here and we have already seen that the Nationalist loons have cannot stop prioritising short term politics over economic gain. Pre EU the UK was a high tax debt addicted morass of vested interest bureaucratic failure low growth and endless disputes

Were well on our way back to that
    Thanks to you

  24. It’s mostly that when a bunch of privileged fucks start lecturing the little people about things like flying, while taking private jets that the press start (rightly) turning nasty.

Which is why the Guardian have started piling in with this ‘racism’ bollocks.

Anyway, Caroline West. She needs to front Labour’s campaign, knock on every door. The public cannot get enough of some strident middle-class woman talking endlessly and self-righteously at them, and when a man is asked a question starts talking loudly again accusing him of ‘mansplaining’, a word only Guardian readers and harridan feminists use.

She’d be worth 5 points to Johnson.

  25. Anyone else get the impression that Newmania is like a drunk schizophrenic homeless bloke standing on a traffic island shouting and waving a Tesco bag at traffic?

  26. @Newmania “There us no chance if Turkey joining the EU whilst anything recognisable as contemporary Turkey exists”

I’m curious. Are you opposed to Turkey joining the EU? On cultural and political grounds?

Yet anyone else saying they’re opposed to allowing foreigners with different cultures into the UK is a wascist.

    “Thanks to you”

    I voted remain.

  27. “Pre EU the UK was a high tax debt addicted morass of vested interest bureaucratic failure low growth and endless disputes”

I think you’ll find that was pre Mrs T

  28. “There us no chance if Turkey joining the EU whilst anything recognisable as contemporary Turkey exists and many of the people who claimed it was an imminent threat knew that perfectly well . That is lying”

Weird then that the EU had started accession negotiations with a country that they had zero intention of ever granting permission to join………..

  29. Funnily enough the book I was reading on the way into work had the following line….

‘Refugees were a good deal for governments, treat them well and they were more loyal voters than the local population’

    Sometimes there’s truth in fiction

  30. “Henry Crun

Anyone else get the impression that Newmania is like a drunk schizophrenic homeless bloke standing on a traffic island shouting and waving a Tesco bag at traffic?”

No, I stopped and had a chat with Tesco bag-man one day and he seemed quite sensible in comparison.

  31. “Pre EU the UK was a high tax debt addicted morass of vested interest bureaucratic failure low growth and endless disputes”

The UK joined in 1973. In 1978 the basic rate of Income Tax in the UK was 33%, the highest rate 83%.

The EU took five years to get off its arse on tax, but in 1979 they appointed Margaret Thatcher to do something about it, and the rest is history.

  32. ‘Yes, but only up to a point. The difficulty is that “stronger, serious types” include the likes of Labour’s Catherine West MP who gives us this kind of “stronger”.’

    Indeed. “Shut up”, she explained.

  33. Rob: The EU didn’t exist until 1992. Prior to the UK being a member of the EU the top rate of income tax was 40%.

  34. How black is she? No quadroon or octoroon black, for sure. Is she more black than Liza Warren is Red Indian? 1/1024 should be a new standard race unit, to be known as a Warren or Markle accordingly.

Her mum’s pretty obviously got more than a touch of the tarbrush. In the US she’d certainly be recognised as ‘black’, on the streets of Abuja, she’d pass for white.

  35. ‘I find that the simplest thing is to ignore anything anyone says or writes once they use the phrase “calling out”. This has been my policy for some time now, and I do not think I have suffered for it.’

Ditto ‘coming forward’ and ‘speaking out’.

And awful lots of people described as ‘brave’.

  36. Apparently one of these female MPs who signed a letter criticising Markle’s critics let slip that Meghan had phoned to say thanks, and said she was in a ‘lonely place’.

Funny lonely place where you get over 70 MPs writing letters in your support and weekly articles in the press from semi-celebrity mates singing your praises.

Anyway, I do hope they get over this phase, because it’s a bit grating to hear about it all the time.

  37. Obama asking the woke not to turn on their own, I’m taking that as an early step in Michelle running for office and being able to say what would be racist if said by a whites person

  38. Racism is the original sin in the US, in the UK it’s class. As noted elsewhere, Megan basically looks Mediterranean and most Brits only realised she was ‘black’ when the US media made a big thing of it. Frankly I think most people were more shocked about how ‘chavvy’ her extended family were. But it’s the Hollywood Royalty bit that is causing the backlash, the “it’s OK to fly on a private jet because my friend Elton bought some green indulgences to offset it”. It’s the flying your own cars to South Africa for photo ops with desperately poor people and then coming back and making documentaries about how terrible your life is. It’s the too busy to take Archie to Balmoral, but able to jet off to see BFF Serena Williams play Tennis in New York. It’s the sanctimony, the hypocrisy, the arrogance and the self centred-ness we don’t like, not the colour of her skin. Right now she is the very opposite in almost every aspect of her (apparent) character to Her Maj. Shape up or ship out.
